I think our politics need more of this. I thought David did a good job of not getting too adversarial with Vivek yet held him accountable to answer his questions. I thought this was a great opportunity for Vivek to make his case without interruption and leave the judgment to the audience rather than the interviewer.
David tried very hard to take Vivek down the usual rabbit hole, but he knew his canned talking points didn't stand a chance against Viveks intellect. David was simply outgunned
It's not surprising you thought of Pakman as outgunned, since you made the claim about the rabbit hole and canned talking points. Just say you're in love with Vivek first, the rest doesn't even matter.

I agree. I actually don't mind him, because he can make some decent points, but he will switch tactics right in the middle of things and it's hard to follow at best. At worst, it's not an honest debate. I think if he really did some research, he could be formidable. Maybe...maybe not. But the real difference is the act of violence that hurt the woman was AN ACT OF VIOLENCE not MEDICAL CARE provided by a licensed, educated, and experienced medical professional! There's a HUGE DIFFERENCE. Even if she was hit by a car and both her and baby were lost. Even if it was a total and complete accident that person would be accountable for causing an ACCIDENT...accidents are not medical care either. I don't understand how Vivek gets away with telling a story like that and equates it to the abortion issue...
1L law student here. I’m just a noob but even I can see that that was a bad example and we should force Thomas to go back to law school because in the example he cited, the criminal is guilty of BATTERY and ASSAULT. Whereas with an abortion, the woman consents to the operation and the doctor isn’t guilty of anything so long as the patient gives their consent
Yes, but the legal argument is difficult for creating laws due to the way our constitution is written. The way the Supreme Court bypassed that was medical privacy and viability, but then you have to deal with someone who kicks their spouse until she miscarries and they are not up for murder due to the fetus not being an individual (who can be murdered) until viability. So, there is struggle to find the rights in the constitution. But a way to bypass this and find agreement is to pass laws based on the health of the mother (both mental and physical) to legalize abortion. For example, it would directly affect the mothers mental health to have a pregnancy or child. (No prediagnosis is needed). Then a woman whose unborn is killed by another would still be able to press charges on someone who killed their unborn.
Because in both instances a dead child is going to be removed from the mother's womb. But besides that, the point that the vivek was making is that Americans would hold that person accountable for their actions.
Why is it that those who are new, first or second generation citizens are always the first to try to yank somebody's citizenship or tell someone who can trace their family back 6 or 8 generations in this country to "go back to where they came from"?
Vivek, you are a true leader for not shying away from those who oppose you, choosing to engage in discussions even at the risk of being attacked. I’ve been watching your show since I saw you on the PBD podcast. I’m a center right republican that watches both sides of the isle with an open mind ( no, I didn’t vote for trump ). I appreciate that you try to give everyone a fair shake, that’s increasingly hard to find these days…
But you are voting Trump this time, right? Fool me once. ajor publications each year publish those insipid “how to handle your racist uncle during the holidays” articles. They’re absolutely useless because nobody in America has a racist uncle - and if they do, they aren’t actually worried about him. But here’s something most Americans almost certainly do have: a miserable left-wing relative or close family friend who shows up at least once each year to make everyone uncomfortable. The discomfort these guests impose has a range. It can be so subtle the victims aren’t even sure what’s causing it, or it can be so overt it results in verbal or even physical conflict. But it’s real, common, and a threat to holiday joy for all. The danger most commonly manifests itself in the passive-aggressive dinner- or drinks-time dare. The septum-pierced undergrad who dares you to have a difference of opinion on Gaza being an “open-air prison.” The cat-lady aunt who dares you to say otherwise on the “threat to democracy” (anyone who disagrees with her, ie. you). The 30-something cuckold who dares you to have the wrong answer to his intrusive query of who “got their booster.” They say what they want with impunity. The expectation is everyone present accepts it to get along. If not, the belief is you’ll be outsmarted and overwhelmed by their mastery of argument. Should they be countered with a superior, more popular perspective, the game isn’t over. They’ll scream. And just as likely, they’ll cry. Evening ruined. Mission accomplished. Seemingly, there is no winning. Either nod along politely or engage, thus running the likely odds of escalating a conflict that ends ugly for all present parties. But there are other viable options when confronted with a miserable liberal on Thanksgiving. Consider one or all of the following, depending on the subject’s level of hostility. Invite them to relax, cheer up, and share in the joy of the season. Happiness, amusement, and contentment are not the natural disposition of leftists. They prefer anger, self-righteousness, and dismay. The most wonderful time of year quickly approaches, though it makes no difference. But it very well might be because they don’t feel explicitly included by their family and loved ones. After all, leftists are nothing if not self-absorbed, neurotic, and needy. They often require extra attention if it means getting them to cooperate. When one seems ready to initiate a confrontation, perhaps suggest he or she - they/them - spare everyone the more serious topics of conversation and instead breathe a little, have a drink, and talk instead of sports, games, and romance. With caution, engage the conversation. This option only works if done under the assumption the interaction is sure to become acrimonious. It’s nothing for a liberal to call family members - to say nothing of perfect strangers - racist, bigoted, and uneducated. Those are insults sure to be thrown by the wet blanket of a Thanksgiving guest, and just the same, they’re meaningless substitutes for reasonable debate and logic. When the conversation, such that it can be called one, reaches that point, it’s best to calmly address the dunce with something like, “I’m glad you got that off your chest,” before turning attention to more interesting, enjoyable guests. There is no matching the emotional agony, anguish, and gloom of a liberal ready for a fight. Their despair is to be dismissed, not disputed. Besides, why should your own delightful spirit be diminished by the perpetually unhappy? It shouldn’t. Belittle, debase, and denigrate the cheerless sourpuss. This is generally a last resort to cope with the miserable liberals known to repeatedly spread their blight in such gatherings; the ones who can be counted on to radiate discontent and decay, infusing holidays with their unique poison. Their opinions and views are inherently stupid and self-defeating, and they typically fly in the face of all life experiences. To call such assertions ridiculous, embarrassing, and thoughtless is both humorous and factual. It might also be necessary. Once again, the tortured leftist will likely respond with venom. That’s expected. Wounded animals have no choice but to bite. And once again, there is nothing to be gained in trying to match his spite. It can’t be matched, and the attempt moves the liberal’s victim into his preferred territory: desolation. Simply shift focus to another guest. I hope this helps, and happy Thanksgiving.

