I recently started working at a funeral home. We have a Muslim coming in tomorrow and I was told once the family gets here no one is allowed in the prep room except for family. So I wanted to learn exactly what happens so I know what to do or not to do or what to stay or not to say.
In America in the early days, burials were handled not much differently. Family members took the body, prepared it, washed it, dressed it and placed it in a homemade coffin. Funerals were often held the next day as there was no preservation. Families and neighbors dug the grave, lowered the body and filled the grave. Simple, personal and caring.
This is done so very respectfully as it should be, and it was lovely the lecturer said that ritual for men minimum of 45 minutes & woman longer, as we tend to take much as in life when getting right. I helped wash my younger sister when she died and the nurses were very gentle with her & we took our time, but I am not sure we took even 20 minutes they were quick & very efficient.
my husband and i agreed that we do each other. a woman may do this for her husband and a husband may do this for his wife. Note: who ever dies first I mean.
I would like to say when he said about removing tubes etc as nurses we are not allowed to remove anything from the body when they die incase there is a post mortem that applies to all religions and races the coroners like to examine the equipment in situ so they can rule out malfunction such as a blocked tube etc
But this is only performed once the hospital is done with their job and gives us back the body for funeral. No one else gets incontact with the body after this stage. The next step is burial.
This puts my grandparents’ burial in context; they were buried within hours of death, interred in Abuja. My grandmother requested that we have a good meal upon her death, but I wasn’t hungry. 😢 Though we weren’t the same religion, our grandparents loved us passionately. I feel at peace knowing their bodies were taken well care of.
Alhamdulillah jzk khair so much for sharing this valuable knowledge may Allah ta aala reward you all immensely with the very best of everything in this world and in the hereafter Aameen
Coleb Arinaitwe brother islam is religion of all prophets starting from adam and likes of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus PBUT etc and Mohammad PBUH was last messenger. To become a muslim you need to rectice by tongue and accept by heart the Shahadah. The shahadah is "I bear witness that there is no god except God(one true formless, traitless all powerful God who is beyond reach mind and imagination) and that Mohammad is his servant and messenger." While recite the shahadah you need two witnesses to know you accept islam but if you find no muslim or fear for your life then you neither need to declare orally nor you need two witnesess just acceptance of heart is enough for you to be a muslim in such a case. there are five pillars of islam: 1. Sahadah 2. prayer 5 times a day 3. fasting in the month of Ramadan. 4. Zakaat/charity giving atleast 2.5% of your income in charity. 5.Haj/pilgrimage to Mecca if you have health and resources than once in life time it is obligatory..but if you don't have money or health is not permitting then you are excused.. apart from these there is daily duties of muslim which you will find in islamic books..hope it helps.
Rigor mortis is not a permanent state, and you would not break the arms or other joints by gently moving the joints to ease them. I work as a Funeral Director and have also trained as an Embalmer, I speak from advanced experience within the funeral trade.
Assalamualaikum brother. So, if I ever died it would be up to my masjid to prepare my body? I am a convert and I would like to know so my family could know, they r not Muslim
Thank you for the information. Some people don't know what produces to fellow. What forms to be filled. I like to watch and learn about things are done. God bless you for having such love in what you do.
That is I have seen in different countries and cultures around the world. In every culture, people perform for their dead the same way and give their deceased ones great respect for the proper funerals. It doesn't matter they are being buried or cremated.
If the dead is a politician, then washing his body only is not enough; has to also brush his teeth and tongue cause every politician told lies throughout his life.
Yes the dead body is more sensitive then the living so be gentle My grandma is a Somali Nomad she always buys her two white sheets but every time someone else dies she gives because it difficult for nomads to go to a far away city and by the white sheets she always keeps it because she knows she can die anytime for all her lie she always keeps two white sheets for her body but she’sa great great grandma to me and she’s still alive Manshallah
thanks so much to the publisher for posting an very informative insight of the preparation process. This may be a very dumb question, does this same exact process apply to Muslimahs? and is it preformed by as well?
No, you didn’t ask a stupid question rather the opposite! Overall the process of washing the deceased Muslim male and female are similar, but the washing process just takes longer as the brother stated. However, as the brother mentioned in the workshop that the Muslimah have 5 pieces of cloth whereas the men have only 3: 1) 2 sheets: to shroud like with the men that was wrapped over first from left then right as shown in the video. 2) 1 Sheet as a dress with a hole placed for the neck-like with the men (Khamees for men). 3) 1 Sheet as a Hijab: to cover the hair, this is placed after the dress but before the two sheets to shroud the whole body. 4) 1 Sheet used as a petticoat/Slip: that the deceased Muslimah is already wearing before before the dress and Hijab are placed on her, to then be shrouded. Aside from the extra number of sheets, the deceased Muslimah’s hair is also plaited into three sections after it’s thoroughly cleaned. I hope that answers your queries. I am surprised that the coroner in the UK has "bankers hours". In the states the coroner is available in most places 24 hours, 7 days a week, all year long.

In a summary of a saying of the Prophet Muhammad: On the Day of Judgement people will be raised up naked = Urat, bare-footed = Hufat, and uncircumcised = ghurrun. And the first person to have clothes on will be the Prophet Abraham (Ibraheem). A'isha may Allah be pleased with her, the Prophet's wife, said: People looking at one another O Prophet of Allah?! The Prophet said: A'ishah - the whole matter is more grave (serious) than that.

