I think it would depend on what things you want to see and reasons that you want to see them. If you are coming strictly as a tourist to see the tourist attractions then you might try one of the local tours either by a double decker bus, a hop on-hop off tour bus or maybe hire a "pulmonia" driver tour for a couple of hours. This way you will get to see and hear about the local attractions and then you can decide which ones you would like to check out in depth. If your purpose is to check things out to make a long term move then your agenda might include one of these tours and maybe a visit to a local realtor. There are 3 main areas that you probably want to explore: The Central Historic (Downtown) District, The Malecon from Olas Altas to the Golden Zone and the Zona Dorada (Golden/Tourist Zone). Each area offers a different experience and together they present a pretty good picture of life here in Mazatlan.
The season began earlier in October and runs thru December and into January if playoffs are involved. Last year the Mazatlan Venados went to the league Championship Series which concluded in early January. Tickets can be purchased online or at the stadium box office. Go to Mazatlan Venados website and it should have info on the schedule and ticketing info. Get ready for an exiting evening if you decide to go to a game....it is very entertaining!
