I actually tried this card out on my side deck and it worked like a miracle. Using it agaisnt nekroz and older decks like monarchs and Hieratics is like eating a Muffin with chocolate milk :P its that good. Thanks Cimoooooooo. Cheers from your fans in Puerto Rico!
Im seriously surprised on how no one is bringing this up. Nekroz are still the best deck in the format and NEED to tribute to summon with the spells. Flip this, and seriously home they dont hae an mst, and you win.
Yugimation It's not as simple as that. Mirror still works since they can banish, it doesn't count as a tribute otherwise they'd get Shurit's effect by banishing which they do not. They can also send one from their extra deck since that is also not a tribute. It kinda stops them but a smart player can get around it. Particularly if you draw into it mid to late game. If you draw it first turn, yeah you might win provided they don't have Kaleidoscope in hand and provided you activate it during their Standby phase before they do anything. And if you're wondering how I know this, several of the guys at my locals sided it against me, and I figured out a way to get around it every time. Side in three Malevolent Catastrophes and you don't have to worry about any backrow in Nekroz. :)
Sorrow The Mad It does stop Nekroz's dodging Naturia Beast and Spell Canceler as Dance Princess only negates effects negating the spells, and this just stops tributing. The Zephra Pendulum also needs to tribute. I can see this card being very useful in decks that either main Spell Canceler or Naturia Beast. Only backrow hate most Nekroz run is 1-2 Denko so it hard to get around a field like that. Their best bet would be to search Brionac(to then search Valkyrus)/Valkyrus off Manju/Senju, to stall a turn and try and pull out a rank 4.
Like I said, 3 MalCat in the side are amazing against Qli, pops Scout, Skill Drain, Lose a Turn. In my opinion it's better than Denko because it gets rid of cards already active. Denko is pretty simple to run over so yeah. And I think you can chain it to Valk to not only hit their backrow/Pendulums but also stop their attack from connecting. And it gets rid of Mask of Restrict and Macro (for Ritual Beasts) as well as Steeds. I agree with you on Beast and Spell Canceller, but those hurt worse than Mask of Restrict. Like I said, I'm not even a good Nekroz player and I got around multiple copies for a few weeks in a row at locals. If it was like normal Ritual Spells and they only tributed then yes but the problem is they have other ways of getting their tributes that don't include tributing. Personally, I'd recommend Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell over this because hitting Kaleido and Mirror is basically GG for Nekroz. And if you're wondering how I got around it, I searched out Trish and Mirror with Claus and Brio, then banished both for Mirror. Wasn't my favorite play but I left most players with hardly anything, and then I could expand my advantage with Cycle and Kaleido.
That is not 100% true, although they are very limited on their summoning, mirror and colleidoscope both have a clause where you can either, SEND an extra deck monster, or BANISH a nekroz monster in grave, they are still allowed those versions of the summon using the ritual spell cards. But yes, it does mean they are very limited.
As everyone else has said, it doesn't stop ritual summons full stop, I know I tried it at the start of the "blue" format. It stops some of the minor effects and can sloiw down some play.
gigadread Yeah, it only RESTRICTS their plays (lol). At the same time, the earlier you draw into this card, the better it becomes, because if they don't have Shruit already set up in grave, it makes it awkward for them to play.
It's a very good card against Qlis in particular, or any deck that relys on tributing as a mechanic (i.e, hieratics and monarchs) RJB said when asked about Mask of Restrict that Qli players have to basically sit there and stare at it if they don't have MST. So it's the biggest "no" to Qlis you could have. It's decent against Nekroz but their ritual spells will simply use materials from other locations, and avoid tributing. It does stop their schruit tributes and their valk on field effects but little else. I'd rather side stuff like Lancea and Mistake against Nekroz.
AuraStorm Yeah, and like I've said, it's not the BEST answer for Nekroz, but I like the application it has against both Qlis and Nekroz, seeing as how Qlis are getting popular again.
I used to have two in my side deck but then I took them out. Might put them back in and take out one lancea and my vanity's fiend. BTW is Burning Abyss still a decent deck or should I look for a new one?
I have a suggestion for next week's Tech; Swords of Concealing Light. Gets around Winda, Djinn Lock, Qli's(for exciton), BA(sort of; other BA will be destroyed on summon). I like this card in Satellars. Keep Triverring it back.
I have been running this ever since blue was announced it works well against them and also against some monarchs deck and with vanity's fiend and majesty's fiend
The problem with Mask of Restrict is that it doesn't stop the Nekroz player from summoning unicore off of Kaleidoscope and it doesn't stop them from banishing with Nekroz Mirror. It is not that difficult for a Nekroz player to play around Mask of Restrict.
Mask of Restrict shuts down the Nekroz deck (since the monsters used for the ritual summon are considered "tributes" regardless of whether they're in hand or on field) and it restricts a lot of the plays the Qli deck can make since it's most powerful plays require monsters to tribute to gain their effects (helix and carrier) and other monsters must be tribute summon to use their effects (disk and stealth). The problem in the Qli match for the card is that it does nothing to stop the pendulum summons or skill drain/re-qliate
What's up Alex its Abe was nice seeing yah at regionals , keep up the good work very informative information . And I have a question , what do you think of ignkights , there's a lot of hype going around both good and bad, that key beetle lock is scary but some ppl say it's not going to be very aggressive , yes it's going to be consistent , but lacks monster effect . Hopefully this is a good discussion . Thanks , -Abe
Abe Macias Hey! Glad to meet you as well! :D I'll be honest, I only know a little about Igknights, so I don't feel like I can give you a good answer due to my ignorance of the decks' capabilities.
Especially if there are cards and or effects that it's all about tribute, it's basically game over from the first two decks I mentioned before everything else existed. :)
I'm starting to side this card because kaijus are back and sphere mode and nibiru. tributing monsters is becoming relevant in 2020 gotta have a way to secure your board.
I still think zombie world is better. It's searchable via terraforming, it's a spell so you can activate it before setting it, and even though it doesnt stop the nekroz spells, it's great against any deck that relies on a specific type, other than zombie. Zombie world does pretty much the same thing to qliphorts as mask of restrict. Zombie world is more flexible, But, i'm biased I play zombies lol
Robert Soares Qli can still use Soul Transition for some pretty annoying plays, so I would prefer Mask in this meta. Don't get me wrong Zombie World is a great card, but I prefer Mask as it covers a greater area and most deck that are affected by the grave effect of Zombie World aren't problem decks for me anyway so it feels like a waste.
Robert Soares It's a good side deck card in a deck that mains terraforming to get to a field spell. Something like U.A's or Zefras. I was considering siding it for zefras but mind crush is running rampant. Overall, Mask of Restrict is the better card, but zombie world can hurt different decks by changing their type.
This will be good in my anti-meta evilswarm deck

