Always remember: Its not that the Atredes are such "Good guys", but when your in the same Universe as the Harkkonnen? Well everybody else seems good.
Sounds like someone wants their heart plug pulled
@@killtyrant I HATED that movie. The new one is so much better. That heart plug thing though....that was sadistic.
@@jb111082
Yeah I know theres no mention about the plug beyond the movie and dune2000. I still like the idea haha
@@killtyrant I agree that it's a good idea, and it even sounds like something that Vladimir Harkonen would do.
@@jb111082
I do admit tho, the new movie was alot better than I thought it was going to be. Very pleasantly surprised
"These are the good guys" *nervous God Emperor of Dune noises*
For real! Leto II was brutal!
@@jb111082 Well he had to be to prepare people for the return of thinking machines.
@@Matruchus Yes. I never said that it wasn't without an overarching goal, I simply said he was brutal. And he was.
excellent touch with the blue eyes on the potato in the intro.
I was just about to say that lol
The hehehehe lizard also has blue eyes but I bounced it in too fast for it to be easily visible.
blue eyes white potato
He is a mentat, after all.
@@Morbis Jesus.. it startled me
Played the originals as a teenager. Over and over. The special tanks and rocket artillery where so much fun.
I recently played the Sega Genesis version, and it's actually pretty good. Better graphics and more intuitive controls.
I really liked the art style, it's the reason I bought the original dune 2 game. The gameplay was really awkward, but had interesting, ahead of it's time features, like battle music and macro units.
"Game is out and you can get it now"
Truly a vicious betrayal and deception
They really should’ve included the “Early Access” part to the beginning of that statement. Personally I bought it and plan on playing it when I get home but for a lot of people thinking this is a final product, yea they should’ve made them aware that it’s still Early Access lol
@@austinharp7264 Yea. If its early acces its not "out". Very deceptive.
@@MasterGhostf it is out but its not the final game
@@jacksaunders3549 Literally no one knows whether it is the 'final' game though, as often early access games barely change over time. Not always, but often getting in early access games too early, will set you up for disappointment.
He literally says "it is out in early access and you can play it now"
Love to see the Northgard RTS design continuing to evolve and grow. That game was such a breath of fresh air, and it lends itself well to a fun push and pull style that is much less sweepy than classic RTS' tend to be.
Northgard itself felt like it got inspiration from the settlers series
@@intuii felt like a mix of AOE and Settlers to me. This has more 4x in its blood. The closest I can think of is Sins of a Solar Empire.
My experience is that Northgard is more "sweepy" than many other RTS in multiplayer. There is a steady bulidup over the course of a game until a player commits to forming an army and pushing into enemy territory and that usually results in that player being wiped due to not being prepared, or a stalemate until one side is weak and gets wiped out. Coming back from losses seems to be unlikely even with very good players.
tell me you're new to RTS games without telling me you're new to RTS games
@@GlobstersMessenger classic rts games are super sweepy, with no back and forth at all. Just rushes and then a win. That isn’t really possible in Northgard. Plus there are multiple victory paths, so playing in the classic Northgard way, you can’t just easily pile on bodies or burst through with a rush easily, like you can in more classic Westwood, Blizzard, and Cavedog style games.
PotatoMcWhiskey: "How do I make friends?"
Also Potato: "Trade offer? No, absolutely not."
It feels like someone looked at the northgard map mechanics and then looked at the Dune boardgame and was like... wait... that could be awesome
Seems like they used the exact same artwork in some places as well.
well the people who made Northgard made this game so yeah
Yeah I do hope they will go a bit further then both northgard and the dune boardgame. They are both fun but I feel like they are over too quick for my civ/endless/stellaris loving brain. Hopefully it will be a bit more"grand" (or be the first to implement a good marathon game-setting mode) so I can have some hours long sessions instead of winning around the 2-3 hour mark.
@@ruud9761 not every game needs to be a copy and paste of other games.
@@ascension0344 What?
I'm old. I'm "emperor: the battle for dune" kind of old. This game is pure nostalgia for me. And even in early access state, I got what I needed. I hope they add more features amd game modes in the future. many thanks to devs from here.
