I LOVE BODYSLIMS. I am someone who has had a lifetime (50 yrs) of disordered eating, has tried practically every diet out, and have been in and out of clinical settings for disordered eating. Bodyslims is the first program that is helping me to rebuild my relationship with myself and by extension, my relationship with food. Even though calories are counted, the focus is not the calories.

I havent watched the video yet. But as a woman who has done Bodyslims, i will have to say yes, it does. It has transformed my mind and my belief in myself. It explained how i got myself into my morid obesity and it helped me understand that it was my responsibility to get myself out of it. It helped me understand the importance of changing behaviors and staying mindful in the day. It was life changing for me. I didn't follow the recommended 2 week meal. I did my own thing ... i took 3 sessions and now i am doing my own thing. I would encourage anyone to take at least 1 session of body slims. Itll transform your complex relationship with food. You also get weekly siminars, daily videos, emails throughout the week, a daily song, so much info. I wonder has she even purchased the program

I'm glad you found it beneficial. However, there have been many slimming groups before this which claim similar results. But when you look at the 'success rates' - the numbers are poor. BodySlims falls into this same category - promising great results without out the data to show it.

I did bodyslams in September 2024, I started at 237 and I am now 181, I have lost 56 pounds, BodySlims is not about food but about your mindset around food, the mental side of how we think about food. I am not bashing your video, I just wanted to say as a 52 year old woman that has struggled with weight all of my life, this is the first time I have had more than a 20 pound weight loss and have kept it off.
I wish you luck with your channel and I hope you challenge yourself by giving Bodyslims a try and coming back with an update to this video, I'm sure your watchers would respect your full efforts to understand this programme by going beyond the information you saw on the website and testimonials by placing yourself in the researchers chair and gathering your own hypothesis first hand.
It has been a life changer for me as well as many others.
    Thank you and Take care.

It’s a shame you didn’t do the programme. It’s very different to slimming clubs and so much more than diets. You get so much help changing your thoughts around healthier eating and other habits that it almost feels effortless at times. It helps you change your mindset which is everything.
I’ve done one cycle. Imperfectly, I might add because I was travelling almost half the time and have some health issues which made the walking difficult for me. However, I still lost half a stone in weight at a time when I normally would put on weight ! I was travelling but still felt motivated to make healthier choices 80% of the time. I am delighted!
What is more, the programme has ended and we are nearly at Christmas but I still want to carry on. Just about to meet my daughter in town - for some quality time with her and I’ll get my walk in and have a healthy lunch.
AND I’m looking forward to it. 😊How did that happen?! The answer was Bodyslims for me.
I will do another cycle as I want to improve my health and losing weight and improving my diet will help me with the underlying health issues.
The before and after photos are inspiring for most people. Especially when you do your own. 😊

Bodyslims made me to start my own journey of weight loss. I sticked to 1400 kcal and tried to walk everyday. But my biggest achievement was not related to the program. I did 36 hrs fastings, weight lifting and cardio. Lost from 115kg to 94kg in 2,5 months. For me this program was starting point, the rest is always upon us. I will keep going with weightlifting and 1400 calories as my target weight is 65kgs.

What a stupidly pointless video. Admits herself that this wasn't in any way a scientific look at the program, then at the end says that it's about more than just the losing weight, but about acceptance and working on ones self to find out the 'why' behind their weight issues to begin with. IF YOU DID ANY RESEARCH INTO THIS PROGRAM YOU'D UNDERSTAND JUST HOW MUCH OF IT IS ACTUALLY CENTRED AROUND THAT! Seriously, I've never done BodySlims. I only found out what it was by following HalfOfCarla, but having watched a lot of her content, along with the videos she did with her sister (who also lost weight and kept it off using BodySlims) and the Q&A's she's done with Gerard, I know just how much inner work goes into helping people find out what their reasons for gaining weight, holding on to it, not being able to lose it or keep it off. Those who have done this program will tell you that after their having done WeightWatchers or SlimmingWorld or any other number of weight-loss programs, it was all the extra stuff ASIDE FROM THE FOOD that allowed them to find a solution that didn't just work, but has allowed them to keep weight off for years.
But then I wouldn't expect much from a registered dietician, when so many of them are utterly inept, think that the food pyramid is gold standard, and like this woman, are overweight themselves. Maybe do the work yourself before thinking you're best placed to help others. And by the work, of course I mean more than just eating a bit less every day.

You have no idea what you are talking about. You have not done the program. The "diet" is not the focus of the program. Rather, it is behavioral change. You're right in that normally I give a more detailed break down in these videos as to whether or not the diet/ programme I explore is a diet or not. Newer diets tend to pretend not to be diets because they know that the 'success' rates of diets/ weight loss programmes are poor. Body Slims surprised me by the fact that it is quite openly a diet that is about calorie control - which meant I didn't have to focus as much on proving it is a diet.

