I love condensing!! ❤ I have an overflow binder for items that I might spend from that way the $500 would be in the overflow binder. Then just put the$500 back in the envelope and take out the placeholder. Now long term like emergency or savings would go to the bank rather then the overflow binder if that makes sense. ❤

I haven't gotten to placeholders personally, but what makes the most sense to me is to withdraw the placeholder amount from the bank, unstuff what you need to. Bring that back to the bank and keep the remainder in your binder until you need that placeholder again. That's what I would do!

I made a buffer envelope for my savings categories, and i keep like $100 in it at all times, so when i hit a placeholder and dont have enough, i have that buffer

When breaking a placeholder amount (like going below $500) I'd just use $100 placeholders and cash for the rest. So if the new balance was $450: Four $100 placeholders and $50 cash. I guess if it were $410 I'd use three $100 placeholders and $110 cash.
But since I don't have a filming situation, if the money is in the bank I've got "movie" prop money stash that helps me represent what's in the HYSA vs what needs to go to my checking account when I reconcile my books.
