Disable Hyperthreading on the 14900KS after 7 GHZ for increased power efficiency at higher clock speeds.

Just upgraded this year 2024 to an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Sapphire Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB | 32 GB of DDR5 RAM | m.2 SSD (Samsung 990 Pro (4 TB)).
G.Skill for both computers. Went with 6000 MT to pair with the 7800X3D.

IPC varies from app to app. Those with a keen eye will notice that avx 512(2x, but not used in games), and only some applications/games have gotten a slight improvement. Some games show as little at 6 percent uptick! Amd really needs good salesmen this time around.

It scales up to around 20 threads, and it would like them to be symmetrical.
My rig is still using a Z270x board with a 4070super. It's starting to show it's age. I'm holding out for the new video cards with DDR6. I was having major problems and was going to replace last year but I was able to fix it with a new power supply and striping the OS. It still plays FH5 at 1440p just fine around 100FPS. It's been awhile since I checked.
Will say, I always follow CPU upgrades closely cause of frametime pacing. I still remember going through 2/3 gens of CPUs till I could play DS3 with zero stutters due to just throwing more and more processing power at it

7800x3d should also drop in price later this year which is kind of insane given the already current price to performance. Given the compatibility with existing AM5 install base you'd imagine demand is already going to be high af. I'm guessing AMD will wait for the Core Ultras to drop and then debut the x3d?

I thought it was confirmed that the new Ryzen chips will support 8400 RAM? I heard the IF is now running at 2.4GHz. I think the caveat is that you will need an 8x0 motherboard.

Jufes also said that the only way AMD can achieve 8000+ is setting DDR5 to a 4:1 ratio, wheras Intel 13900KS/14900KS can do 2:1 ratio at 8000+ now. Intel Arrow Lake will support faster DDR5 and be more likely to be stable at 8000+

Stay tuned, the memory controller on Lunar lake is on the processor die, lion cove is deeper and wider and may implement hyper threading, skymont has similar IPC as Raptor cove and lion cove is 14% better IPC than Redwood cove, lastly the memory controller is rumored to support higher memory speed, Im not planning to upgrade from my 14900k but I’m a hardware nerd.
You should probably temper your hype a little bit, 14% IPC over Redwood is not that impressive considering it's ~3% behind Raptor Cove in IPC, and if Meteor lake hints anything, the ring clock is awful, so we'll have to see how it pans out for Arrow Lake (Btw, it doesn't clock as bad as people expect)
And as bad (yes, bad) as the Zen 5 uplift is, it's most likely winning this gen. (And don't trust AMD numbers, they cherry picked GB sub-tests lmao)

@@derenbong6060 Yea, it's deeper and wider, it also have a new cache level, and higher cache capacities, but it doesn't matter if it's just slow, i've seen some meteor lake results, the L2 is sometimes even slower than the L3 of Zen 4, so yea it sounds impressive and all, but only micro-benches will reveal if it's a good arch or if it's a dud. Also Zen 4 already matches Golden Cove in overall IPC i don't see what you mean, it's just that GLC clocks even higher and has better memory perf. IPC doesn't always translate into better gaming results, see X3D.

Pleb with a 1440p 240hz monitor here, you tuned my 3090 , 5800x3D rig a year and a half ago and every shooter I touch ever literally maxes out my monitor so, when that stops happening is when I’ll see the need for an upgrade lol. as far as pop in it's a software issue it's somewhat solved in ue5 tech
The best way to look at this, is if your system is good enough for the games you play at the resolution you prefer you are fine. I think its important to upgrade when your card starts to lack features and can no longer hit a decent frame rate. Otherwise there's no need to upgrade. I remember when games like Crysis and the whole, 'can your pc play Crysis'. There really was a good reason to upgrade. 4090 is still a monster, 5090 will be an incredible piece of technology to own.
And check out CAMM 2, it has better traces than DIMM Ram, so may support higher memory overclocking,

CAMM won’t do anything special, just another reason to fool ppl into buying new ram and mobos. It was made by Dell to use almost the same amount of space as soldered ram but be swapped at the assembly line. I have CAMM in my laptop and don’t notice any difference. So don’t hold your breath

You're so right. I have a friend that's always like the new thing is out and I hate my current thing. I'm like why??? Is it not working or too slow? He's like, no but it doesn't support the latest shiny thing and the IPC isn't as good... I don't get it. I am not replacing my RTX 4090 until there is something at least 40-50% faster with features being used in games I can purchase and play. Future features are nice but they don't affect your current games. Even when they do come out most games allow you to run on hardware from the last 5-7 years so it really is just FOMO sometimes unless you're an e-sports player and truly need bleeding edge performance.

Im personally interested in what Intel is releasing. Just from them going to a better Node with TSMC 3nm should clean up a lot of the BS issues that ppl claim were issues with intel CPUs. It would've been nice if they had an X3D competitor. But with Intel Higher Generational IPC for me personally it should be way better in things like High End Emulation (RPCS3, Xenia & Ryujinx/Yuzu clones). Plus new Cycle on the same mobo so, We will have to see where the numbers land. I expect it to be pretty good. Hopefully they dont make it ridiculously overpriced.
I mostly play VR mxbikes and arma 3 and dayz . My 14900ks can't keep up its struggles to use the 4090 and arma 3 with the 7700k did around 60fps Ave in benchmark and the 14900ks can do 130fps Ave. In vr cpu bottle neck is horrible frame drops made you sick and 120hz is hard to hit In games with lot's of phisics. I know most people don't have this problem but I do with the stuff I play. IPC could be 50% more and still not be enough. I would spend more to get more I can afford it.

