- Hi. This video shows - step by step - removing the sheets from the damaged crankshaft - assembly - balancing .
The connecting rod did not change to a new one - it had about 5 mth.

As a motorcycle mechanic for 20 years I have rebuilt many cranks this way including the Hondas. Different technique but the same result good job👍
Thanks for watching.
Thank you making a video that does not have stupid music and droning dialogue. It just gets down to business. In the same league as newyorkshireworkshop.
Great job re-trueing the crankshaft! This video is inspiring me to find a used but decent crankshaft to try rebuilding and re-truing it. (In order to really figure this kind of stuff out you’ve got to do it, right?) Well done sir as always! 👍
Keep up the good work! Greetings from Romania👍
I second that! Greetings from Bucharest, Romania! 😁
The third ,,, IRAQ 👍
Honda's version of crankcase stuffers which is what we called 'em back in the 60's and 70's. Been rebuilding cranks for decades.
Perfect results, and what a beautiful final test rig. Thank you for sharing your efforts with the world.
Thanks for watching
You are exposing so many machine shops techniques haha!!! New subscriber here. Love the content
Thanks
Does that sheet metal take off not affect the horsepower or the quality of the engine?? I have a CR250 from 87 an needs rod remplacment so i don't know if I need to take those covers of..
Yes it will effect your bottom end power because of a lower crankcase pressure that caused by removing the cover, But your engine will run cooler at high rpm though.
Bravo Paul 👍👍👍🙂
How the heck can you damage that sheet like that?!?
how did the stuffer get torn up? it doesn't seem to do any work and is not connected to anything ....
Every part has a service limit. 1 million hours of vibration!
Parabéns excelente trabalho sou do Brasil parabéns 👍🇧🇷

No le afecta quitarle el recubrimiento ?
How much is the axial tolerance that you left on the connecting rod?
I press to the original size.
@PaulXchannel and in thousandths how much is it approx?
Approx - 0.3mm - 0.4mm
@@PaulXchannel Thank you very much my friend!! You don't know how much I appreciate that information. I'm from Chile and there isn't much information about this beautiful bike. Greetings from Chile, blessings, very good video!!
thanks I think I'll just buy a new one now
My engine had a broken part and here is how I fixed it..... I took the broken part off. Next week, how to fix a puncture... just take the tyre off.
What was the purpose of the covers?
probably an increase in crankcase pressure
To decrease crankcase volume. Less charge to the bottom end more charge to the transfer ports.
Is the crank going back into service??
works well
Good job,I like. 👍
Thanks

