I agree the patchwork gets lost in the combination with the fire fabric. I’d love to see the skirt in the black and white cotton check. The patchwork fabric is lovely and deserves to shine!
Thank you! yes! I love the patchwork fabric, I made the bigger panel months ago! I was saving it for the right project. I do still have quite a bit of the black and white, I might put it in the form and see if I like it, thank you for giving your opinion!, I appreciate it! 😁❤️
Love the gingham dress! Like all your beautiful work- and yes, I also think the Ankara takes over your patchwork. I’d go with a solid, and I am tempted to say try it with a white solid, even if you’ve been dreaming of black solid. I am keen to see what you make of it. Thank you for your generous sharing . ❤
Thank you lovely!, I have worn the gingham dress a few times now but I haven't finished the patchwork one yet! white is interesting It will probably look good but I am not sure I would wear it. I make sure to post here when it is done! 😁❤️
You could make the skirt out of black and put the bright fabric inside of pleats. That way, when you move, it shows off the color without being too much.
@@luzUpcycles definitely worth pondering for a while on this decision 🤔 so glad you found the big piece of yardage you'd forgotten about! I'm enjoying your makes and videos 😊
Yes, I think I was thinking about this, and I think I might do like all black but with some of the fire fabric going down, thank you for giving your opinion lovely 🙂❤️
I think the black skirt would be great. Maybe with a strip of the fire fabric (or of the patchwork, if you have some left over) around the bottom of the skirt to tie it together.
Thank you lovely, I think I am going to go thought all of the comments, but I think the black skirt with some fire fabric decoration is everyone's favourite, will post the end result when it's done! 😁
I love the gingham dress! I have a bit of a different suggestion. How about adding a band to break up the patchwork from the fire fabric skirt? I would make it wide, 3-4 inches, (7.62cm-10.16cm). Love to see how you finish it!
Another great idea! I am writing all these suggestions down! thank you lovely! I particularly love the fact that you give me the cm conversation! thank you! 😁 will show the dress when done for sure ❤️
Beautiful patchwork, Luz! I agree with you that the combination with the fabric underneath is a bit 'busy'. A black skirt seems a very good idea. And may-be (I don't know for sure!) you could add one strip (or two) of patchwork to the black skirt. I also like the other dress, with the black and white squares. Well done!
Thank you lovely, yes I think you are right, black might be the best thing to do, I am going tomorrow to get some fabric! 😁 and thank you for your lovely comment! ❤️
Hmmm….. would 3 separate pieces work for you? Black skirt, print skirt and a print top to mix and match? I get the feeling you like the ease of whole dress, and all patchwork dress would be so Wild and Fun 🤩 Sleep on it ? Thanks for sharing
Yes! I prefer dresses, they are so much easier. I did think of making separates, it will be better but I am sure I won't use the Ankara fabric with the top, I think it is too busy!, maybe I make a black skirt and a black top? 😂 thank you for you comment lovely!
I think I would not use it as a dress at all ,but instead finish it off as a short jacket and use it as an accent piece ,and you could wear it with so many different dresses or slacks or shorts even . It's really cute !
You've been really busy, I don't have that many fabrics that look good together like that, you seem like you have a really cool house! I would luv to see more of it.
Thank you! I try to buy fabrics that go together, thank you for your compliment, for now we stay at the sewing studio, maybe in the future I will show the rest 🙂
Hi lovely!, yes those colours would look amazing with the top!, I am not sure if I would wear them on the bottom tho, maybe if they are muted?, thanks for your opinion! I really appreciate it! 😁
Hi Luz I think you should do all black at the bottom it will contrast well with the fabric you have at the top . Thanks for sharing your video with us😃
Hi! thank you!, I think I am buying the black fabric and see if I will to mix a little of the fire fabric otherwise probably only black, thanks for watching and caring to give me your opinion! I means a lot! 😁
My thoughts…. Maybe find a dot motif for the skirt? I’m wondering if a solid would be too stark a contrast to the wonderful texture and pattern of the patchwork . I love learning from you and am inspired to sit down and do a “meditation” piecing scraps together. Probably on the serger .
I think you might be right 🤔 I got some black fabric in the market today I need to see how it looks together, but I think you might have a point. So I am not the only one doing patchwork as meditation! 😊 thank you for your comment lovely ❤️
I agree the patchwork does get lost. But the fire fabric is beautiful. I am thinking rather than plain black for the skirt. Go with a black or gray print. Like the gray flower print in your patchwork. As commented below, the fire print would make a good bottom tier if you decided to go that route. I love the gingham dress. It is beautiful. I feel your pain concerning the "live" fabric. It is so frustrating.
Thank you lovely!, you know I didn't think of a black or grey print, sounds like a great idea!, I am going to the fabric market today to see if I can get something that will go well with it, if I don't use the fire fabric I will make another dress from it! 😁❤️
Thank you lovely! you can copy them any day of the week! 😁 Yes, I think I am going to the fabric market and get some black fabric for it, and yes I just pleated the bodice 😊
Thanks for sharing this, you have a really genuine demeanour. My idea would be to get some plain black fabric/poplin, and break it up with panels of your ankara fabric and the black fabric for the skirt :)
Oh thank you! what a lovely comment! 😁, that is also a very good idea!, maybe running vertically only narrow panels that flush a bit of colour on the black skirt? thank you lovely!

I woold do black in the middle, and then a peace of the fire fabric at the bottom.
Oooohhh!, that's a great idea! Thank you lovely 🤩

I'm in the minority but I really like the fire material as the skirt. 😁
I love the fire fabric!, I am still pondering on this one! 😁 thank you for your comment lovely! 😁❤️

How about stripping the black and the fire fabric together with long stripes going down? Something like gores on a skirt
Yes, I think I was thinking about this, and I think I might do like all black but with some of the fire fabric going down, thank you for giving your opinion lovely 🙂❤️
I would choose a dark greyfabric for the skirt. Maybe you could even find one with a very small print. Black would be a very hard contrast.
That is actually a really good idea! I still haven't finished it! I might have a look at grey! thank you lovely! 😁❤️

I think the fiery skirt makes it look so couturish looking.no black, the design is so different I don’t think it’s a bit much my two cents 😄
I haven't finished yet because I still don't know what to do! 😂
I think a orange or yellow maybe both on the bottom will be good and also accent the fire material and give it more color

Love it! I’m desperate to copy! I agree though, plain back skirt. I love the twist in the fabric at the front, is that gathers?

😁❤️
Do the skirt on black and the bodice will pop!
Thank you lovely, I think I will! 😁
I think the african print as a maxi dress looks like formal wear, I dont thing you would wear it very often
Yes that is probably true, I love the fabric so I will have to think what to make with it, thank you for your comment lovely 😁❤️
I buy white sheets from charity shop especially king size for lining much cheaper then buying lining material
That's a great idea! Will definitely do that! Thank you lovely 😍
I think the skirt shouldn't be as busy.
Yes that is what I think, I am putting a video together with all the finished items. Thank you lovely 😁❤️
I love the fire print also, what about turning the design vertically?
I love it also, maybe mixing it with black so it's not so busy? Thank you for you comment 🙂
