T.rex skulls prove that theropod fights involve face biting, meaning that if one doesnt scare the other away, their jaws would be locked together and trying to overpiwer one another. T.rex is heavier, stronger and has much more powerful jaws. Quite frankly, one face biting exchange would shatter the giganotosaurus' skull. There's no realistic way for a giganotosaurus to beat a T.rex without catching it off guard. Which is again unrealistic since T.rex had the best senses of any theropod ever. It was just too much for anything short of a big sauropod, Ankylosaurus or adult triceratops.
Tyrannosaurus can’t literally shatter its skull. That’s just not how it works. Bite force isn’t the only thing that goes into that. It can heavily damage sections of the skull but it’s not like the whole thing would be broken.
@@frost7463 Given that there are triceratops frills that have chunks *missing* (and show signs of healing I might add), crushing a significantly less robust, much thinner skull wouldn't be a problem. Perhaps the entire skull wouldn't collapse, but the mandible and maxilla would absolutely be destroyed. These two lock jaws and the giganotosaurus would be *lucky* to leave with a cracked maxilla and mandible. It's like getting into a crushing contest when shaking hands with someone. If the strength gap is enough, someone could walk away with a broken hand. Here, we're talking about a pair of 40 foot monsters, one of which is a *lot* stronger than the other.
These types of "vs" videos are usually not even close to being this accurate, I gotta give you credit on that. Only flaw I can nitpick out of this is that you said T.Rex had a slower reaction speed, I see no reason for that to be the case when T.Rex had better eyesight and it's prey were similar sized herbivores that could move faster to defend themselves. But like I said that is just a nitpick. Overall this is a great video.
Dan folks gave the 10 ton giga and said it was for the larger, much more incomplete dentary as dentary scaling is unreliable and individual variation. The holotype has a femur and is much more reliable at around 8.7 tons. This is with the correct bone density of 0.97. Giga is much more slender with higher Gastralia placement. Also the rexes bite is far stronger at 14000 psi when giga is only 8000 psi, even though giga may have a different biting style the popping of blood vessels will also cause bleed while also destroying bones. T rex has a higher IQ as stated by Suzanne Herculano Houzel stated carcharodontosaurids have incredibly low iq for a theropod when a trex was smarter than baboons at the extreme high end. Also better senses. T rex biggest specimen is Bertha which is just a femur but femurs are insanely easy to measure theropod size unlike dentarys. This specimen is 12 tons but quite fragmentary but 2nd place being Ed. Cope being 11.5. t rex wins more around 85%.
INB4 anyone jumps in to criticize or downplay the 2019 study on Tyrannosaurids being twice as agile proportionally than Allosauroids and other theropods: The conclusions of Tyrannosaurs turning 2x faster than Allosaurs and other Theropods mostly stems from the actual fossilized evidence on their legs and tails and gauging ideas of muscle attachments and ligaments - the skeletals were just add-ons. This is something that was verified by a friend of mine who interviewed one of the authors of this paper: it doesn't matter if we use a 4.2-tonne Giganotosaurus skeletal or a 7-tonne Giganotosaurus skeletal with muscle attachments (Or if we use a deflated 8.4 tonne Tyrannosaurus or a 9.5 tonne Tyrannosaurus, or a 10.2 tonne Tyrannosaurus), Tyrannosaurus' actual fossilized evidence and attachment gauges makes Tyrannosaurus more agile, and by twice the amount. Therefore, a 2x difference is not a "Stretch" as some Carcharodontosaurid and Giga fanboys would like to claim. What matters for the turning speed is the length and distribution of mass. Giganotosaurus doesn't have the same muscle attachments as Tyrannosaurus. If you get Giganotosaurus to the same mass, it ends up being a bit longer and, by default, turns much less fast. The team who authored this paper went back to the fossilized evidence, and not so much the interpretation on muscle size from skeletals, and so when going back to attachments and the evidence for the size of muscles, that's the basis for the point based on the direct evidence and the calculation. In fact, having a more massive Giganotosaurus would also mean that it would be longer, and therefore turns even less quickly, making the agility difference favour Tyrannosaurus even more.
Decent analysis I personally would put 60 to 70 percent to rex but giga does put up a decent fight and could kill the rex if given the right circumstances
In a 1v1 rex takes home the trophy. Thw Giga is fast, but Rex is agile. Landing the bitw would be a 50/50, if Giga lands the first bite (which would turn to the first 4 bites) it wouldn't effect the Rex that much, their necks are to thick, the Rex can then use its strength to push the Giga away and bite its neck, killing it. If Rex lands the first bite, match ends there and then.
If the Giga could get a decent bite on it's neck and get away before T.Rex does the same Giga would stand a decent chance, after all, this thing hunted sauropods. But T.Rex's agility advantage would make that VERY difficult. Hence why I'd say T.Rex has an %70-80 chance of winning, and around %40-50 chance of winning without getting injured at all. There would be a decent chance T.Rex gets injured even if it wins. But what is most likely to happen is that T.Rex would attack first and get the first bite in anyway because there is plenty of fossil evidence of interspecies fighting for T.Rex but as far as I know there are none for Giga, if that's indeed the case this alone is a massive disadvantage for Giga because it wouldn't have as much (or any) experience fighting other theropods in it's size range.