He does say the "broken family system" it's one of his go to history lessons about America, he also says there is a managerial class of people that he cannot name that have the power to decide if Joe Biden or Michelle Obama will be President, That the country has lost its glory, that the family system is failing, that institutions are inherently bad because career bureaucrats exist. These are his greatest hits, he always uses these frameworks to explore his ideas. The problem is he never explains why his world views are accurate to begin with. Take the final exchange in this interview as an example. He wants to gut institutions and funding, because he "believes" there is a managerial class that is running everything. When asked to give any example of any person who is apart of this conspiracy, he crumbles and calls David "viscous" for some reason. @davidwheeler6699 Respect for his guest? David may be right that his audience is too dense to get it but I am pretty sure that he himself is smart enough to be engaging in demagoguery knowingly and intentionally. Vivek says the government is run by a bureaucratic machine and David is pressing and pressing for names? This is the very point of a bureaucratic machine that there are no names that matter, duh!!! What Vivek says is that it's the setup, the system, the machine that runs things, and that the individuals who happen to hold this or that position at any given time are utterly replaceable, exchangeable, and simply irrelevant. With his pressing for names, what David is trying to do is to obscure the point and prevent it from penetrating the minds of his audience. To anybody who is intellectually and psychologically secure enough to not fear exposure to ideas that may be new to them, I highly recommend the book Parkinson's Laws and Other Studies in Administration by C. Northcote Parkinson. It is a hilariously funny, eminently readable (and surprisingly thin) book explaining how bureaucracies work, and why they inevitably work that way. This was an exceptionally disapointing interview. Vivek followed the classic Trump/Troll playbook of politely saying 100 false things, and the host managing to push back on a handful. Net effect is that Vivek's nonsense isn't actually addressed; instead, it's platformed by Pakman. The politness makes it _worse_ not better, because it emotionally feels like they saying reasonable things, but Vivek often is not; the appropriate reaction would be slamming the door in his face; i.e. cutting of the interview and explanation the deception in detail.

Trump is every bit as mentally SHARP as he's ever been.
On the other hand ... the same absolutely CAN'T be said - at least honestly - of Biden.
"Trump is every bit as mentally SHARP as he's ever been." - Based on an anecdote from Vivek, who will absolutely benefit from being on Trump's good side. Please. It also assumes Trump was mentally sharp to begin with. There is plenty of video evidence to the contrary (Couldn't find Rudy Giuliani in the room even though he was sitting NEXT TO HIM, said, "the ORANGES of the investigation" then repeated "Oranges" a second time as a clarification, etc. etc.).
That's definitely not true unless your implying trump has always been confused and deranged....
No one is as mentally sharp as they were 4/5 years ago in their senior years. Trump is a few years younger than President Biden, if President Biden is too old then so is Trump if you're being honest.
@@Eric.Mercado - It's quite obvious you never spend any time observing either man on television. Oooof! David “Fudge” Pakman got owned!
The septum-pierced undergrad who dares you to have a difference of opinion on Gaza being an “open-air prison.” The cat-lady aunt who dares you to say otherwise on the “threat to democracy” (anyone who disagrees with her, ie. you). The 30-something cuckold who dares you to have the wrong answer to his intrusive query of who “got their booster.”
They say what they want with impunity.

@@alexanderrrcanalesss Last reply, because you must just be trolling. I was giving examples of his world building, that he uses to say his rhetoric.
He's all backwards, justifying his ideas with blanket beliefs about the world he never bothers to prove or frankly explain.
These are my observations about his rhetoric and interview style. You don't have to agree with my analysis, cheers.

Respect for his guest?
The worst that can happen reading the book is getting a few good laughs.

This kind of interviewing style perpetuates the toxic conman style of politician.
As a wise man once said: "We're doing a class action lawsuit against all machines." Mike walked, so Vivek could run.
