Cool Bass. I’ve owned $ 2k + basses, and I’ve owned $ 500 basses. I’ve learned that it’s the player and the feel, not the expense of the gear. This bass is a great bass. No matter the price, no matter what the headstock says. It’s not a great bass “for the money”. It’s a great bass.
Just got mine today and I LOVE it ! Asked them to throw a set of flats on it - sounds amazing. Instantly my favorite bass to play now. This is a no-brainer if you’re on the fence about buying one. Big thanks to Anthony for this demo and for answering my questions and getting this bass to me so quickly. Empire Music has a new customer now !
Got mine in White blond today, I own a custom Shop Precision 1959 and an american Ultra Jazz Bass and this Baby easily keeps up with them! ❤️ I do highly recommend it! Such a beast!
I’ve just bought one of these, the craftsmanship is insane, amazing fret job, perfect finish, incredible neck profile. So playable. Went into the shop tried everything up to a 2k budget (and willing to spend up to that) and walked out with this bass. It’s amazing. 🤩
Still my favorite review from Anthony to this day!! The timing is impeccable on his grooves and has so much style. Keep doing your thing man, much support.
Had my eye on these for a while now and finally got one last month! One of the original butterscotch China ones! These are some of the best basses ever made!! Can play any style of music!! If it ain't Baroque don't fix it!
I just bought one of these. It's absolutely killer. There's no need for any upgrades, fit and finish is good, and fretwork and nut is good. Once you set it up, it's good to go. Amazing what you can get for so little money. It's not 'good for the money', it's just plain good.
Just bought one of these from your shop. What a great bass for the money. Love the old school growl. I continue to be impressed by the CV line. I have four of them now. Amazing value.
I just got one, sanded the neck, took off the scratch plate as it’s too white looking needs to darken, and this bass is a workhorse, really bright and punchy sound and a really versatile tone control for such a small pickup it’s LOUD
Stuart Anguish no wiring, just screw holes that aren’t visible from standing distance. The original pickguard is too new and white looking, it would look better if it had an aged effect
Love this bass. Have the same one. Been thinking about upgrading the pickup to seymour duncan but unsure. The stock pickup is pretty awesome it has a little bit of a vintage tone. My 2nd fav. Bass beside my fender p bass.
What a great demo! I love that snarling tone with the treble all the way up. Love this sunburst finish too. I think I’m going to take the plunge on one 😀
Just got one of these. It’s a tone machine, really impressed with the sound and quality from squier. I’d put it up there as on par with player series quality
Thanks Anthony for the vid. I went to buy a $300 used Lake Placid Blue CV50s, and it plays tremendous. I think it's worth much more than what I spent and it's probably the best instrument-related decision I've made in a while.
I wasn't sure because I thought about how cheap pine was as a wood choice, but this changed my mind right away, I own a fender 75th professional 2 and I honestly just want this instead lol
These early p basses where my favorite I have a sting signature that looks just like this one with my favorite finish the tobacco sun burst always loved the maple neck over the rosewood and the amount of gloss finish on the back of the neck makes sliding around the simpler the better was what turns me on you pick one of these up you never want to put it down I play with the bass know all up and treble of and you just get that deep bass sound you can't get on modern basses without a ton of pedals I've never recorded with mine but heard the best studios always have one of these and and amped flip top and they will insist on the.bass player use it even if he shows up with a ten thousand dollar custom job.
I have the squire paranormal jazz and I just got a text from fed ex that my cv 60’s pbass will be here today. I enjoyed your vid on that one but I think the real star of the squire line is this cv 50’s bass. This thing roars! Thanx for your vids. Very helpful. If it weren’t for the fact that my wife would kill me I would get one of these in a heartbeat.
If it was more of the yellow blonde with a black pick guard I'd be all over it! But this sunburst with white is amazing. Looking to get one of these so I don't have to worry about having to gig out with my vintage American J bass.
has anyone done a build comparison between modern squier and 50s Era fender? I bought this bass and only had to do minor adjustments and some fret work. great bass in my opinion
is this the new classic vibe '50s precision? (heard that the original is out of production for a couple of years...) anyway... badass bass and demo. tnx!!
Did anyone try to swap this neck with a Mexican fretless one (pao ferro) ? Would the neck socket fit ? Some people on TalkBass says it’s not working on the Paranormal Jazz 54. Was wondering if this would be the same here…
thank you very much, for this excellent review, thanks to her i already had a bass like this for me, i love the tone with the 50% tone, i would like to hear it also at 65 or 75%, with the pick. a few more days and I already have it in my hands. once again thank you very much. cheers.
How do you compare Classic Vibes to Made in Mexico Fender. I have few fender P and JBass but need something to gig and was thinking in a Classic Vide for live gigs.
Thanks Anthony. I just ordered mine last night lol. 2 color sunburst. I have a 2014 classic vibe 50s p in vintage blonde and its one of my favs. The neck is not tinted so its new looking but i like that old color changed look. Im going to put the vintage fender pre cbs tuners on it as i do with my 2014 nodel. I was hoping the new ones have a split single coil like their descriptions online say. We will see. Its also supposed to have a bone nut!
I’m not a big fan or squiers BUT this bass looks and sounds sick. I might have to pick it up some day. I need a bass with that kind of vintage growly tone.
Depends. I think this one has more to offer. Not just is it the extraordinary look but also the one pickup tone is definitely another sound than the cv pb. (You also can get a little bit of the loud jazzy JB Sound...but it depends on how you play and what your style is) overall it is more versatile and better looking than the 60s PB. (In my opinion :) ) You should play both in a music store near you and decide :) Cheers.
That's an original design feature, early on it was assumed that some players would play with their thumb. The bar could be used to anchor the fingers. Eventually as index-middle finger plucking evolved that bar was moved to the bass side of the strings. Eventually both were somewhat phased out (although not exclusively) except for period-accurate recreations. Thanks for watching - Anthony
Can this model fit the chrome covers on it? I recall the first run of Classic Vibe 50’s P-Basses from several years ago had a slightly different cut to the pickguard so it wouldn’t fit exactly right.
I have a Indonesian made Jazz. It’s nice but the Chinese made Classic Vibes are better made. I have a MIC CV 50’s and it’s great. I have to admit that this looks great and sounds pretty good. Slap some flats and swap the capacitor with a .1uf and it will sound so 50’s for sure!!!
Another great demo. And as usual, in hopes they are listening, I wish Fender/Squier would stop issuing classic basses w/ the ridiculous and ubiquitous "narrow tall" frets and go back to using 6230 actual vintage frets. I love the bass but I really dislike those frets, which is why I bought a 50's Vintera Precision, a great bass w/ proper specs other than the poly finish.
you could probably get a custom made neck from a third party seller with 24 frets but im pretty sure fender/squier doesnt make 5 string p basses and especially doesnt make 5 string 50's style p basses, only 5 string jazz basses
@@jwaj Yes! That and an 18 volt active preamp with a low impedance output, and active treble, middle and bass controls, and you have a 100% authentic '50s P Bass.

Got one for half that. The cost of getting the keys cut. It's amazing how your hairs migrated. "Wonky" means something that does not function. Goes back to WWII Royal air force UK. Same as "Gremlin". Which means the thing that causes the wonkiness.
Anthony: is this one made in China? I have that exact same bass in white blonde finish I bought in 2018 and it's made in China. I heard that the new Squier Telecaster 50's CV basses are now made in Indonesia. I was just curious. Thanks.

This bass with flatwound string on it sound amazing. More punch, less brighter.
