    Damn, year after year the NC looks prettier and prettier. It went from being ugly to being gorgeous ❤️

      I agree. I didn't like it when it came out, but now I guess with all cars on the road being bloated SUVs and crossovers, anything small and light looks sexy. The NC looks great now.

    Can current versions of ND transmissions have OE-longevity with lightweight single mass flywheels?

    Interesting part for the clutch switch, here in europe, while there is a clutch switch, you don't have to depress the clutch to start the engine, maybe mazda trusts the europeans more to not start the car while in gear. :P

    I had a question about your stage 2 kit, im looking at making in the high 300's low 400 hp range and have been looking into the happy meal stage 2 kit but i've heard horror stories of the pressure plates coming apart with higher horsepower miatas. im not going to be doing drifting or any type of clutch kicking so im not sure if that's what has resulted in the issues others have had but i've also heard alot of good about the kit aswell. really appreciate these videos!

    I’ve heard it’s the opposite on the NC, the clutch gets lower, as they get older?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Рік тому

      All Miata clutches will have the engagement point rise as the clutch wears, with the exception of the ND factory pressure plate that self adjusts to keep it close to the same no matter what.

    Hmmm… so I have a 1991 big nose Miata (with level 1 fm turbo) and 9 days ago I ordered a rebuild kit for the seals and engine bearings, a coolant reroute and water pump, and a level one clutch kit. Have I made a mistake in just ordering y’all’s level one clutch for my 1.6 w/o the fly wheel?
    If I’ve messed up, is there a way to swap the clutch for a happy meal in my order or do I just need to order the flywheel in a separate order?
    Edit: doesn’t appear to be any real savings to the kit vs buying the flywheel and level one clutch kit separate. Is there anything I would be missing out on by just ordering a lightweight flywheel at this point?

    Very interested in the noise issue that can result from light flywheel. Is this the (in)famous deceleration buzz/grind that some NAs seems to develop? Or something different?

    Wouldn't a light flywheel have a negative effect on the engine's longevity? Wouldn't the lighter flywheel allow an imbalance that would allow the conrod bearing to chew themselves prematurely for example?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  3 місяці тому

      There's been no indication over the past 30 years that a lighter flywheel affects the longevity of a Miata engine. The conrod bearings are mostly dealing with the stresses of transferring the energy from the piston to the crankshaft - and accelerating/decelerating the reciprocating components repeatedly. The part that suffers from vibrations is the oil pump, as the power pulses are unavoidably delivered at different parts of the crank at different times. The front pulley's job is to dampen those vibrations. The flywheel isn't part of that, as the rear of the crankshaft is effectively attached to the transmission input shaft.

    • @mihaiserbanescu8676
      @mihaiserbanescu8676 3 місяці тому

      @@FlyinMiataVideo awesome! For the longevity of the engine, what would you recommend doing? Change the brittle oil pump gears or damper? And another question would be, what if there would be some scratches on the cylinder 1 bore. What could it be done about it and what could cause it?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  3 місяці тому +1

      @@mihaiserbanescu8676 The stock damper and oil pump seem to do just fine under normal operating conditions. They only become a problem when you either increase the rev limit substantially (8000 rpm+) or you add significant amounts of boost (300+ hp). The failure mode isn't so much slow wear as it is catastrophic failure. The damper can also suffer from a failure of the bond between the rubber and steel portions, you'll know that's happened when the timing mark is no longer lined up with TDC. This doesn't seem to result in engine failure, but we'd definitely recommend replacing a slipped damper.
      Scratches on the bore are probably from foreign object debris. If the car still has good compression, don't sweat it too much. Just make sure your air filtration system is complete. If you are showing low compression in that cylinder, the solution is to hone it and install some new rings. If the scratches are extreme, you may need to go with an overbore.

      @@BigStreams_ if you have a 1.6, our clutch will only work with our flywheel or a similar 1.8 flywheel. You haven't really missed anything by ordering it separately, but you will need a 1.8 flywheel of some kind for our Stage 1 clutch to work with your 1.6.
