Modern day pop fiction vampire is a sort of amalgamation of different folklore monsters tied to bloodsucking. Word vampire derived from slavic folklore, and original slavic vampire is closer to zombies than to modern pop fiction vampire. It was described as a someone who died in sin (either being a sinner themselves like thief, or someone young who was killed) - so their corpse will reanimate to do all sorts of bad things - bloodsucking is one of those. So there were some special rituals for burial of such people to prevent reanimated corpse from getting out of their graves. The Confessarii don't have a clear race but its hinted that they may all be Chimera, especially when one of the members can mimic the Arts of other Sarkaz. Chimera is the act of merging multiple pure blooded Sarkaz bloodlines to create new beasts. Its also why they are the only faction who can seal the influence of the Sarkaz king as they have the secrets of all Sarkaz witchcraft's. They are meant to serve the Sarkaz king but also seek to improve the Sarkaz beyond their current status they would be akin to researchers or a high governing priesthood. Which is why the current generation allies itself with Theresis as they see Babel/Rhodes Island as a sort of direct competitor with their wishes. They also experiment with orginum and have a very tight leash on their bloodline which is why Shining I believe wanted to get away from them. They also made those things W encounters when she enters the Sarkaz tomb of heroes.
As for W and Hoederer, I believe Hoederer is a Goliath like W's mercenaries but I could be wrong as for W herself its not clear as her arts and fighting methods are unconventional compared to other Sarkaz. I believe she might just be a base Sarkaz but with unique horns that look like antenna.
