  • Hello Kat and friends! I managed to survive the stormy night and woke up to a beautiful day on Agate Beach.
In this video I explored Tow Hill (Taaw Tldáaw - also known as Taaw Hill) on the northern coast of Haida Gwaii. An absolute must-go if/when you visit.
It's packed with history, geology, myth and legend. At the base of the cliff (eroded away by the unending force of the roaring seas and by the glaciers of the last Ice Age) you can still see what the legends are made of - literally. As the tide rises and lowers, you can see water shoot tens of metres into the air by the spout of one of the mythical creatures and the body of a giant.
Climbing the hill will give you several awe-inspiring views of North Beach and over and beyond Agate Beach as well as out toward Alaska. I loved it. Absolutely my kind of adventure.
I had plans to interview a mask carver in Old Massett who I met on the ferry, but I ran out of steam to do that and simply paid him a visit in his art studio for a chat.
I then hustled back down south to Misty Meadows to camp within the forest as the forecast predicted 100 km/h winds starting that night. If I was spooked by the winds the night before, I definitely did not want a front row seat on the beach to a full-scale storm.
As I fell asleep, I hoped nothing would of wrong as the storm hit in the middle of the night.
