I think a good way of thinking about this is in nhl 24 they phrase it like this : “this player is an 85 overall and happens to be a power forward” Where as in nhl 25 its : “This player is an 85 overall power forward” Now this creates a weird situation where certain player types might be more valuable then others
He's been trying to get Michkov into a sniper but doesn't know it will drop his overall by like 5 haha. but does Overall actually affect the sim or is it stats only? That's what I'd like to know.
THIS is the kind of thing EA needs to promote. I hate how much we have to guess and experiment with all the systems. Tell us how to play the game and understand it. Not just pretend to upgrade the AI.
i cant believe this wasnt in nhl24! I wanna say it was like this back in nhl12 but id have to double check edit: it was in nhl 12 confirmed, to some extent. everything to 60 was 57 ovr for all forwards, but maxing wrist shot power and accuracy varied from 59 to 65 ovr depending on player type
This raises 2 questions for me 1. How does player growth differ in NHL 25 compared to 24? Does this mean that the player grow in attributes weighted towards their current playstyle? So if you're a sniper with 81 defensive awareness like Cole Caulfield, will that value increase much compared to in NHL 24? 2. How much does OVR rating compared to individual attributes matter when it comes to simming in Franchise mode? Does the fact that your sniper has 81 defensive awareness matter that much? A separate observation is for someone like Michkov, he's a 79 sniper vs an 82 playmaker, so that makes the new feature of changing a player's playstyle intriguing. At 79 he's probably not worth rostering on your 4th line, but at 82 he could be a 3rd line forward, but that depends whether you want to build your team with him as a goal scorer or a playmaker and also on what his shoot/pass bias is (which can also be changed using season goals)
Amazing Research! If you don't mind, I would love to reference your research and give your channel a shoutout in an upcoming prospect growth tutorial video I am working on! Let me know if that's okay.

2bc needs to see this

Very well made video! Something simple that makes franchise mode that much better this year.
I was not gonna buy NHL25 this video showed me that they did make meaningful changes and now I am going to buy. Thank you for the awesome vid!
So they actually made the different player types actually different player types? Jesus, revolutionary
The really shocking thing is that it took until NHL 25 for EA Sports to do this right. It seems like the most no-brainer system.
This makes me feel a lot that in NHL 24, player type didn't matter at all. In NHL 25 player type does actually matter
God this change was so needed. Great video!
I've been waiting for this. I love this!
Excellent spreadsheets!
Great video man!

Very well done video

Can you do this for goalies?

Sounds like good video ideas ;)
I think you can ask them to change positions, not play style
Good vid ! 👍
Good questions in comments too.
Time to experiment.
Thank you for using caufield as an example 😁
Does height and weight factor in?
It does not as far as I know!
@WingelsDGC and do you know if this is how hut works too?
Ok so do the attributes drop if you play an def d man in the foward sniper position? Or is the rating just a rating?
Attributes are the exact same, only the overall rating changes. Would need to test if the player type would affect player growth in say franchise mode
So a player like kuzmenko should be a higher rating this year?
I hope its like this in hut too!
makes no sense why enfd has less physical points than dfd but has more defense points.
And why does two way D have more defense points than defensive D
Very interesting indeed
I think they didn’t say anything because the old system is to shit so they hope people don’t know about it

Sounds cool! By all means use whatever you need to!
@@WingelsDGC awesome! Thank you
more of a video exposing how trash nhl 24 was than how good 25 is. i bet this feature was in nhl 07.
*Sigh* just another guy shilling for EA.
