Since the belt was loose there is a good chance the alternator wasn't charging so the battery may have been low when you were trying to restart. A low battery won't allow the starter solenoid to make good contact, so won't engage the starter. So you should be good. Also, you can make a heat shield if you're concerned about the starter getting heat soaked. You can make a heat shield out of the metal from a can of beans or a tasty beverage can. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
The algorithm sent me here when you guys picked up the boat. I'm glad it did. I will have to say though, the government contract in Wyoming has me interested in knowing more about that. Looking forward to hearing some about you guys side jobs in the future hopefully to give me a bit of inspiration to try some new things myself.
Love that you guys jumped into sailing and are explaining as you go. It was a great video and that was my old stomping grounds, love that part of the east coast. One positive and one constructive criticism. Love the shots of sailing remember that is what we landlocked folks are here for. Two be careful of your words about someone’s backyard, Georgetown might be a little berg, but it’s somebody’s little berg. Love the channel show some of Wyoming it’s another favorite spot of mine. Thanks
So cool you guys were in Georgetown. I live about 20 minutes north on the coast from where you were. That inlet coming into Georgetown is notorious for high winds and heavy chop, but the whole coast there really is beautiful. So excited to see what sailing adventures the future holds!
Your channel is so exciting. I love sailing. I am still a rookie myself, so it is so much fun to see you two learning as you go. Well edited videos and excellent commentary make your videos perfect for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Thoroughly enjoying your channel. For whatever reason, I was never recommended your channel by UA-cam until you began sailing. I suppose because I'm subscribed to several sailing channels. Anyway, I'm enjoying watching y'all grow in experience sailing, overcoming fears while learning about your boat and simply enjoying life's adventure. Stay Awesome! < fist pump >
Good to see you always upgrading your boat with safety equipment. We were concerned about your safety when the engine stopped running. Then the waves getting larger. Good to have a competent mechanic on board. I don’t think you can call AAA when something goes wrong. Congratulations again on your chosen new life. Still waiting for my new hat to purchase 😊
Love the channel. Thank you so much for the great videos. Me and my wife are saving right now to start our dream of sailing the world. Dream boat so far is a 1260, fingers crossed though for a 1270 (if Seawind will make it).
When you talking to us about the engine, your outfit was perfect with the original Mad Max. LoL 😂🤣 Also, it is very good idea to always discuss with each other the pro/con of the trip. We did that on our boat and kept a journal. Happy sailing ⛵
Loved the views of entering the inlet at Southport. That's where I sea trialed my boat before purchasing it. Not a sailboat, but a 24' center console. The algorithm just popped up your channel earlier tonight and I've been binging your videos from the point you first moved into your sailboat.
Going through what you went through in this video and knowing you concord it all is an amazing feeling that deserves a few great beverages at the end of the day. Pretty awesome for you guys. Share some shots of the windex every now and then. ❤❤
Bravo, This is all soo awesome!! So thrilled to see what you guys are up to weekly. I have watched every video since Goose got the pop top conversion, several many times over. I am interested in small vehicle overland and medium catamaran adventure. I was looking for Peru material when I found you guys. You have lead me around on quite an amazing adventure so far. I am more than excited that you are forging a new course in another of my interests. Fabulous content, great delivery, awesome humor! On the humor thought, I am surprised that there was not a reference to Bill Murray "I'm Sailing!". Take care, Dwayne
Enjoy y'all channel. I was just watching Tula endless summer and they have a Seawind and had engine overheating issues also. Y'all found belts to be the issue but they're problem was with the water intake filters. Billy said it was a bad design so y'all may want to check that when y'all get back to the boat. Enjoy your day SV Lost Cajun, Duane and Kim
Some years ago my seawater intake clogged with debris and caused my engine to over heat. Just something else to always check ❤ . I really enjoy following along on your adventures.
Another awesome adventure. I really enjoy seeing the different ports. The waves looked pretty scary, I'm glad you made it safe and sound. Always looking forward to the next one. Safe travels!
I love the videos and your sense of adventure, not only in travel but also in trying and learning new things. I've just discovered your channel, so I don't know much about you two. I got a few questions if you don't mind. * Did you have any marine/sailing experience before taking this on? * How did you learn so much about your boat and sailing so quickly? * Tim, I'm pressed with your knowledge of the engines and ancillary boat systems and how well you repair and maintain them. Do you have a mechanical background, self-taught, or what? Thanks for taking the time to respond! Sunil
I have a Freightliner Detroit deisel. Anytime it under a heavy load climbing through the rockies I cut off ACand start watching the Temps, at around 225 degrees the coolant system starts running g coolant through the engine until it cools to about 200 degrees, hope this helps I know uts not a boat buts it's sort of similar
I didn’t hear you mention this, but if you’re not aware, plowing through a wind-against-tide situation is generally to be avoided, particularly over a bar.
That spot in georgetown there were a few other boats and then there are plenty of spots listed on apps like navionics, we are always watching our depth meter and looking around for anything that could be a hazard and then you have to judge the hold which really depends what's on the bottom.
Greetings from the Gold Coast, Australia 🇦🇺 Really enjoy your show, you guys obviously have some strong DIY & mechanical skills, do you think it would be realistic to do what your doing, without that skill set? I suspect if a person with no experience were to buy a boat like yours, learning to sail is probably the east part, as you could start off with easy passages in good weather, and build from there. But it seems fixing everything that breaks would be the challenge.
@@SaltySunriseSailing I bet! I’ve owned a few smaller turbo diesel vehicles, and you always had to watch the egt gauge like a hawk up climbs! Slow going travel haha
keep up the work! rly enjoying your boat life

You guys are doing it. Good job.
Such great content. Inhaling salt water is probably a good change from the Baja silt. Keep inspiring!

You two!!! Thanks for sharing.
I need more videos... :)
Well taking a land brake is not a bad thing lol
For us non boat people, it could be fun to have some terminology explained (like what sales are what, etc.)
I love seeing alligators in the water!
OK so how do you determine where you can anchor overnight in a port?

You can always learn, but it certainly gives us an advantage coming in with those skills. Makes everything just a little less overwhelming haha.
Is there a grand travel plan or piecing it together as you go & learn the boat? ⛵️ 🪿
A little of both. We have some big dreams but also know it's best to go with the flow.
I would be more concerned with EGT. Little diesels get hot in a hurry
@@sarahdell4042 with no turbo EGT's are a non issue.
@@SaltySunriseSailing Learn something new everyday!
We had a lot of EGT issues on our turbo diesel Land Cruiser climbing mountains. It would melt metal. 😬🤣

Big fan of your channel but just curious why you’re leaving safe harbor on a strong incoming tide?
It was an outgoing tide actually, we were only fighting it once we turned back. Thanks for watching!
Suggestion: You should change the name of your tender so that when someone sees your tender at the dock, they know that you are away from your boat.
