1 thing i have learned in my many years in the automotive trade; whatever story comes with the car, take it with a bag of salt😊. Follow the evidence and don't let the story distract you or send your diagnostic process sideways.
@@kennedysgarage3281 watched it , i would be fuming if someone( notice i didnt say mechanic) put a wrong camshaft in my car , iv got the same engine in a Q7 and its a necessity to me , some jokers out there in garages , you have done the owner a great favour ,i hope he never paid the garage it came from. I would never sell that car since it is now good as new having been through your hands .
@@qollinsqollo2293 thank you, but I don’t believe the wrong camshaft was fitted. I think the drive gear spun on its axis somehow. Most likely caused by a hydro lock situation caused by the injectors. All very interesting stuff 😂😂
Coffe cup holders in them VW/Mazda diesels should be relocated from the centre consul to the engine bay. Cos owners/mechanics are gonna spend as much time in the engine bay as the cabin. Thats my take on it. Great show Peter as usual.
All cars are getting very complex & softer due to all the plastic and complex designs. A fellow couldn’t have faith or peace of mind driving an older one of these yoke 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Good work. We see lots of issues with the fuel systems on these VAG 3.0. Usually that pump break up issue or an injector sticking open because of a carbon blow out in the cylinder.
Do we ever get the whole story. Owners think if they make the problem sound small then it will end up being a smaller faster repair, not in this case though 😂😂😂
I reckon it's came to the other garage with the chains gone, they've replaced the chains and tensioners and camshaft, still wouldn't go so they've put injectors and a high pressure pump on, and that's why it's with you now 🤔🤔🤔
I was actually talking to the other garage and they didn’t do chains in the last 4 years anyway. It came in running bad & a injector shop said the injectors were bet & to replace the pump also due to metal shavings. Hard to figure out why the cam spun & just to add it turns freely 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
I did 😂😂😂😂 It’s parked in the corner with a while but I brought it out on this occasion instead of the beer crates. I suppose anything that makes easier is handy Dave 😉
Hi Peter , this is a strange one. Is it possible that the old HP fuel pump locked up and pulled the cam timing out of time by actually twisting the camshaft or gear at the front. ?. I would have thought the short timing belt would have snapped though ?. I would also guess that the fuel tank now has metal filings in it if that Bosch CP4 pump failed . Hope you have some luck with this one , I look forward to seeing the cause of this failure , you will get to the bottom of it. Thanks Peter.
Hi Gareth, apologies for the slow response. I had fallen very behind on my comments 😬😬 I don’t actually know what caused this issue. I did speak to the other garage and we both possibly think ‘hydro lock’ is the only explanation 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ This does clear them of any accountability too on calling injectors & pump, so it might be a slightly biased answer. It is still running good anyway but has been back for diesel leak back pipes, they were all patched up before me 😬😬
Man…that’s a complicated one..and it’s a 2010…! Someone must really love that car! How do you find the engine table Peter? Looks to be a really good job….Does your apprentice (the dog) have a name?😊 A stunning looking Shepherd ❤️
That’s Marvel the dog 🐕, I can’t lay on the ground without him sitting on top of me 🤷🏼♂️😂😂😂 The owner bought it relatively recently and kinda wanted it going again. Horrible design of an engine to work on Damien. I think I’ll have to stick to the Mazdas. The engine table is handy, beats the beer crate 🙂🙂
Lads do you know if you have to drop the subframe on the 2016 Mazda 3 to replace the rear upper control arms. Ive had a look under her skirt and i cant see the upper contrl arm retaining bolt coming out other wise. I read its the same on vw Passats?
Whatever your charging to do that job. It’s not enough Peter!! There’s a lot to get right!! Hats off to you 👍
Unreal amount of work and the size of that frikkin engine!
3k but it really isn’t worth doing. There is a lot easier money out there to be made. I kinda like the challenge of getting a yoke fixed 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️

That is a fairly true statement. Isn’t it strange that owners think if I make the story/problem sound small it will be cheaper 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Kudos to the owner if this vehicle for not scrapping it
Watch part 2 to see what is actually wrong with it. Interesting stuff 🤔🤔

good work as usual. Appreciate it
Thank you sir. This was an interesting one for me anyway 👍🙏🙏
Also check does needed that injectors to be coded and does coded.
I did check & the injectors are coded correctly after being replaced. Good thinking though 😉👍👍

What a cliffhanger Peter looking forward to part 2 somehow I don’t think you have been given the full story!!
Most definitely not I reckon

Would you mind adding Alan’s channel I was trying to find it but I can’t. Btw fair play with the videos. Top work 👍
Thank you very much Sean. Its ‘Deise Diagnostics’ I’ll try copy a link and post it 😉😉

Your not being told the full story of what happened before car came to you. Problem was generated by changing of injector pump, cam rolled off timing
It is hard to identify cause & effect on this one. I have just put up part 2, see what you think 🤔
