I really enjoy watching your hydrangea videos. I just need a tip if possible. My hydrangea started off blooming so beautifully but they're already turning brown. What can I do?
Writing from Savannah Georgia
So glad you are enjoying the hydrangea videos . Thank you . It sounds like your hydrangea is getting either too much sun or too little water . Or a combination of the two . Is thet any way to provide it with some additional shade in the afternoon so the blooms do not burn up ? If there is room nearby for a plant that may cast some afternoon shade on it that would be good if the problem is too much sun . You can also wait until fall and then dig up the hydrangea and move it to a place in your garden that gets morning sun and afternoon shade . Most hydrangeas like 6-8 hours of morning sun and then some afternoon shade . Limelight hydrangeas can tolerate a bit more sun though .
Hopefully the hydrangea is turning brown due to a lack of water. That would be an easy fix to just water more often . Good luck 🌸🤗
Kelly, I made a major opps and didn't properly winterize my endless summer hydrangias. They are still green at the base. I dug them up and put them in pots. Any recommendations to bring them back?
I’m find that my hydrangeas are happier in the ground than when I put them in pots . Any chance you have a spot in the garden for them . If not , no worries they can also flourish in pots as long as the pot is large enough for their roots to stretch out . I didn’t winterize a little of mine either and they looked pretty bad until a few weeks ago and then they perked up . They are pretty resilient. Make sure they have enough water but are not soggy . I do the knuckle test but putting my finger in the ground up to my second knuckle . If the soil feels wet I leave my hydrangea alone. If the soils feels dry , I water it . You can give it a handful of rose tone if you think it needs fertilizer. I only fertilize every few years since I don’t want to over fertilize.
Good luck getting your hydrangea happy again 🌸
Hello and thankyou for all of your lovely videos:]
I have a question for you if you could please answer.
I recently just had to root prune a severely root bound big leaf Lets Dance Sky View hydrangea. The plant was doing great with abundant blooms(root bound sunce i received it thought i roughed the roots up enough from the get go and i didnt)then I suddentlyi started noticing all the blooms were dying and the tips of the plant were dying, I had this hydrangea in a pot and I pulled it out I realized how hard the root ball was and still in the exact shape as the container it came in months later..
This is a younger hydrangea I just got it in a gallon size, decent sized, still young though. I cut into the roots with my scissors.
I did this about 2 weeks ago.
The hydrangea looks stressed out from that but seems alive.. now in your opinion will this plant recover in time for blooms next year and what signs should I be looking for how should I be treating this poor plant? I took it out of the pot and put it in the ground just like you did, I also noticed it wasn't taking the water from the pot really... when inspecting the roots they're not squishy or anything just hard as a rock..
Any and all suggestions and answers are well appreciated!
Thankyou very much!😊
Sorry for being long winded there is alot to say haha 😄
Have a great one!

What causes your hydrangeas to have yellowing leaves
Great question , thanks for sending it in . There are many different reasons as to why a hydrangeas leaves turn yellow . These include …
Too much water
Too little water
Nutrient deficiency
Too much sun
Pests
Here is a detailed article I found that may be helpful

Brilliant video!

Hi Kelly. Mary from Rancho Cucamonga California. We've been having very hot weather (100 degrees) and my potted hydrangeas were drooping really bad so I watered them even though they had been watered a couple days prior. I think they're over watered now. Can I save them?
