Why turn away young ppl looking for advice/guidance? If they don’t get it from an adult, they’ll just get it from their age group which is worst. Some kids don’t have intelligent adults to seek advice from.

He isn’t giving advice on how to talk to a girl in his class or dealing with the stress or exams. He is giving advice on a potential life or death situation for a child he doesn’t even know. He didn’t say anything about referring him to a crisis line or any kind of mental health professional. This type of stuff is absolutely disgusting.
How's he scamming? He provided what he said he would. A One on One meeting. Now, however good that meeting turned out is up for debate. He should've kept this private though out of respect for the dude and the money he paid him and just out of basic decency above all else.

Better help is about 175 a month,for 4 , 1 hour skype sessions and tons of resources, he could have got 3 months therapy from licensed professionals and not some random youtuber for that smh ridiculous

That. The kid wasn't trying to share anything and got lulled into talking to someone because they said they cared, and convinced the kid that they were a "real" person. Whether or not he actually cared, that's one of those "take to the grave" type conversations. Therapist here. I don't charge that much and with a therapist you get confidentiality, coping practices, and a safe supportive space to work your way out of the situation. I hope this young man is still with us and gets the help that he needs.

I agree. The dislike button had a tiny bit of useful information. It said "not everybody likes this content" and it also possibly served as a warning of empending controversy depending on the ratio of likes/dislikes. Had a psychiatrist or any counselor made this video, their license would have been revoked immediately. A psychiatrist in Georgia lost her license because her patient's husband wanted to know what they were discussing in their weekly sessions and one day the psychiatrist forgot to lock her office door and the husband walked in and took his wife's file from the filing cabinet. He confronted his wife about what was in the file and the wife sued and filed a complaint against the psychiatrist. She ended up losing her license for having a lack of security in her office. HIPPA doesn't play.

A bit of problem lately though is "mental health professionals" giving people the worst advice imaginable and being no better than just getting advice from people on Twitter. I'm not saying all, or even necessarily most of the people in that profession are net-negatives to individuals and society, but there's definitely enough to pump the brakes a bit in terms of saying, "There's such a high ethical standard on them..." Just like teachers and education at every level. Yes, there are a lot of good ones, but also trying to say that there's "such a high ethical standard on them" when so many are at best really shitty teachers and at worst doing things like grooming kids or (accidentally) showing dick pics to their class and not getting fired, but just moved to a different school, is enough to pump the brakes on the broad-brush approach.

Growing up my mom was a dancer, the kids I went to school with found out and teased me about it. It was terrible. My introduction to sex and intimacy was also affected because of the hyper sexual nature of dancing and the environment it brings. I really feel for this young man to disclose something so intimate and embarrassing is challenging,this UA-camr would’ve put me over the edge.

Wow. Had a high school counselor that shared a student’s personal problems as an example during a high school assembly. The counselor felt it was ok, because she didn’t use the students name. People aren’t stupid and some people figured out who the counselor was talking about and word got around. The student attempted to take her own life.

I’m so glad that grew up in the 90s and early 00s. We didn’t have all these ‘gurus’ or ‘influencers’. As a teen, we don’t understand why we shouldn’t reach out to certain people who say they’re here to help. Some teens and kids just want help and to be able to talk to someone. People like him is why I’ve never talked about my childhood trauma and attempts as I grew up. I never want it to used against me. I hope he’s doing okay whenever he may be.

This is really depressing in of itself. Like Aba said, if he had those thoughts before they may have doubled now. Man I felt traumatized watching this clip. I’ve had a few moments in life where hitting a low inspired me to reach out to some kind of celeb who resonated with me but still needed an extra push in life. I have no expectations about reaching out but keep things private is always the way to proceed with sensitive things, esp with a celeb. Most of the time they don’t respond but there’s always a line to not cross on all sides. Self awareness and critical thinking are lacking in a society that is fully connected to the internet where information can be subconscious but you have to be conscious when you filter what comes in and what goes out. The thing is that he probably actually thought he was doing that right thing - that he was helping. People with no experience try to be therapists for the people in their lives without ever being self-aware enough to realize the stakes. Destigmatization of mental illness also includes public awareness; it seems we are aware but still don’t know when to shut up and let a professional intervene, which is not the point we need to be at.

A psychiatrist in Georgia lost her license because her patient's husband wanted to know what they were discussing in their weekly sessions and one day the psychiatrist forgot to lock her office door and the husband walked in and took his wife's file from the filing cabinet. He confronted his wife about what was in the file and the wife sued and filed a complaint against the psychiatrist. She ended up losing her license for having a lack of security in her office. HIPPA doesn't play.

I'm not saying all, or even necessarily most of the people in that profession are net-negatives to individuals and society, but there's definitely enough to pump the brakes a bit in terms of saying, "There's such a high ethical standard on them..."
Just like teachers and education at every level. Yes, there are a lot of good ones, but also trying to say that there's "such a high ethical standard on them" when so many are at best really shitty teachers and at worst doing things like grooming kids or (accidentally) showing dick pics to their class and not getting fired, but just moved to a different school, is enough to pump the brakes on the broad-brush approach.

Growing up my mom was a dancer, the kids I went to school with found out and teased me about it. It was terrible. I really hope that this kid gets help. I can't even begin to imagine the feeling he's going through, although I have been bullied for 2 years straight in my middle school years, for something of this level to get a hold of you I can't even. I truly do hope that this kid gets to help he deserves
$500 seems a lot but remember that he's desperate and the money probably doesn't mean anything to him anymore, which is a really bad sign. One of the tell signs of people on the very last edge is that they start giving away their possessions which this could be a manifestation of.

Man I felt traumatized watching this clip. I’ve had a few moments in life where hitting a low inspired me to reach out to some kind of celeb who resonated with me but still needed an extra push in life. I have no expectations about reaching out but keep things private is always the way to proceed with sensitive things, esp with a celeb. Most of the time they don’t respond but there’s always a line to not cross on all sides. Self awareness and critical thinking are lacking in a society that is fully connected to the internet where information can be subconscious but you have to be conscious when you filter what comes in and what goes out. Sad to hear about this kid
The thing is that he probably actually thought he was doing that right thing - that he was helping. People with no experience try to be therapists for the people in their lives without ever being self-aware enough to realize the stakes. Destigmatization of mental illness also includes public awareness; it seems we are aware but still don’t know when to shut up and let a professional intervene, which is not the point we need to be at.
How many “professionals” have the influence that the majority of the content creators have? The professionals don’t have the opportunity to say anything but something had to be said and someone needs to try. I get that we should leave things to professionals but who ever said he wouldn’t have recommended it as well. The sad thing is that this guy didn't even recognize that this kid has enough money for therapy. $500 definitely gets you a couple sessions with a therapist pretty much anywhere. Suggest that the kid go see a therapist and offer to give him his money back to make it happen. The saddest thing is that this kid was nervous and looking for a connection and this asshole just reinforced that the kid cant trust anybody. People need to learn that it is irresponsible to try to fix people. You aren't qualified.

I feel sorry for the kids with no guidance, whenever I see someone not doing too well I make the effort to talk to them because I know what its like to be all alone and I've had friends who have ended their lives. We need to be a better society and help our youth instead of looking down at them for all their faults. It was us once.

The type of therapy he needs will eventually require that he involve his mother. Either directly through confrontation or indirectly through a moderated forum. Running away from her and who she is will only make him more depressed.