I will admit the 14900KS is my only upgrade path if I don’t want a new motherboard now and it’s growing more attractive of a product by the day with the EKG Delta TEC 2 custom loop cryogenic water cooling set up, the 14900KS is nearly unstoppable performance, and is as future proof as you can buy, if you cannot afford AMDs Threadripper Pro or EPYC CPUs.

It's all about low hanging fruit and playing to segment strength. E cores make a bigger difference in laptops, which Intel holds commanding share and they need to compete with Apple. I know everyone tends to think about AMD & Intel, but when you look at the revenue generated laptop is a big player. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss arrow lake with the process node improvements and more cache.
It is basically Zen + all over again. Remember the Upgrade from 1800X to 2700X really wasn't worth it for the performance it was worth it for the Motherboard Improvements which AMD Struggled with Early on.
Techpowerup is saying 9950x is +4% to +23% faster than 14900k in gaming.

I believe all hardware manufactured over the past 2 years is useless from a generational uplift perspective, my 5800x3d+3080 12gb has aged very well and I expect that to still be the case when blackwell and rdna 4 release this year, people could've entirely skipped lga 1700, am5, rdna 3 and ada and still have a near top performing gaming PC, especially if you weren't looking to spend 3k+.

The goal of better hardware is to push for 1000fps. Now obviously there’s a lot that goes into that game design, engine, software, etc but you will need the hardware to push it. I’m honestly just waiting for a full Intel build. If Nvidia wants my money again they are gunna have to make a CPU. I will just go all Intel or all AMD.
I'm getting a 9950x but AVX-512 is the only reason I want it.
amd needs to get it together and have 16 core chiplets and have a 32 core 7950x/9950x and 3d cache that to make sense in getting that instead of having a gimped down version of a 7950x thats really a 7800x3d in disguise
HODL, Question is whether the 9950X3D/9800X3D are better than a 14900K(KF)/KS. 15th would just be the minimum threshold for the competition, so the new AMD stack might not be as good because 15th might not be as good (all speculation). My 4090 is sweating bullets that it might not be good enough for this new amazing crop of CPUs. 🤣

You can't compare lunar lake to arrow lake. As lunar lake cpu die is made using TSMC N3B (basic) and Arrow lake will use intel 20A + powerVIA. This are two very different technologies. Traditional finfet on lunar lake vs GAAFET (gate all around) + reversed power delivery POWERVIA with lower voltage drops by 30% and higher performance by 6%. + removing HT brings between 3-5% gaming performance increase vs HT on. Add new skymont e-cores that are faster then 14900k p-cores =You do not need HT
Even if they drop to 5.5ghz powervia + HT removal will make this on par with 14900k@6.0ghz. IPC increase of arl is unknown.
At minimum arl 5.5ghz will be 15% faster then 14900k at 6.0ghz and prolly do this at 170-200W

Intel is defending against AMD taking laptop space, that's why the focus on E cores. Performance per Watt is everything on mobile.
without running amd you can't compete - look at steam stats if you want to confirm - we do need to have 64gb hbm onboard but the thing is amd is ruling and they will rule even more with zen5 x3d

X3d chips have more advanced packaging so it takes longer to spin up the manufacturing + qc, also the x3d chips are binned for voltage so it would take a while after manufacturing starts on the core dies to build up inventory

Ryzen 9000 FCLK max is reportedly 2400MHz. But AFAIK no word if that's guaranteed or silicon lottery number. Rumor mill says Zen5 is focused primarily on power efficiency, IF latency and signal integrity, and front end optimizations, so changes that should benefit OC and gaming.
That being said, if the 9600X actually launches at $299 then Zen5 is a serious AMD Skylake moment. A 6c/12t chip at $299 in 2024 is so stagnant I'd expect it to ship with mosquitoes.

The 7950x isn't exactly getting the correct clocks on some motherboards. And having the similar issues as the 14900K. Just the 3 people that bought the 7950x are bragging about them.

This has to be the worst launch of Ryzen non-3D till date. 0 frequency boost compared to previous gen and less than 20% IPC gain.
It is 16% over the 7000X on average. Also now native is 5600mhz over the 4800mhz which is exactly 16% difference. The 8000:2000 infinitiF is on average 4% faster than 6400:2000. If somehow u r manage to run 6400:2133 cl26 there are videos on YT that it is even slower than cl34 7800Mhz/2133 on x3d series. What are you talking about? Zen 5 IPC increase is bigger than Zen 4's IPC increase. I don't understand how people find a 16% IPC gain "shitty"... like hello? These are CPUs not GPUs. 16% is good.

@@laszlozsurka8991 Higher IPC than Zen 4 means very little without any clock speed increase. Zen 4 had IPC and Clock increases, so at least in applications where IPC was the same, you were guaranteed to get an improvement compared to the previous gen Zen 3.
Zen 4 will probably tie Zen 5 in a lot of applications.