I actually side this in decks that i cant side/ main mistake and ive been pretty happy with it so far, glad it got a tech tuesday!
banishing for nekroz mirror and sending a monster from the extra deck with kaleidoscope don't count as tributing so nekroz can still summon
As everyone else has said, it doesn't stop ritual summons full stop, I know I tried it at the start of the "blue" format.

Cimoooooooo It just MASKS your other side decks choices
Does Mask of Restrict stop Nekroz from activating Nekroz Mirror as well?
ojasamurai6 They can still Banish from grave for Mirror, but if they can't, then yes, it will stop Mirror.
yeah!!! Mask of Restrict was one of my favorite old trap cards.
It's a very good card against Qlis in particular, or any deck that relys on tributing as a mechanic (i.e, hieratics and monarchs)

OjamaRedneck Shhhhh! Don't spoil it! I just picked up my ULTs! ;)
its a good card, but i feel there might be better options. qlis and necloths can play around mask quite easily
I have been running this ever since blue was announced it works well against them and also against some monarchs deck and with vanity's fiend and majesty's fiend
really, good but mst is in neally everything these days but i guess you could say that about lose a turn, vanity's emptiness and skill drain.

Tech Tues possibility: Chaos Hunter.
I got about 25 Mask of restrict from RP02.
I can't play this because it shuts down my srellarnova alpha :( but it's still a good card though
It literally messes up Hieratics and Monarchs because they are all about tribute summons.
James Polk Yes! :D
Especially if there are cards and or effects that it's all about tribute, it's basically game over from the first two decks I mentioned before everything else existed. :)
6 years later,still watching Cimo🤯
Not even kidding I was just thinking of this card!!!
Ayee, i saw you at Regionals, get hype
votedthatoneguy HYPE! :D
I'm starting to side this card because kaijus are back and sphere mode and nibiru. tributing monsters is becoming relevant in 2020 gotta have a way to secure your board.
Nothing can restrict the puns! Nothing! Btw, what did you play at the regional and did PBunny go?
RoninFrog87 Yes he did, and we both played Dolls.
i play Qli, it will mostly affect me in thy bad way :( but still great card !
Do Soul Release next
Not bad Cimo not bad
Drytron
This card actually sucks heaps vs nekroz
=D
Zombie world is much better
Robert Soares You actually read Zombie World? It only restricts tribute summons. Mask of Restrict prevents all tributing.
I still think zombie world is better. True, true, They are both good cards none the less

Lol what a terrible video....mask of restrict is like completely useless.
