KENWOOD TS-590S LOW OUTPUT POWER

- I recently found out that my Kenwood TS-590S only produces around 75 watts output power on all bands, CW dead key or SSB. There are many posts on the internet with others having the same issue. I'm looking for advise to fix this. Thank you, KY4XV 73
Mine is spitting out 20-25W..... If You put 1kHz sound near mic You get 100W, but it is impossible to get even 40W while shouting. No clue
I have a Kenwood TS 590S and an American AL80B amplifier as long as the amplifier is powered off the TS 590S put out 100 watts as soon as I connect to the amplifier the best I can get is 50 Watts correction as soon as I turn on the amplifier as long as the amplifier is powered down I get 50 Watts I strongly suspected it's something in the ALC try testing your radio with no amplifier connected I suspect you're going to see the 100 watts again
Mine just with a standard power meter zetagi about 40w
The meter on the radio is to slow for the peak, but hy gives 100 watt

I have seen a modification on youtube that does offer a solution. It involves disabling the ALC. Once done, the TS 590 will put out its max of 130w. The mod disables a resistor on the ALC circuitry switching it off. A potentiometer may be a better bet - what value? No idea!!

Thank you for your response. I recently got a different watt meter and this shows around 95 watts output. So I just leave it alone since I use an amplifier anyways. I've seen that video clip about disabling the ALC. I'd rather not do that since that could damage the radios finals and isn't good for the amp either. Besides, I don't know enough about it to modify anything, lol

@teuton77777 Lol!!!! I also avoid soldering wherever I can!! In the UK, the limit for a Full licence holder is only 400w. For me, as an Intermediate licence holder, I can only use 50w so my new Kenwood will be fine. Good luck my friend. Steve, 2E0EES.
@@ratsstuff1952 wow, only 50w? Your government is very stingy, lol. I talk often with my friend in Germany (I'm original from Germany) and they can have up to 700w (full license). 50 watts make no sense, most HF radios have at least 100w. And how would anyone even know if you're really only using 50w. Here in the US we're really spoiled when it comes to Ham radio. Even with the intermediate license we can run up to 1500 watts PEP on pretty much all ham bands (with some minor restrictions). Maybe this government here knows that Americans wouldn't obey stupid restrictions anyways, lol. So they figured 1500watts is ok, since any amplifier that can push more would be too expensive in the first place. I'm a new ham operator, I'm only licensed since the beginning of this year. So still a lot more to learn. Well Steve, maybe we can catch each other on the air sometime. I'm mostly on 20 meters, during the evenings and at night. Till then, 73 KY4XV Jorg
@teuton77777 Fortunately no one checks power outputs anymore over here. That said, I'm pretty honest unless it's a country I have not worked and I need a few extra watts to get it. Intermediates will be allowed to use 100w next year and Full licence holders will be able to emit 1kw so it's getting better!