Same here, and that was the first time I moded my computer cuz it couldn’t handle the graphics
Emperor: Battle for Dune Old? :D heh.. sega dune II battle for arrakis !
Me too, bought it, but then returned it. Felt just like legends, which I was not particular fond of.
@@pand2aren
high five for the ancient crew eh bud.
Woo!
excited to see this, art style vaguely reminds me of humankind tbh
would love to see you play old world
Considering both developers of Humankind and Dune are French, and Humankind's being the most successful strategy developers in France makes them an obvious influence.
@@Rizoof1 Lol, how are they 'the most successful strategy (game) developer' though? I like Endless Legend and it's their best game to date (also according to Steam reviews and sales numbers which are around 1.2 million copies sold), but it's a very flawed game design. And Humankind had an insane drop off of players after it's initial high in august 2021. It did not sell amazing numbers, regardless of the whole 'best selling game of august 2021 claim' you see floating on the internet. (Which was literally just a reference to a single day sales number of copies sold in the US in august 2021 in which it ranked 4th place, which basically means nothing). The game did not sell more than around 300.000-400.000 copies. World-wide. And one can make a very fair argument that the game isn't that great to begin with, whilst also pushing woke nonsense. I don't even like Civilization VI that much, but to put things into perspective that game sold like 7+ million copies. It's also funny how you think nationality makes something an obvious influence. It's very obvious Dune Spice Wars is just a reskinned version of Northgard, the previous game by the developer of Dune Spice Wars. It pretty much plays the same.
@@PHeMoX It is the most successful strategy developer in France, even after all of that. That's how much France can offer in reality.
@@Rizoof1 France? That must be why it was filled with socialist nonsense. Humankind, gtfo.
This game looks interesting.
I would love to see more in the future.
I don't quite sit through a 50+ minute of youtube video for a game play video, but this has been well worth it. As the gameplay mechanics is quite complicated and so many different avenues to take, I did learn a fair bit of new things and often overlooked information on those dialogue boxes. Cheers!
Between seeing this as a new release I didn't know about and old world releasing in may, this is a good time for strategy games. Loved the vid, cant wait for part 2
That seems to be the way strategy games are released. They tend to come in bunches. At least it seems that way to me.
It is currently available to play on Xbox if you have the Game Pass. It is March 22nd 2024
I'm loving every time that you do a spotlight on new games. I just bought Terraformers and played the hell out of it and I've got my eye on this one too. I'm halfway through the 2nd Dune book. Re-read the first one last year. This looks like they've really drawn from the rich world of Dune and not just taken a glossy account from the movies. Very exciting.
Same for me with Against the Storm ^^
Man I'm so happy you are on Dune. I loved your Civ6 videos and was hoping for you to jump in. You are the best tutorial this game can get :)
Shiro Games are very good at what they do, they really breathe new life into the whole RTS/4X/Strategy genres
Yeah I also wonder if this will entice some Dune fans who normally wouldn't play RTS/Strategy games to play this game.
@@ruud9761 Me, I am that Dune fan, never really liked RTS games in the past, but I love the Dune universe and I love this game, first RTS game that I’ve really enjoyed in quite some time
"Because water is life on Dune and if you don;t have water you're dead"
Uhhhh, Potato... that's not a Dune thing... that's an everywhere thing >.>
I could watch you play literally for hours. As a fan of Dune, it looks like a really fun game :D
blue eyed potato KILLED me 😂
Okay I'm really liking the references popping up on screen. Well done :) Am considering subscribing.
This feels like a game I'd watch potato play with the same consistency and interest that I watch civ 6. I'm so fucking glad this game is getting the positive impressions that it's getting. This video definitely sold the game for me.
What I like about this game is you some times would want to mess with a stronger player trying to take out a weaker player using the different ops. It's not that safe to take out players so keeping a weaker one alive feels vary riskish. Where you both are not teamed but will help each other because losing a player out right could send the balance to a steam roll.
I agree with this with nearly every strategy game. Balance of power, prevents others from becoming too strong.
