    Hey everyone! I hope you are enjoying the first episode of 2018! I got many more planned out for this year, and some of them will take us along to some very exciting destinations! Many thanks to Shaun for spending two days with us on the Stamp River. If you would like to give this a go, get in touch with Murphy Sportfishing in the next couple of months as it is prime time for winter steelhead. :) Thanks everyone for watching!

      We're pretty spoiled here for sure. The coastal streams offer steelhead fishing throughout the winter and you can still travel a couple of hours east to do some ice fishing.

    Is it a west coast thing to turn the clicker on when you hook a fishon the pin? I fish mainly the Lake Ontario tribs on the east coast and if someone turns the clicker on you kind of look like you have 3 heads.

    How do you tell the difference between a big rainbow trout in a river and a steelhead? I know that steelhead are andromous but how do you tell the difference by looking at them?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  6 років тому

      Kyle, the biggest rainbow trout found in these coastal systems are usually still smaller than the smallest steelhead (but there are exceptions of course), so size would be the first characteristic you use to tell the difference. Resident rainbows are generally much more spotted as well, while steelhead, especially newly arrived fish, have the two-toned metallic colours with spots not as visible. The morphology of both can also be different. Because their diet is very different, steelhead tend to be more slender, more streamline, while rainbow trout in rivers are shorter and broader. These are just general guidelines to go with, so you can't use exact measurements to tell the difference. By looking at more fish over time, you'll be able to tell right away after awhile. :)

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  3 роки тому

      These are not salmon, they are steelhead. Wild steelhead are required to be released while hatchery steelhead like the last fish in this video can be kept.

    Any way to fish the stamp from shore?

    • @gashacker1
      @gashacker1 6 років тому

      Yes! Yes! Google the Greenmax trail or the Stamp Falls anglers trail. Both will give you kilometers of access to good fishing. There are also several places to drive to an walk less distance. Just look at the Google map and give it a try! Good luck!

    is using Rubber eggs banned in that river?? and well as Bait ???

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  6 років тому

      Rubber eggs can be used anywhere, but in bait ban sections, they cannot be scented. In this particular system, the upper section has a bait ban in effect, while bait is allowed in the lower section. Our bait are defined as both natural bait such as worm, shrimp, eggs, etc, and artificial presentations that are scented.

    • @italiantroutaholic8926
      @italiantroutaholic8926 6 років тому

      so Unscented rubber eggs with a touch of yarn or sparkle would not work??? instead of a hard bead???
