  • Hi guys! It's been a while since I've posted a new piece!! :) This is Uptown Hoedown, my final project for my composition class last semester. The piece overall is pretty typical of what I like to compose, which includes fun and lighthearted pieces. The assignment behind composing this piece was to incorporate different techniques we were learning throughout the semester, including metric modulation, the balance between consonance and dissonance, and some extended techniques.
The claps and percussive noises you hear throughout are acting as foot stomps that the players can do while playing! Cheesy? Maybe a little, but I personally think it adds a nice flare to this already driving piece. Also, you'll hear at the end that the players yell "Yeehaw!" before finishing the piece off with a bang, which again I know is totally extra, but why not?? I can't necessarily say I did a good job at seemlessly editing it into the MIDI file... but oh well. A generous thank you to some of my friends and family for sending me some yeehaws to include. :)
Hope you guys enjoy! Let me know what you think. Also, this will be both on streaming platforms and my sheet music website within the next couple days, so be on the lookout!
Uptown Hoedown composed for flute, clarinet, violin, and cello.

In TwoSetViolin you mentioned that with a Countryside Rigadoon you tried to catch the spirit of rural wedding - and yes. indeed you did!
Well, with this piece you caught the frantic tilling and sowing of seeds over the short springtime, the growth over the summer, and satisfied labor demanding harvesting process (i could hear the scythe's mowing down) and a happy post-harvest party when storages are full. Thank you!

Loved this, what do you use to compose? I've always wanted to move on from messing around on Garageband lmao xD
