Comedy is about saying the wrong thing in the right way, crossing the line, pointing out harsh truths, saying the quiet part out loud, pointing out flaws we all have, and making the listeners HAPPY while it happens. Not gonna lie, I don't watch the podcast like I used to anymore BECAUSE of the Spotify thing. The only place I can watch it is on my phone. I'm not gonna hold my phone or prop it up for 2-4 hours. Very uncomfortable. However, if they bring video to the PS4/PS5 app, I'll definitely watch it again. I used to watch at least a couple episodes every week. But I can't watch it on my TV anymore. It's not a smart TV. I used the UA-cam app on my console. Oh well, I also stopped paying for Spotify and finally made the switch to Apple Music. Had music not available on Spotify like Mixtapes from rappers, I was blown away. Not everything but more than Spotify basically. And the way the lyrics follow with the song, not available on Spotify. They just copy+paste it. I can Google the lyrics myself for that. And the quality available on Apple Music, amazing. I'll switch back if video comes to PS5.

By the same token, inversely not too many comedians translate well from standup to a podcast or tv show. One thing I find interesting about podcasters like PewDiePie is the format itself, i.e. the role the editor plays in enhancing the comedic value of the speakers through supportive graphics and effects etc. It's a new format for comedy, though not the same thing as standup of course. A key point you made about standup though is the live audience. Without a live audience, standup doesn't work nearly as well. There's something about that secret ingredient, even if the standup is recorded, the live audience plays a huge role in that format.
Comedy is a sub genre of entertainment. 20 years ago people were watching sports, listening to radio shows, watching the news. Now, people are watching professional gamers, people watching podcasts, making their own content. UA-cam opens so many doors on the internet, it’s almost free TV. People have so much access to whatever they want on the internet it almost killed every other type of media; not many people read books or newspapers anymore, not many people watch cable tv, I don’t listen to the radio anymore I use my headphones instead.
