Very helpful Rex. Especially the demonstration of the washing with the blue paint, showing exactly what to expect. As a beginner, we need these details. I do, anyway. Thanks.
Sounds like after you wear the tip off your natural hair brush it is still very useful. And that by buying a good quality synthetic you get the fine point you need for details and calligraphic marks without having to shell out for another natural hair brush. It adds to your collection, but it saves money. I have a very old #12 round. (From the 70's or so) It is very well made and lost its point many years ago, but I still use it from time to time because if it ability to hold water. I also keep it in my collection for its mojo.
This is excellent! I'm new in watercolour painting and I purchased both synthetic and natural brushes. I thought there's something wrong with what I'm doing until I saw this video. Thank you!
This was beyond helpful! I always wondered which retained their tips better. After how much daily use would you say the Kolinsky sable begins to use its point/need replacing?
Thanks for your comment Christine. I'm pretty hard on my brushes and I paint on rough paper. I would say the Kolinsky holds a great point for a month or two of continuous use. It's still a good brush for washes and when you flatten the end to a chisel shape it still gives lots of options but that sharp point that is useful for calligraphy and fine detail doesn't last too long.
Very helpful demo on natural hair and synthetic brushes. What is the brand name of your synthetic brush? I couldn't make out what you said. Thanks for this video:)
The synthetic is Escoda Perla. They are a great brush and as I said they are really strong and hold a point for the longest time of any brush I've ever had.
This is a really good comparison. Love the fact that you showed the strong points between the two types and their capabilities!
Thanks for the comment.
