I rebuilt a nearly identical bandsaw, 32" wheels. Had to dig it out of a dirt field. tablke was warped and I made a wooden one. Running fine for 20 years now.
Nice! I love those old Babbitt bearings with replaceable components. Most machines made nowadays (in the US at least) aren't made to be easily fixed. A lot of times if you have bearing problems you will have to buy a whole housing rather than being able to replace one part and move on.
Matthias, I often find that the set/grub screws used to lock the key in the keyway will loosen up over time. I replace one longer set screw with 2 shorter ones. The second one locks the first one in the hole and keeps the first one from loosening up.
Beautiful bandsaw. I believe the Babbitt on the lower housing wore out because the motor's RPM's are too fast for the machine. It was made to run at very low RPM. Babbitt gets too hot at high RPM and begins to break down. I can tell that old machine is in good hands and I wish you luck on the rest of the repairs.
One thing about the motor, to save the bearings when using this type of driving belt, i got a tip on using a separate axle on 2 bucklayers/bocklager, (English word here? Those Beraings on cast iron stands.) so the motor internal bearings can work in a symetrical load weight all the time instead of assymetrical load as when direct connected to the driving wheel with a flat drivingbelt. But it´s not nessesary if You goning to use a central driving shaft with similar function.
Wow that is one beast of a bad saw! I love old tools I just don't have room for them. I also repaired my bandsaw because it was broken, but I didn't have to do nearly as much work as you had to do
what a monster of a machine! nice video, I hope you do well on the repairs. by the way, I have some acquitances here in the Netherlands who also wear this traditional "farmers handkerchief" as they call it here, just like you do. just thought it was nice that you wear this. greetings.
Ouch. That is a pity on the upper shaft and how bad the bearings disintegrated from poor oil maintenance on the lower! Glad they were able to weld the diameter of the upper shaft and hopefully you can replace the lower one bearings! Wonder what is wrong with the old electric motor?
You will have to learn how to pournBabbit bearings and scrape them. The pulley arangment you mention would be called a "jack Shaft in America. I am 78 we had a, sawmill and machine shop ,with most machines being run by a single engine. Some driven by overhead shafting arrangements and some through in floor shaft alleys. Electric motors run in an end shaft method promots the oposite bearing to wear. There is also electrical arcing within the bearing which causes pitting and premature failure.
If the bearing isn't loose after cleaning, you may be able to scrape it and run without pouring a new one. If the bearing is worn enough to be loose, you'll have to pour a new one. It's not hard.
The bearing definitely is loose. The shaft has already grinded into the housing where the shaft goes into it. In the moment I'm preparing to pour a new bearing.
Hallo, ich hab mir gestern genau die selbe Bandsäge gekauft wie kann ich mich mit ihnen in Verbindung setzen ? Haben sie vielleicht noch ein paar Zeichnungen ? Gruß marco paul
Love your machine and your videos. In case you don't know, those are babbit bearings, you will have to pour new babbit bearing material on those supports. Look up Keith Rucker channel on youtube, he as many videos on the subject. Good luck.
The two bandsaw videos are a couple of my favorite on the entire internet. So entertaining and informative.

Just saw this old video of yours Matthias! Wonderful stuff! Now on to the second part! Grüsse aus Belgiën
Another informative well made video. Hope you get your bandsaw working soon!
What a wonderful old machine. As always I enjoy very much your videos and I look forward to the next installment. Best of luck
What a beautiful bandsaw. Excellent repair so far. Cant wait to see you button it up!
Thank you for this video. It just helped me with a similar bearing.

Love the saw. A very well done video with great production values. Nice work!
Good luck, we are pulling for you!

Such great videos; thank you so much for sharing with the world.
Cool lube system on the bearings
Love the video (and the saw, in some respects) but give me a Jet/Delta/PM bandsaw in working order any day.
Hi You are very bright. Thanks for your Great videos.
Hallo ich bin auf der Suche nach diesen schwarzen schienen (zur Justierung/Ausrichtung des Motors) wo finde ich so etwas. Danke für die Antwort

Totally entertaining, but you get too much done, while I am mesmerized and unproductive! Thanks a lot!

Nice upper wheel repair.
Geiler Kanal!!
Keep up the cool work!

what about the Danckaert moulder ?
German engineering ,you can't beat it!
Very interesting and enjoyable video.. Thank you.
Can you even get blades this big anymore?

je laat helaas veel te wijnig zien !
love that saw. I would just re-pour the Babbitt in the bottom bearing.
Yes, that seems to be the easiest way. I will try to find out which metal was used und learn how to pour that Babbit.
Matthias Burger
Look up Keith Fenner Text Book Babbitt Pour on youtube. He shows how its done. Babbit is called Lagermetall in German.
Matthias Burger lots of great information on that here. its a lots easier than you think.

6:58 good call, man.
it will be worth it in the end
Your videos are a breath of fresh air. beautiful band saw. on yor first video of your wood band mill, what happened to video number 2?
No number 2 so far. I'll make one when there is something new to tell about the band saw mill.
Now that's a "REAL" bandsaw. You could mill logs with that thing.
Now I see German machines were always made so precisely
These old neglected machines probably need all their bearings checked, cleaned or repaired regardless.
Viel Glueck mit der Reparatur!
ωραίο μηχάνημα!
wow that motor is way to fast belt driven tools are normaly driven at 250 to 300 rpm.s
It will last another hundred years with new bearings..
Great job, sorry for your misfortune, but I'm sure you'll find a way!
Ha! ich hab die gleiche Bandsäge :)
6 kilosubs!
könntest du das bitte auf deutsch machen! :-)
