Upgrading the mk5 VW Golf GTI chassis and brakes!!

- Hi all,
another video on the mk5 VW Golf GTI & this was far from easy. Carrying out this type of work outside has its challenges, even for a mechanic but words can not explain what it has been like for a DO IT YOURSELF kind of guy like me. It is unfortunate that the weather took a turn for the worst as soon as I received all of the upgrade parts. In my eagerness to get them all installed, I did not anticipate any problems but everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong😅🤣.
Anyway the upgraded parts are now fitted to the car but I have not had the chance to take it out for a spin yet. Stay tuned for my first impression🙂.

You need to hit the lower control arms with a wire wheel to knock off surface rust. Then apply a product like POR15. Works well. UK cars get crushed with rust
you need to use a different nut for the ball joint the part number is WHT000785 because the alloy hubs and steel hubs use different ones
@muhammadkhan3557 yes good shout mate, I'm ahead of you on this one. I upgraded these nuts along with a few other parts some time back. Thanks bro👍🏿
Its beginding too look good 😮😮
@jihadiijoe thank you very much👍🏿
Thanks for the great vid joe keep up the good work looking mint 👌
It has been tough one but thank you very much 👍🏿
Brilliant work looking amazing
All your hard work is paying off
It’s going to make it a pleasure and fun to drive. Superb Vdub:)
Thank you
@jonathonbrett-qn1ic thank you very much. I seriously can not wait to get it out on the road👍🏿
get the tyrol sport dead set kit i have a spare one if you’re interested
I bought a dead set kit & I could not get it to fit but my car is sorted without using the kit.👍🏿
What a transformation Joe the hard work has paid off , your car is stunning 👌👋👋
@smallmick6586 thank you very much👍🏿
Nice job
Thank you! Cheers!
Bushings should always be torqued with the car on the ground and suspension loaded. Otherwise they are going to twist and wear out really fast
@diogo1966 good advice, makes a lot of sense & will bare this in mind. I can only compromise as a DIYer.🙂👍🏿
@@aguycalledjoe7802 same here. Just learning as I go a long
need new bolts for the control arms there stretch bolts
@adellisdevelopmen6593 yes I used all new bolts👌🏿.
@@aguycalledjoe7802 hood wasnt sure most people dont
Nice job thanks fir the information what would you say the problem is with mk5 loosing coolant???
@craennefh2689 if you can not find the coolant leak in the obvious places then you might have what i would describe as the coolant leak from hell 🙈
I am trying to fit them same brakes to my mk5 GTI but having problems with the the rear caliper carrier not being able to tighten down due to the carrier hitting the disk before it’s tight do you think you could help me by giving a link from where you got the rear disks from or a part number I think they might of gave me the wrong disk thanks 👍
Hi @yusuferdinc8922, sorry I don't think I can help you with this one because I bought my disc & calipers from a guy who was breaking a car
@@aguycalledjoe7802 thank you anyway 👍
Which make of deadset kit gave you the issues ?
@Newb_S I do not want to call the manufacture out because I might not have installed the kit properly at the time but it is listed in the description in the part 1 video if you want to take a look? I hope this helps.👍🏿
How much do you think you saved on labour
🤣🤣 probably not as much as I would like to think but I did this more for the experience. Some parts of job I liked more than others🙂
