  • I found the original version of this test a bit slow and tedious. So I simply edited it down to make comparing the lenses easier. I primarily focused on the two closest focal lengths 42mm and 45mm.

I saw some breath while pulling focus on both lens, but I also see the image get stretch up while pulling focus on Mercury?

The panning on the Remus is almost unusable is my only issue otherwise so good for the price point

Don’t like the mercury. Looks like the squeeze factor changes significantly with focus changes

ok yea look at the panning shots. The Remus is squeezing and stretching on the sides. Looks like some magnifying glass

@@ThatGuyOverThereWeird Yep. The distortion seems to be the biggest difference to my eyes.

I agree. The Atlas has the edge here but just barely, and I’m not sure the minor improvements warrant the cost difference. However, one thing this test doesn’t show is durability and manufacturing quality. I wonder how accurate the Blazar’s markings are or if they can survive the rigors of production over the course of many years.

@@ThatGuyOverThereWeird imo the most overlooked issue with the Remus. The fish tank distortion when panning and tilting is crazy distracting. If you can shoot around this and mainly move in and out as well as side to side without panning, they can offer beautiful results. If not, quite a deal breaker for narrative and commercial projects imo.

@@NicolasWaldvogelYes or just correct for it with Resolve. Resolve has an anamorphic distortion correct tool which pretty much fixes this with the click of a button.