Ok where does one find such a clean designed truing stand?
You can also do this to four stroke cranks
Do you have a link with bike running ?
Hi, Nice video!!
could you please help me understand, when changing connecting rod kit, should we go for over size pin or same size pin? Thanks
The size of the pin is always the same
@@PaulXchannel Thanks for replying. Is it possible to re-use old pin if it is not damaged?
Yes
@@PaulXchannel Thanks again for promptly replying. Appreciate your time and patience.
Why was there extra metal on the crankshaft.
My first taught was delete it lol.
Are those plates to stop turbulence rather than to add volume as this looks like an afterthought on Honda's part which I would not think likely, easier to machine the cases smaller, what do you think?
Paul Duffy The plates “ fill “ the volume in the crank shaft that is machined out for balance purposes , so no , you can’t just make the cases smaller .
@@grantfuller2016 Oh is that's why the cranks are machined out " for balance purposes " ?
@@nathanielwinkle1955 the crank can be full round... but its a cheap ass solution from honda... and yes the cases can be smaler for more squisch
@@evaork3746 thank you
@@evaork3746 No it cant be full round. It is offset to counter balance the weight of the rod and piston. The metal on the outside is to take up volume inside the crankcase increasing your primary compression. While this may run. You are giving up top end generally from a lower primary compression. Many builders will fill the crankcase with epoxy to increase primary compression which generally increases your top end. There is so much science to this that it cant be explained in youtube comments.
Should have done a rod kit while you were at it.
Yo paul what fuction the thing you remove? Nice video👍
Thanks .
Probably because of the mixture
It is displacers for af mixture. They help to take and give a little bit more amount of mixture ... But it will works fine!
👍
Loss of performance due to the increased free volume in the crankcase.
If Honda made that covers on the crankshaft there is a reason.
I know but dont worry. It work well.
There is enough power.
@@PaulXchannel yes there should be surely enough power.
But a bit less of response at low mid range.
In layman's language what are the crankshaft covers for?
@@12main Probably due to a mixture of petrol and air.
Weight down - turn up :)
@@12main Increase the pre-compression by reducing the crankcase volume.
Awesome paul, Good Job. But Why you do Not replace every cover Kruk As ?
Thanks.
Impossible to change cover - is pressed
Oke paul complex for re Fabrication cover.
Hi Paul excellent video! What was the purpose of the 'shell' around the crank (know the stuffer usually like some sort of polymer material).
Thanks.
I think so too.
The purpose of the cans where for case volume. CR500 where the same way. it's not a very good design from Honda but change it in 2003
@@martinarellano3181 with the "cans" removed, how well does the engine run? Seems like Honda would only put them there for a reason.
@@5tr41ghtGuy with no ass at all. Very flat motors with the tins removed, but you gotta do what ya gotta do
Probably a better repair than putting a complete Chinese crank in it...Hotnoodles or whatever flavour... 😁
Man your videos are really nice!!
Thanks
GOOD JOB :)
All your videos are really good, but to run that crank with no stuffers is not good at all, the bike will loose all low end response, Honda builds that crank so it's light, and the tin can takes up the excess volume.
I know.
It's only rescue of the crankshaft.
Thanks.

Hi
Cool videos👍🏻
Did you make the crank runout tool?
Are you a automotive engineer by trade?
Cheers!

That is a nice trueing stand. Would you make another one for the right price? I really like the design.
Does anyone know the name of those surface measuring watches?

But what about the increased crank case volume?
Don't worry .
It's functional.
Tim Engel . I have done this many times with both 125 and 250’s and can definitely state the the power loss is surprisingly small . Even on a 125 only a skilled rider would notice the difference . It does make a a difference , but it’s not big .
Theoretisch hast du damit ja sogar die Kurbelwelle erleichtert oder ? Wohin dienten die Ursprünglichen "Bleche" ? Grüße
Ja .

Whats a new needle roller bearing cost over there ?
it's not about cost ,but about time , oem parts take so long to ship ,and it's hard to get only that bearing without buying whole crank
@@venox5183 Bearings are available from a multitude of vendors . This bearing will be available from a third party usually a lot cheaper .
@@steveone Probably , but not always these are the same quality
Pro-X rod. They supply silver plated flat cage bearings as well - 22.243117F. The covers would have been to reduce windage. The secondary effect would have been a reduction in crankcase volume. Removing it will probably improve thrust washer lubrication which it looked like they need. The increased windage will reduce performance and the increased crankcase volume will probably improve on-the-pipe performance. Maybe.
@@venox5183 i can buy the bearing and have it shipped in 2 days
See,,,, hammers do work ✊
Without this pieces crankcase volume is to much and pre compression is not adequate, so de bike not ride in perfect condition, 🙈
Esto es cierto pero se puede ajustar para que funcione así
Bullshit.... it will run and drive just fine...
Only OLD Villiers and the like used crankcase compression to transfer mixture. Modern engines at anything over cranking revs, and particularly on-the-pipe, use resonance. Increased crankcase volume will likely increase power, especially if other mods are done to take advantage of the extra volume.
Very cool.
The best
Amazing....
TOP
ci y avait des plaque dans le moteur était pas pour rien la il est bon a rien ton vilo trop de volume dans le bas moteur
What a cheap ass solution from honda... tin can shit... nicely done mate.... this thing will run like new... u won,t feel the diffrence.. 👍👍👍
Thank u much👍
Assembled crankshaft are kind dull and dumb ... and I think they're no more a viable solution on new engines due to their low efficiency emissions-wise
wrong just wrong
Right just right..
