  • Quarter Window Weather Stripping 63-70 Buick Riviera
Welcome to (does stuff garage) While doing testing on our sound deadening decibel meter project I ran into a snag. Wind, water and traffic noise from faulty quarter window weatherstipping is leaking into my life and throwing off my readings. To fix this I ordered a two different seals and decided to do a comparison of their fitment/feel/material on our 1963 Buick Riviera LS swap project. I chose SoffSeal (SoftSeal) for the "brand name" and then a generic no-name for our comparison. The SoffSeal is supposedly direct fit for the 63, 64 and 65 Buick Riviera while the Old Buick Parts brand fits 1964-1974 LeSabre, Centurion, Wildcat, Electra, Riviera.

Since the SoffSeal ended up being extremely hard to fit and about and inch too short (story of my life) I decided to use the Car's Inc version. I used 3M 08008 adhesive but if you have used 3M 08011 let me know the difference, I've been trying to figure it out for years.
I'm glad I went with the Old Buick Parts generic cut to fit weather stripping. I like the softer foam based rubber it appears to be made out of and has since fixed my decibal meter issue. And at less the $25 for either brand it was a pretty reasonably priced upgrade for any classic car DIY project.

That’s on my to-do list! I’ll do an overview of the whole car though - that’s a good idea. Right now I’m making a series about where the most effective places to sound deaden with a decibel meter with before/after testing! Just posted the first video in that series actually. I’ve got a video about customer door panels and rear deck for it as well!