Is your nail polish matching the lipstick?
Very informative for me as a Medical student. With specific details and well explained Alhamdulillah.
my husband and i agreed that we do each other. a woman may do this for her husband and a husband may do this for his wife.
Note: who ever dies first I mean.
i dont think you can do it by yourself. It will need atleast 2 people to lift body and whatnot
MadeForAkhira well, of course.
I'm saying for cleansing side
And just how are you going to do each other sister ? only one of you can
Harrey potter so what! do I look bovered, it's permissible in our eyes. got it!

Very informative. I wonder how many US morgues and morticians are able to train in this respectful preparation.
Robb Hodges they can only be Muslims, since they have to utter some Quranic verses too
Just realised that's my uncle by the door with the black and white scarf
ALHUMDULLAH I'M MUSLIM ☪️❤✨❤🕋❤💖
Thank you for posting very informative !
I would like to say when he said about removing tubes etc as nurses we are not allowed to remove anything from the body when they die incase there is a post mortem that applies to all religions and races the coroners like to examine the equipment in situ so they can rule out malfunction such as a blocked tube etc
as i sid in my post some mis information
Molly Shepherd
But this is only performed once the hospital is done with their job and gives us back the body for funeral. No one else gets incontact with the body after this stage. The next step is burial.
This puts my grandparents’ burial in context; they were buried within hours of death, interred in Abuja. My grandmother requested that we have a good meal upon her death, but I wasn’t hungry. 😢
Though we weren’t the same religion, our grandparents loved us passionately. I feel at peace knowing their bodies were taken well care of.
Alhamdulillah jzk khair so much for sharing this valuable knowledge may Allah ta aala reward you all immensely with the very best of everything in this world and in the hereafter Aameen
JazakAllahu khairun for this very informative

Coleb Arinaitwe
brother islam is religion of all prophets starting from adam and likes of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus PBUT etc and Mohammad PBUH was last messenger. To become a muslim you need to rectice by tongue and accept by heart the Shahadah. The shahadah is "I bear witness that there is no god except God(one true formless, traitless all powerful God who is beyond reach mind and imagination) and that Mohammad is his servant and messenger."
While recite the shahadah you need two witnesses to know you accept islam but if you find no muslim or fear for your life then you neither need to declare orally nor you need two witnesess just acceptance of heart is enough for you to be a muslim in such a case.
there are five pillars of islam:
1. Sahadah
2. prayer 5 times a day
3. fasting in the month of Ramadan.
May Allah guide you brother follow the procedure mentioned above by the brother..love
Isalamalaikum very good demonstration Bro Imam
Rigor mortis is not a permanent state, and you would not break the arms or other joints by gently moving the joints to ease them. I work as a Funeral Director and have also trained as an Embalmer, I speak from advanced experience within the funeral trade.
Assalamualaikum brother. So, if I ever died it would be up to my masjid to prepare my body? I am a convert and I would like to know so my family could know, they r not Muslim

Thank you for posting very informative.
That is I have seen in different countries and cultures around the world. In every culture, people perform for their dead the same way and give their deceased ones great respect for the proper funerals. It doesn't matter they are being buried or cremated.
Very detailed and formative 🙏🏽
ma sha allah this was Informative, alhamdulillah may Allah reward him for making this video... Ameen.
If the dead is a politician, then washing his body only is not enough; has to also brush his teeth and tongue cause every politician told lies throughout his life.

Yes the dead body is more sensitive then the living so be gentle
My grandma is a Somali Nomad she always buys her two white sheets but every time someone else dies she gives because it difficult for nomads to go to a far away city and by the white sheets she always keeps it because she knows she can die anytime for all her lie she always keeps two white sheets for her body but she’sa great great grandma to me and she’s still alive Manshallah
No ... just be sensitive towards both . Many hospitals do not maintain the dignity , probably etc ..of the alive while unconscious or sick
thanks so much to the publisher for posting an very informative insight of the preparation process. This may be a very dumb question, does this same exact process apply to Muslimahs? and is it preformed by as well?
same process apply to all muslims
incognitondc of
No, you didn’t ask a stupid question rather the opposite!
Overall the process of washing the deceased Muslim male and female are similar, but the washing process just takes longer as the brother stated.
However, as the brother mentioned in the workshop that the Muslimah have 5 pieces of cloth whereas the men have only 3:
1) 2 sheets: to shroud like with the men that was wrapped over first from left then right as shown in the video.

It's okay. It's unknown.
Sonja Teal it's ok, if you didn't harm yourself or others, but a lot if people in the world made huge mistakes and have to pay for it and there us a lot of people suffered and still suffering. If u think the one who created this huge universe is not just you really have to think about it.
Thank you for this. I really can't convey how important this is thankyou thankyou thankyou.

I am surprised that the coroner in the UK has "bankers hours". In the states the coroner is available in most places 24 hours, 7 days a week, all year long.

Heba Alnajar Will they not need clothing when Allah wakes them up on judgment day or will these be provided.
john Smith I've no idea for that
In a summary of a saying of the Prophet Muhammad: On the Day of Judgement people will be raised up naked = Urat, bare-footed = Hufat, and uncircumcised = ghurrun.
Why?
Alhamdulillah