@@thatirishdietitian I can see why anything that is extreme or temporary can be problematic, but for people for whom emotional eating is the main reason they are overweight, dealing with this is key. That is what makes Bodyslims different. I knew more or less what to do, but the problem has always been sticking with it long enough to see a difference and feeling in control again. There is so much support in Bodyslims. I’ve never seen another program, trainer, or dietitian that was able to provide the support I needed. Thank you, I appreciate the attention you put into this video. I am 6 yrs sober from alcohol. It is suggested at the start of that program of recovery, to attend 90 meetings in 90 days. The mindset is to dismantle a habit and create/ build new ones. Acceptance, willingness and emotional sobriety are a skill achieved through practice. There is a program of recovery for overeaters that is free, meets world wide, all time zones, via zoom, and address's what BodySlims states. I applaud 👏the business savvy of the founder. The diet industry is a billion dollar one that succeeds by tapping into the vulnerability of human beings who have spiraled into the depths of hopelessness. Another name for that is "Rock Bottom." I am a testimonial. Having been overweight my entire life, bullied, laughed at, called fatso, my thinking was not right. Surrendering my addiction to alcohol and food, to a power greater than myself, (I call that power God, you may choose as you wish) was and is the gateway to freedom. Peace and gentleness toward all. 💌

But at the end of the day it is a scientific reality that a calorie deficit is required to lose weight. I understand that other aspects of being human can get in the way of this, but you cannot deny this fact. I haven't done Bodyslims, but it sounds like the power of the program lies in the calorie counting approach in conjunction with exercise, and psychological support (a huge part of success in weight loss). Some hunger is going to be a reality when losing weight, but there is a way to have a calorie deficit that minimises hunger using nutrient dense, fibre rich and calorie dilute foods. As a 50 year old woman, I know this is the way.

Of course Body Slims works because its a calorie reduction diet. The hour of exercise is also a good thing to encourage people to do. However, its madness to think that body slims is anything new and different from what has been around for years.
If someone is happy to keep to the Bodu Slim program good look to them. Anything that helps people lose excess fat is good and there is definitely no crazy foods or diet plan in Body Slims.
But unfortunately most people will regain the weight lost if they stop the program within 1 to 5 years.
People should remember Body Slims is just another business whos purpose is to make a profit.

I know someone who joined and the program has a walking element, the more walking the better, the other thing is everyone is told when starting how many calories to be consuming when starting. I am on the email list and I get the what seems to be helping the clients/members is Cognitive Behavior messages and maybe ACT which is used to break addictions. No one seems to talk about this strategy and Noom uses it also but I do not think they are as successful. I have noticed the members do seem to add on a few lbs between the programs. So end up spending a fortune. But it works. You do have to do prep work and make a plan to lose and that part is up to you. This is it in a nutshell I believe. I could be wrong but do not think so. I am not sure how the members however keep it off after they stop purchasing the programs. I hope they are not gaining it back slowly. I do not think this lady as looked into it as deep as I have. I would actually love to try it but not spending that much money over and over.

Really not impressed with the program after trying it. Of course some people are successful, but for me, the successes were minimal and not long-term results.

Doesn't every business do the same. They promot the success. Other wise they wouldn't last long. As a dietitian i presume you tell of your success with clients and don't talk much about the clients that didn't succeed for what ever reasons.

I've lost 130 lbs on my own, without medication, surgery, strict programs etc.
I've just learned about bodyslims from today, but it seems like most people are learning about it from others who found it successful.
And the main arguments against it are coming from ... overweight dieticians

Thank you for raising awareness on this topic!
The stories we can see in the comments basically show how anecdotes of one's success can be used to deny possible flaws in the system. And if anyone missed it: this video is not about this program specifically but rather about restrictive diets in general while leaning on the example.
And as far as what I read about the program being the motivator to keep going by checking in daily (I'm guessing by automated messages?)... Doesn't that mean they kind of tie you to their 'product' to keep you paying?

@@OilBarrenthat is exactly the anecdotal evidence that she critiqued. So no, I am not convinced to change my stands. Good for everyone who succeeded but that is not scientific evidence which is what I always prefer over opinions or experience.

@@deliahanne if you're writing an academic paper it's important to focus on hard statistics obove all else but this is just a tool that people are using to make positive changes so with respect, I think it's not a great idea to dismiss it on that basis without any first hand experience. People are complex and there can be all sorts of reasons why they might not stick with a program, there's no such thing as a 100% foolproof method for anything. I've tried other similar programs that I just couldn't stick with, this one feels effortless in comparison. This was a welcome shock for me!
I have ADHD and have struggled with mental health issues all my life, meaning I have had more difficulty than most in being consistent and sticking with a plan to see something through, even things I'm really passionate about. The fact that I found BodySlims much easier to commit to and stay engaged with than other programs is worth highlighting, given my lifelong struggles in this area.
The frustration and the failed attempts grind you down over the years, which compounded my problematic eating and drinking habits over time - this program is actually helping me build myself back up, something that was starting to feel impossible. I can't overstate how much of a shift this is causing, my beliefs about what I'm capable of are changing.
The issue I have with this critique is that it's incomplete, it doesn't even acknowledge the most important factor of the program, the education on the psychology that can lead to bad eating habits, and the practical help it provides in claiming some agency to adjust this automatic process for a better outcome. This is the absolute key difference!
You can dismiss my anecdotal account if you like, that's your business but for the sake of €250 I would have otherwise spent on crap food and alcohol, I'm so glad I tried it.

The ONLY way to lose weight is by calorie deficit, how actually else could you possibly lose it??
Unless you take drugs to help you stop consuming the calories.
    There is no other way.
    This is hilarious 🤣

What's making people really lose the weight is walking an hour every day, not the program. Most people who are obese don't exercise at all. Good video. Thanks.