Great video and as always your editing takes it to the next level. I might get this game tomorrow because of your video on it
When potato says its ready for early access but actually isnt ready for another 20 hours :(
"You wouldn't of a game entirely built on sands" *laughs in civ 6 Mali*
I am eagerly waiting for the House Ordos induction
Thanks for the video, can't wait for the other factions
Love your videos, this is a nice change of pace from CIv
To be honest you could argue that the house itself are generally honorable "good" guys, its paul and his descendants that caused a ruckus. and like someone else said when the harkkonnens are around you can lower the bar for good guy
I've been loking for an RTS to play and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dune! I think I'll have to check this game out...
Its still kinda weird seeing a revival of what was once one of the grandfathers of scifi rts's
This is the first RTS style game I have ever played. Played for a few hours and I’m not any good at it but I’m going to give it another go. Thank you for the informative video. You make it seem easy.
@Tim thank you Tim. I took like half an hour just reading everything and trying to understand some of the mechanics. I appreciate the tips.
Just pause the game to think strategy until you get good at strategy on the fly. I've never played this one, not sure if the game limits the camera pans when you pause. Remember that the AI doesn't have to think, it's doing many things at once.
Thx potato - didnt know this was coming out till I saw your video
Miss the command and conquer version of dune.
I'm loving this! As someone who doesn't have the hardware for this game I'm super excited to see more of it! where's 2 of 2???
Much appreciation to the blue eyed potato
The OG Dune game is well worth a playthrough...not the RTS one, but the management strategy one where you actually play as Paul.
Been super excited to play this game and came across this video. First time to the channel but you’re content is great and very informative counting I’ve only played one RTS in my life and that being Age of Mythology. Consider me subscribed
Love what you did with the Spud guy at the beginning of the vid. 😆
The old dune games were fire. Very challenging for a young me, and pretty entertaining. Imagine a little 9yr old me trying to figure out why everytime i send a unit out to the enemy base a sandworm at them, and yet, the enemy could walk around like it was nothing lol
THey were great. I'm not sure about this. The atredies making friends with the Harkonen after a several hundred year feud?
a friend of mine got to my home in yearly 90s and say: "I have a new game for us!!! is called C&C... Command & Conqueror or something like this... , i look straight to him and say "so what?" a he say "its like a clone of DUNE 2! i only remember to scream at him saying "why the hell you lost all that time with bullshit talking, PLEASE INSTALL THAT SH** FAST" the new kids can't imagine the impact of the first Dune games... they created a new genre of games!
Loved seeing this new game I plan on playing..I wish your first video on this game was a bit longer
Re:playing defensively and carefully with Atreides - I find that influence production is much slower than authority, so I'm always raiding villages and occasionally annex one when I have enough influence to do so. So I've been playing a very aggressive Atreides and it's going pretty well, I own about 1/2 of the map and I'm engaging the Smugglers on one flank. So, aggressive works pretty well too.
Also for future refernce with spice silos. you don't need to build 1 in every spice field. They are an AOE building so you can save upkeep and slots in your important spice regions by placing them more strategically to affect multiple zones.
Finally, a wonderful RTS that I have been looking for. Quite resource-demanding I would say. Hopefully a 1050 Ti would suffice. I have high hopes of this game when I play it.
18:45 Lol "tax negoCiations"
"We didn't need him anyway" is such a Harkonnen thing to say.
I didn’t realize this was an RTS!!!! I like the spin they put on it too! Looks great.
Remember Potato, he who controls the spice, controls the universe!
But do they control your mom?
Aaaand I ended up buying the game because of this video (I had it on my wishlist since the announcement anyway).
Thanks man.
What's your take on the game? I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews on Steam and I'm also not a fan of Northgard-style RTS.
@@daisukehamasaki6626 I enjoyed Northrend, and this game is not too bad though it's not very deep and you definitely won't be spending hundreds of hours playing it.
All in all I'd wait till it's on 50% discount before buying it (so probably by June during the Steam Summer Sale).
Absolutely beautiful and very fun looking game. Thank you for sharing this!
*ATREIDES! ATREIDES! ATREIDES!*
Love the video, loved the game.
