The acrylic crystals on Vostok watches are a particular and deliberate design feature. They are push fit only. No glue or sealant is used. This means that when diving, water pressure on the crystal pushes the outer circumference outwards and improves the water resistance by making the crystal fit increasingly tightly as depth increases.
@@khakimzhanmiras They would meet the claimed 200m we, but the acrylic crystals actually fail at around 800m. They vastly exceed the specified depth rating. There are pressure test videos on UA-cam. Sapphire crystal is unlikely to be as flexible and would crack before the acrylic crystals.
I have the previous version of this without the small seconds..... It's a wonderful watch...... But yes, the edges are super sharp.... I gently filed that sharpness off. it's always sold out but as I live in Russia I got a new one off of the Russian equivalent of eBay :-) Rolex, Omega... Everyone has one. Like you, my Vostoks get more comments than luxury watches. Great video Blake
I have a similar VOSTOK without the small seconds hand and the case has lots of sharp edges. I bought a woman's nail file that has a 'shape', 'smooth', 'buff', and 'polish' side to the nail file. I filed the edges down ,following the numbers on the nail file, and it feels and looks great now. The crown IS wobbly and hard to hand wind without re threading it. At least the rotor is quiet.
The 170 style case are not the 710 case with another finish. They come from the 150 - the 150 are polished, not brushed and the 170 with leather strap has a sligthly modified lug hole placing - and the 150 comes from the 090. The difference between the 150 and the 090 are the milled out/closed lug. I love them all. I have 2 DIY builded 090, 1 170963 (really beautiful dial!) 1 090679m, 1 710615 and my son have a 060358.
Cool video. I like watches, but resist buying expensive ones. I own Vostok, Casio, Swatch (scuba libre). Vostok is good, I like several of them, so far I just have a scuba dude. I might be nuts, but I wish Vostok made a quartz watch, I’d buy them too.
@Grizzly where the numbers on the dial are depressed on the dial. It's almost like am engraved effect. Not sure if that makes sense, if not, just search for the same and you'll get videos explaining it
Yup, the ones with dates are troublesome. Got a Scuba Dude with date and, like you, only wear it when the date shown is near to the actual date. I'll probably get a dateless one in future.
I have my Dads Rotary Elite quartz that looks very similar to this but is easier to read the dial I’ve had couple of Vostok watches and flipped them will probably get another hand wind at some point
There are some that pop up on watchuseek (just one last week) but they fetch about $250-$300 atm. However, I’d keep my eye out for another reissue soon. They are popular
I am not so sure it s an hommage. Honestly there is another model in the Amphibia line certain Glashutte company did a very similar model a few years ago telling about how "Eastern Germany navy divers would wear them". I think is like with the diver s watches, besides Blancpain wich is a very original design you really can t tell if Rolex stolr from anyone or if anyone else kind of stole from Rolex design.
That’s a great point. In one way shape or form, most watches are homages of some sort. But the Panerai Luminor has a very distinct look from many moons ago
Will someone please tell me what a "sandwich dial" is. Also, what is a "cushioned case". I thought I knew a bit about watches, but I havn't heard these two terms before.
Sandwich dial is where there is a lume dial under the dial, and the dial has "cut outs" at the numerals, pips, etc. A cushion case it typically wider and sits flat-ish on the wrist. Shorted lug lengths too. I hope this helps!
Out of stock as many, many other models.I think Vostok is having serious problems, maybe its end? Meranom is exactly in that situation, almost no watches to sell.
They are apparently on summer break basically evrybody in meranom so no restocking for a while and covid deffinetly has its part in it you know resource shortages for the manafacturing plant and such

So, is it a lumed sandwich dial though? Because lots of things on a Vostok I did learn to live with, like the no-quick-set date, or finnageling the bezel spring tightness, but the lume on Amphibia, let alone Komandirski: no can do.
@@threehandhunter I see, thanks. Still, that's interesting, might work out to fill the voids with lume 'a posteriori' and turn a sandwich into a sausage dial.
The lume is great. I'm Scandinavian and our night vision may be a little better, but I have never had a problem with any Vostok. Yes, the light will fade, but it is plenty visible once the night vision kicks in. This one really glows in the dark.
