  • This is a long one so brew a pot of tea or coffee and settle in, for my fourth and hopefully final attempt at making a scarf in the style of the Fourth Doctor.
My last one (made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who) was eaten by moths, this one was made to wear in time for the 60th anniversary last year but I am afraid editing all the footage into a video had to wait until now so I hope you enjoy it.
All the Scarf Pattern and knitting information can be found here at www.doctorwhosc... I am absolutely indebted to this site for its treasure trove of information and advice.

Same, though it's been so long I don't remember how to do any knitting at all, and was never able to teach my stupid hands how to purl, which is why I switched to crocheting 30 years ago... but Tom Baker is my husband's favourite Doctor...

@@bunhelsingslegacy3549 Oooh, cursed snow removal equipment is some seriously bad mojo. Glad you got it replaced. Personally I'm having feelings about the birds starting to set their first nests in the beginning of March. Gosh the weather's been this side of everything.
I don't remember her name, but my favourite companion was the lady with the dark hair and the leather outfit. Also loved K9. I remember wanting to go to Radio Shack and buy a sawdering iron and (somehow) magically build my own...
I never learned crochet (outside of upkeep on my dreadlocks, lol). My impulse would be to sew the scarf... find a bunch of vintage sweaters in the right colour ways, stitch them together and give it a lining.

I knitted two scarves as a teenager out if messy cheap yarn scraps which where fun but ultimately not very warm. 10 years ago I knitted a nicer version with mostly wool yarn but still buying odd balls out the bargain baskets. Now in it 4th iteration I went for the hood yarn. I must say it has made a very good quality scarf that is great to wear without the Doctor Who context. All of that is a very long winded way of saying it’s always worth the wait and knitting it when your ready/able.

My thumbnail looks pixelated to everyone as I am hopeless at making them and don't know how to do it properly. I went on Canva and made a slightly better one today. It's just yet another element of video making that I am rubbish at I am afraid.

When I knit, I cant even hold my yarn to tension, I’ve tried and it feels wrong. But i can hold to tension when I crochet so its weird. As someone who is 5’ I would never be able to have the scarf at original length.😅

You can tension with the same hand as you would crochet. I struggle with crochet due to the other hand, and it always feels too loose!

I hold my crochet like knitting and am very bad at it. Its very interesting what hands can and can't learn.

@@stanceymackenzie holding the crochet hook as though it was a pen gives freedom of movement. The secret to crochet is to move the hook more than your wrist. Knitting is more static.

I always wanted a Dr Who scarf but never did knit one. I am 75 now and wonder if I should go ahead -I wear waterproof jacket and trainers - it won't match. Does that matter?

Definitely make one if that is something you like. I personally feel they go with absolutely everything and anything.
