The Ssi-Ruuk feel very overlapping with the Yevetha, though the Yevetha are a bit more brutal. I've always seen the NJO as a way of wrapping up a lot of loose ends of the Bantam era that the newer era didn't want to continue on, and using the Yuuzhan Vong to eliminate both the Ssi-Ruuk and the Yevetha was a really useful thing to mention.

I always wished this species would appear again in the old EU. Tyers set them up, and it feels like someone at some point down the line could have revisited them instead of using the Imperial Remnant for the 1,479th time. With the way in which they turn biologic life into mechanical life, I would have thought that the Vong would see them as a bigger focus at some point.
Like Eck teased, after their failed second attempt to conquer Bakura - where their rainbow dinosaur Jesus died - their empire was left in civil war since they had no leadership anymore plus their slave dinosaurs thought freedom would be nice.

I have really come to love the sort of magic-like technology tropes that tend to pop up in a lot of sci fi now. For a while "magitech" things like soul powered droids felt like they leaned a little too far into fantasy for my tastes, but somehow I have done a U-turn and I now adore that trope.
Something also distributed about the Sii-Ruu is that they have this weird probasicus thing in their noses (the tentacles) that allow them to smell emotions and they are addicted to other people’s suffering. It’s why they use Entrentchment so much
It would be a great idea to have a show where we follow a group of characters who explore/have adventures in the Unknown Regions. I love a good voyage in mysterious lands

Considering that the wreckage of the Yevethan fleet had "Dozens of capital ships, thousands of Thrustships and a station large enough to maintain the fleet." the amount of firepower the Vong would have needed to wipe that out(as well as another smaller fleet Jaina mentions on a second world) they had to have hit the Yevetha with much more force than they did the Imperial Remnant, especially as unlike the Remnant or New Republic, the Yevetha wouldn't have stopped, retreated or surrendered so the Vong certainly didn't get prisoners or slaves. It's a mark of how vicious the Yevetha truly were when even the later Warmaster, Nas Choka called them 'Barbaric' and that's coming from a Vong!
The genocide of the Yevetha must have been a horrifying battle, probably a smaller version the fall of Corruscant... I can't even imagine how devastating the battle would have been after the Yevetha realized they weren't going to win.
@@KMCA779 well it would have probably been worse as once the orbital defenses were destroyed the Vong didn't land any troops, they glassed the Yevethan worlds from orbit. To my knowledge the Yevetha didn't have ground to space weaponry or planetary shields so that part must have been straight out of Hell for the Yevetha ground side.

If Palpatine had won at Endor what would his long term plan have been? Once he'd gotten all the Dinosaurs technology would the Death Star be making a visit to their Homeworld and any consecrated Worlds? Or would be have used them as pawns against the Vong? Or possibly both?
If I were in charge of Disney Canon, I would have made the first year post-Endor a three-way war between the Empire, Republic and Ssi-Ruvi. Eventually the Republic and Empire have to join forces with the climatic battle being at Jakku with the defeat of the Imperium there.
Glad to see the Ssi-Ruuk covered! Another interesting aspect not mentioned here is that while their droid starfighters were incredibly enhanced due to entechment, their larger spacecraft were in many ways primitive. In The Truce at Bakura, it's described that they have acceleration netting (I don't remember the exact name) for when the ship would maneuver, because they couldn't fully negate the G-forces. I really like the contrast of their strengths and weaknesses, like the difference in quality between the fighters and capitol ships, but also imagine their ground warfare. On a non-consecrated world, I'd anticipate they'd be pretty cowardly. But on a consecrated world? Imagine the tenacity and fervor with which they would fight to hold on to that planet because of its religious significance, and less fear of death, since they'd go on to the afterlife.
Oh my goodness " the truce at bakura " is a romance book side story between Han , and Leia . Where they try , and decide if they are a permanent relation , or not . This still has all the action you would love in a Star Wars book with surprises and lots of action. One of the best books i've ever read in my younger years when this book was new.

It would be interesting to see the idea of Entrenchment in future Star Wars movies post-ST. Not only would it be something never seen before in Star Wars but it would also provide interesting discussion on the difference between someone or something living within the Force and someone or something living within a machine. There would also be discussions on how people should deal with this sort of situation. There could also be discussions based on the current developments of AI, human-replica robots, dependence on machines, and the idea of immortality within a machine.

I remember reading (well, listening to on audio) the Truce at Bakura back in the day. I remember enjoying it, and yeah, the Ssi-Ruuvi are pretty messed up.
You mentioned in a video way back that the Remnant was unable to produce its own TIE Fighters. First, how did that happen? And, did it change either after the signing of the Bastian Accords and/or the Remnant joining the Vong War on the GA side?

Palpatine basically agreed to become the vassal of the Shreeflut in exchange for samples of Ssi-Ruuvi Technology; a stupid deal if there ever was one, but it is the exact sort of deal he'd make.
Reading all these comments, it's such a good feeling seeing that I'm not the only one who adored these frickin' sweet space dinos. It's a shame they weren't used that much in the EU, and a serious missed opportunity they weren't used at all in the new Star Wars considering Truce at Bakura took place IMMEDIATELY AFTER Return of the Jedi, so the perfect spring board for sequels (side note: upon re-reading that book, it had more political maneuverings then I remembered). Oh well, at least they can live on in my own Star Wars stories... in a significantly altered, far friendlier fashion. Because who wouldn't want to be chums with gun-toting velociraptors?
Been a long time since I heard anything about the race that brought us the Shreeftut, and Admiral Ivpikis. I think they also made some use of Ssi-ruuk variant Human Replica Droids, because if you can move a consciousness into a bot body, why not? 😁 Back in the 90s and early 2000s, the Ssi-ruuk were one of my favorite other out there species.
In Star Wars Republic Commando, you have quite a few levels where you fight against the Trandoshans. The art style made the proportions of them look short and stubby. Of some of the art you showed they looked like one without the orange jumpsuits they wore. 😁

It would be interesting to see the idea of Entrenchment in future Star Wars movies post-ST. Not only would it be something never seen before in Star Wars but it would also provide interesting discussion on the difference between someone or something living within the Force and someone or something living within a machine. There would also be discussions on how people should deal with this sort of situation. There could also be discussions based on the current developments of AI, human-replica robots, dependence on machines, and the idea of immortality within a machine.
Space Dinosaurs, enough said.

Reading all these comments, it's such a good feeling seeing that I'm not the only one who adored these frickin' sweet space dinos. It's a shame they weren't used that much in the EU, and a serious missed opportunity they weren't used at all in the new Star Wars considering Truce at Bakura took place IMMEDIATELY AFTER Return of the Jedi, so the perfect spring board for sequels (side note: upon re-reading that book, it had more political maneuverings then I remembered). Oh well, at least they can live on in my own Star Wars stories... in a significantly altered, far friendlier fashion. Because who wouldn't want to be chums with gun-toting velociraptors?
Been a long time since I heard anything about the race that brought us the Shreeftut, and Admiral Ivpikis. I think they also made some use of Ssi-ruuk variant Human Replica Droids, because if you can move a consciousness into a bot body, why not? 😁 Back in the 90s and early 2000s, the Ssi-ruuk were one of my favorite other out there species.

In Star Wars Republic Commando, you have quite a few levels where you fight against the Trandoshans. The art style made the proportions of them look short and stubby. Of some of the art you showed they looked like one without the orange jumpsuits they wore. 😁

Yeah, he's all over the place with it throughout the video. But then, in fairness it is an oddball naming convention, even by Star Wars alien-language standards.