Really hope it turns out even better once it hits live release!
Didn't purchase yet, still waiting on your videos to make my decision!
Very good video. Prompted me to buy game, along with viewing movie last night. You dictate well and have a good flow. Well done :)
Excellent gameplay and edition skills!
All I'd really like is Dune 2 remastered with QoL improvements.
same
If you are still curious about the experimental ornithopter: It's special trait is, that it does not consume any resources. So techically it's a +2 power cells.
This looks good, might be a purchase when I get home from work! Nice 👌
This is so dope, definitely going to spend hours on this game haha :)
I love Dune the whole universe is so interesting.
Played the crap out of Dune 2 battle for Arrakis as a kid on my mega drive..
That game was soooooo good. I miss it really
Such a clever move from Shiro Games to take Norhgard give it a new coat and twist it .. thumbs up
My first game was with the Fremen. And i have so much fun with this game. Hope that the early acces will help the developers quite well.
Loving the content recently mate 👍
Just watched Dune last weekend, amazing! Excited for a Dune game. Hope it's good!
Can't wait for Chapter 2.
Highly recommend reading the book
The only Dune content I ever consumed is Behind the Dune, a "flash" game
55:46 "I feel like a military base will be quite based"
*I see what you did there*
This looks like lots of fun
After watching the video, I feel like I am 12 years old again, playing Dune II. :D Fond memories. :)
How? This game has nothing to do with good old Dune games. This is resident sleeper game that just wants to milk off Dune movie's success. There's no Ordos, no campaign with cutscenes, no story, no quads, trikes, combat tanks, siege tanks, devastators, deviators, sonic tanks... I don't see a thing that would make me nostalgic for the old titles it's entirely different generic hotchpotch.
Looks interesting and yes, the style is satisfying
video got put into my recommended and i had to subscribe for the voice alone.
Atreideez-nuts
Can´t wait for tomorrow after work to try it out, Harkkonen for life!
"RTS with 4X elements" ... man, I want a proper 4X!
i've never played this type of game, would you say it's new-player friendly? i loved the book and movie and i'm curious to try this.
Loved the spice tainted potato intro thank you for the reference
This looks so good, I can't wait to get this
Game is not actually out yet, releases tomorrow
I would like to see hypothetical groups as well, like being able to control the Traders guild, or the emperor, or the Bot's of "IX", but this does look really cool.
Man, I remember playing dune 2 "battle for Arrakis" back in day.
Cool. The spice must flow. Subbed
I remember playing Dune an RTS a very long time ago, this must be new.
What are those little ships going back and forth at 10:04? I don't have those in my game, but the look cool. Have those been removed with a more recent update (just bought the game a few days ago) or are they from a building/tech?
The look and feel of this game really reminds me of Northguard.
Same Devs!
@@PotatoMcWhiskey makes sense, cheers
Am I the only one bothered by the fact that House Atreides is green? Blue all day! Ordos should be green. :D
Oreos should not exist)
This is the first game of this type I've ever properly attempted (a couple of goes back at civilisation 2 and age of empires) and the theme has massively helped for me to get involved.
And I really enjoy it! Even won a game! (On easy small map) Haha
I still have sooooo much more to learn and this video has helped to pick up some concepts and cement understanding of others.
My next win might not be so arbitrary 😅
Pirates. I hate those filthy bandits
Great video. Thanks very much.
great editing.
The spice must flow
tnks cool video tutorial love this game i play since old dune rts
The edits were really nice.
The blue eyes on the potato... Nice
I laughed at the infestor
You have the fastest voice of all time. I need a calm voice for this extremely hard game.
Where is part 2?
interesting stuff and it being made by the northguard folks gives me hope.
Great content, well explained and engaging.
More Potato for 🍟
Really intrigued by this. Looks very good. Please more, maybe a Harkkonnen after this for a complete opposite feel for the game.
"Water is like universal source in Dune" 5:51 How fascinatinating and interesting :)
Can’t wait !! New strategy game
I was wondering if you'd play it i'd been watching alot of your stuff because im new to 4X and have been very hyped for it.
