Fantastic video as always mate, loved seeing the landscape become more urban and the number of cars increase as you continued heading south!

Sudbury is actually similar to Halifax as both cities are heavily forested.
In spite the massive housing developments in Halifax, many parts of its inner and outer city areas still have a lot of trees.
While the Halifax Peninsula area is seeing more housing developments and apartment towers, there are still many parts of that city with a lot of trees.

19:57 The Fraser Canyon which had just experienced flood from the cascading water coming from the Chilcotin River that was dammed from a landslide.
Also there's so many passing lanes on the non-freeway part I'd legitimately try to give the Swedish 2+1 road layout a try.
31:00 Your transition animations popped in

One of my favourite drives. Glad to see another long-form video on your channel. Interesting to see that long portion of 69 under construction, seeing as I drove through there in early June with no trace of roadwork. Also nice to see the freeway portion of 17, which I also had no idea that was a full freeway until I drove it for the first time in early June.
    Nice work on the video!

I recently watched your drive from Toronto to Sudbury so I figured why not watch the reverse too lol.
Somehow it's a different experience in both directions :)

I always like the Hwy 17 freeway. I always look forward to driving it when I am in the Sudbury area. I used to be in Sudbury quite a lot for work. Less so now, but I'm still up there from time to time.

What a long drive heading home from Greater Sudbury to the GTA! Let's hope the 400 is complete soon as it replaces all of the 69.

Great video! I still haven't been able to see the new Highway 69 segments in Sudbury since it opened in 21, but they were nearly complete last time I was there. Also it seems like 400 north of Highway 7 has been going through widening works for an eternity now, but I'm glad to see they have begun extending the HOV lanes south. I don't recall the construction being there when I was in Toronto about two weeks earlier

The construction work on the 400 north of Hwy 7 is brand new. I drove up north a couple of days earlier, and they hadn't shifted the northbound lanes over into the median at that time. Thanks for the comment.

When I competed for Nova Scotia at the 1998 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, we drove from Toronto to Sudbury through Ontario Highway 400.
While visiting Sudbury, I was amazed at how forested the city is.
Sudbury even reminds me of my home town, Halifax, as the major Canadian city in Nova Scotia has a lot of forested areas in spite its large population growth.

I do this drive every time I visit family down south! You should do HWY144 as well all the way north to Timmins, though, I wouldn’t recommend going during the winter time.

Welcome back AP, it’s been a while! I really enjoyed that almost 1 hour-long video! Definitely a joy to watch! I just came back home from our hotel at Quebec City to see Bryan Adams performing at Lévis. Btw, congrats on reaching 8k subscribers!
Also, have you heard of a crash that occurred on the westbound Hwy 401 on the interchange with Hwy 35/115? I found that on Freeway Andrew’s channel & he precised that fortunately, nobody got injured

A speed limit of 110 km/h? I have been on Highway 69 going 130 km/h and have been passed like I was an old lady. "Speed suggestion" is a better description. For those of us who have travelled this route, the boundary between Northern and Southern Ontario is obvious. The rocks go away. The trees change. You can feel it.

Is the 400 gap being built now? It would be very interesting to see a 400 series highway extend all the way into Northern Ontario. This plus the return of the Northlander train could give the region a huge tourism boost.

    • @AsphaltPlanet1
      @AsphaltPlanet1  5 місяців тому +1

There is currently no construction ongoing to fill in the gap in the four lane highway. It doesn’t seem like there is going to be any construction for at least a few more years. Thanks for the comment.

Last month me and my cousin were trying to take 400/69 back home to Toronto from Sudbury but due to a horrendous crash that blocked the entire highway, we were forced to divert onto highway 11

@@AsphaltPlanet1 That’s why on the undivided section on highway 69, they should install jersey barriers or flexible bollards in between lanes to reduce crashes.

  • @Cdawg-vb7no

They really need to finish that last 70km of hwy 69. But I'll never understand why there's that small freeway section on the 17 west of Sudbury then its just ends. Why not just complete the freeway to hwy 69 interchance?

Sudbury is Ontario's version of Halifax as most of the city is forested in spite the massive housing developments.
With an exception of Downtown Halifax, many parts of the city is forested with numerous trees dotting its streets.
