That slim little fella is probably a pregnant female! Can tell by the nipples on their underside. Very hard to sex a squirrel normally. They get quite chunky when preggers. 🐿 😁

Thanks everyone for the kind comments on our squirrel house! Xena is definitely living the good life. To answer a few questions:
1. For those commenting on Xena being chunky by the end of the video and those wondering if she was pregnant, yes, we believe she was pregnant! She is a female squirrel and the prominent nipples are the biggest indicator. She also disappeared for awhile (we believe to take care of her babies) and came back a little slimmer with her nipples still out, likely from nursing.
2. The squirrel house is more of a feeding platform than anything else. It wasn't intended for the squirrels to actually live in since it's too close to the ground for the squirrels to be out of reach of predators. They live in their nests high in the trees and come down for snacks and water, which we put out every day. They also like to sploot on top of the house and the picnic table when it's hot, and hang out in the shadow of the house in the crook of the tree to cool down.
3. The reason it took so long for my girlfriend to build the house was because she scrapped her first attempt after learning a lot of lessons from it and started from scratch on a new design. Also, this is something we were working on in our free time on weekends, and we didn't have time for it every single weekend. My girlfriend also injured her thumb at one point during construction and had to take a break from building for a few weeks until it healed.

I have a regular squirrel that visits and is really brave, he takes peanuts out of people's hands all the time and usually prefers to do that than eat what's been left like he enjoys the interaction

I have a friend in Pennsylvania that has rescued at least 2 very tiny baby squirrels that fell out of the nest. They now live in her house and outside and are wonderful little pets. I'm sending her this. Maybe she can build her friends a house like this??? I just adored this video??
Squirrels are underrated for how cool, funny & smart they really are. Surprisingly fearless too, I see a couple reds near my apartment & they'll take little bits of fruit or nuts right from my fingers.

So nice ! I love Squirrels so much. I use to have one come visit most days. I’d feed him peanuts and sunflower seeds. After a few weeks he’d eat right out my hand .
I found a squirrel last year and nursed his bad foot back to health, we believed he was fighting some sort of infection. After consulting our local vet, we administered meds daily until the pain seemed to leave his body. It took about 5 weeks until the squirrel was completely healthy. To this day, he still comes to our back door looking to see if we are home and to grab a treat and a sip of water. Last week he showed up with his wife. She was cautious at first, but soon took to us as well... I never realized how smart these animals can be when building a relationship. Next time you see a squirrel be kind, or any little critter for that matter.

I can relate 100%. I have several squirrels in my backyard. They are the best part of living here.
I have a Goplus blue lounge chaise chair in the backyard. The squirrels LOVE using it as a trampoline. Lol. They will jump off a nearby tree then bounce off the chair and land near the peanuts. They do it so quick and swiftly. It’s easy to tell they have done it many times before. Every morning I clean the peanut shells off that chair…and by the evening, there are peanut shells on the chair again. I just laugh. Lol.

Great story. We had a family of 3 squirrels live in our yard for years. So adorable to watch. I love your Pride Flag in Texas. You guys are the bestest.
Only 3? Lol. I have one deformed one with no tail and one deformed front leg. I have video of him on YT fortunately. I havee 2 others that don't run or hold their tails right. I make sire they all have easy access to food.
Think of the risk these days of putting up a pride flag in Texas, then releasing a UA-cam video. I equate that with the sort of resistance a lot of us risked in the late 60's against the war, often met with tear gas, clubs, and arrest. Great respect for these women. Think of the squirrels as immigrants. The women gave them food and shelter. Very daring and subversive in Abbot's Texas.👍🏻🙏🌟

This is the cutest video! 🥰 Xena, you have two great moms there. I feed my deer, turkeys, raccoons (I can handfeed them 🦝 😍), birds, squirrels, chipmunks and the occasional fox. It gets pretty expensive but well worth it!

Squirrel houses should have a 3 inch hole on opposite sides. A predator escape hole
A raccoon or any other animal could enter her house as you have it now.
She wont be able to be safe at night in it.
I had my handyman build one from on line squirrel specs. Yours is nice but not safe at all for sleeping quarters
