silage contractor charge around here is 150 euro per acre for the complete job .......more for a long draw .....3 miles or more from clamp. for pit silage .....3 euro to wrap a bale , ......6 euro to bale a bale of silage ..... 25 euro to mow an acre ,

Yeah I didn’t factor in mowing or raking because we’ll do that for both jobs so it’ll be the same. Yeah baling and wrapping is between £8-£9 here. Most chopper drivers charge per hour for all the individual bits of the job. But most people in are area only have the chopper because we’ve all got mowers, rakes, trailers, buckrakes. That’s why they charge by the engine hour.

I would like to see the maths behind round bales costing you £14/ton ( 650 kg bales as an estimate on a high moisture meadow grass 4x5 bale). Using true cost accounting for an average fam round bale hay costs between £80-100 a ton so making silage for around £14 ton seems remarkably low

The £9 a bale is the cost of the contractor to bale and wrap it not the weight. I’ve costed it that way to get an easier sum for the whole block of land. So it’s baling contractor versus chopper contractor price.
