Hi!! I'm Wendy and I make DIY videos that teach you how to sew your own clothes (and lots of other tutorials). Subscribe if you'd like to learn, get inspiration, and stock up on helpful tips. Thanks for watching!
I just finished mine and I am so happy with how it turned out. It was quite easy, even though the pocktes were a pain in the ass, but the cape itself is just awesome! I added a little button on the top, to make it a little more secure and I didn't even buy some wool, I just used a blanket I found (this may be interesting for people on a budget).
Thank you for the diy, Wendy, you're awesome!
krea sorry i accidentally pressed on dislike but i immediately clicked on like again, but i just wanna say thank you that lifted up my spirits a bit
Krea, excellent idea using the blanket!
this was by far the simplest diy for pockets ive ever seen. i love the diys on this channel becuase theyre always very easy to follow for projects that would otherwise seem overwhelming
I really hope you could show the finished piece properly in every direction at the end of video. I didn't really understood how the scarf part works or how it looks like on front.
Made a wool cape and got to wear it for the first time on last weekend's Chicago roadtrip. Skip the pockets if you want this to be much easier. Happy watching, happy sewing, happy travels, happy Thanksgiving! For the Americans ;)
I loved it, can you pleeeaase please pleaaase make a cardigan pleaaser, I love your channel and I enjoy watching all your videos and id love to know how to make a cardigan. If you read this and like to reply to my request i would explode with the exciement, because i cant find any good cardigans with pretty colors, either it is pretty and awful quality or ugly color but good quality, i know you will be able to do this, and if you already have one, please link it. Thanks!😄
+Maki Garza she has 3 cardigan tutorials now. 1 is from a few years ago and then 2 of them are in 1 video and it's pretty new.
pls make more winter clothing diy!! plsssss
I was hoping to see more of the finished product but there were barely any clips : (

Wendy: pockets are very optional...
Me: NO!!! POCKETS ARE A MUST!!!

Learnt something new today, the way you tie your knots. Will totally be borrowing that one.
This is so nice. I bet it would look even cooler with a cool colored lining.
Love this tutorial a wool cape, wow. One it seems easy enough for me as a beginner sewer and two big enough to fit a curvy woman as myself. Thanks for this tutorial. This is a must do diy. Thanks
I've wanted to make this for years and I finally have!! Thank you so much for all that you do, Wendy! I've learned so much from you over the years!
thank you for the welt pocket instructions. I'm an advanced sewer but never figured out how to do them.
brilliant as a self taught new sewing girl it is a great easy way to do a cape plus very stylish
I loved the video but it would be better if you could show the end product on yourself or on hanger
Go to her blog to see it. Link in her description box
Good explanation on a very stylish and practical warm weather cape. Thank you.
I made a yoga poncho from 1 yard of fabric. Long sleeves and short on torso. Thanks for the inspiration.
Can you do a vlog where you show us where you do your fabric shopping? I went in joanns once and immediately came out because i had no idea on what to do
+Rhonda Harris And also how to estimate how much fabric to buy and what you do with leftovers scrap material?

Okay but there are not enough likes on this video for that incredible vlog type thing in the beginning! Loveeee
Ooh, I love your pocket method!
Chic, simple, adorable...what more could you want?!?!?!
I love the fact that you can see the measuring tape and also that it is a bit zoomed in!

I cannot believe I haven't learned to sew properly I have not yet watched this video before I decided to comment but I'm just gonna let you know you will be my inspiration for starting my new fashion journey iv never contemplated becoming a fashion person but I'm positive this video will seal the deal for me thank you so much wendy

Thanks for the tutorial....i love the tips on tying off the thread and an easier way to sew pockets!
plan on making this as a gift for my sister thank you !
Well done. Beautiful cape.
Hey Wendy,
This is the best cape/poncho online so far, and you uploaded this a year ago! I have made this cape twice now, and I have 3 tips for future seamstresses attempting this: 1) add lining to the scarf piece 2) internal/concealed pockets were more useful and easier than external slit pockets 3) double-fold hem is better with wool coating fabric.
Wendy! I'm so sorry I just found you!!! New subbie!!!!! Gonna rock a cape this winter, thanks to you!
that pocket making method you did looked sooooo much easier than what my college taught me
Dude, that looks super cool, I'm gonna try it !!!
Pockets are never optional. They should be required in all things. LOL! Love the way you make your thread knots. Will have to try that.
I like the way you show the tutorial. It's cool !!
I love how you explain everything, I actually think I will be able to make those pockets, greetings from México
I was just hunting for a winter cape coat reasonably priced for the last few days. I needed to see this! I think I can do this.Thank you!
you are amazing! I love your videos, I think I will dig out my sewing machine again!
You made look so simple.

Your cape tutorial is the best one I have seen. Coats are too confining for me so capes are the next best thing. I would add a little more yardage for myself because I like them longer. Thank you so much for such a wonderful tutorial. GOD BLESS.
My fav style! Poncho and cape in one cool wrap YAY!
Wendy, you did a great job. Very professional.work. I am looking forward to making a few for myself. I may even make them longer for dramtic effect.

And you inspired me! I'm working on a circle caplet and I had no idea what to do for the ties. Hopefully I have enough black fleece in the basement to finish off with the scarf like "ties"
The best I've ever seen. Thanks
Hi Wendy, glad I came across you channel :)
Please post/add a picture of you wearing the cape. I can't really see how it came out (in full) wanted to see how the top/scarf part looks like so that I can make the same or adjust it a little. Thanks ✨
Wendy! I never really comment, so I just want to tell you I love your channel and your tutorials on what to make by sewing it yourself! Can't wait to try some of your diy clothes :)
I was just thinking about how I was going to make one of those, before I saw this was uploaded! You read my mind! I live in Minnesota, and I think this will be perfect for the cold weather! I'm definitely making this ASAP, and I hope I'll remember to tag you!

You are sooooo talented!!!
You have fantastic craft! Your pieces look so professional, and so clean! I love it!
thats an awesome video. gonna go and try it now
Hello, I just bumped into this video and I have to thank you for making such a great tutorial! Have a great day xx
I wish I had a half of your talent
I love the way you explained everything. I'm going to give it a try, but make it reversible and use fleece instead of wool. Wish me luck! BTW I always thought: Capes buttoned, tied or snapped at the neck and did go below the waist, and did not have pockets. Cloaks were below the knee or to the ankle, again no pockets. Ponchos were put on over the head, did not open all the way in the front and had a "pouch" big enough for both hands in the front center on the outside and no other pockets and the basic shape was squared rather than rounded. Guess I just "dated" my self with those comments. LOL I like the style of your garment (except for the front opening). Will send you a pic when it is finished.
amazing DIY!!
I cannot wait to make this! it is STUNNING! Thank you
Wendy, I love it! You are such a clever bean. Those pockets look divine x
I would love to see some more images of the cute cape. Can you show more on the vlog? Thanks
Finished the cape yesterday, thank you so much for this tutorial! I love the cape already. I omitted the pockets though because I'm lazy, but your method of doing them is so clever, I'll definitely remember that for the future! I might even add them to my cape at a later point. :)
Your so helpful! Such clean production on your videos !
Thank you so much this is the kinda thing I’ve been trying to find
Very nice thank you for sharing.
