I’m a righty but use a left hand retrieve. I figure you don’t change hands in spin or fly casting, why do it for BFS? It’s not like you’re cranking in a tuna ha ha.
Ron Mehringer I agree100%
Same here. I bought a right hand retrieve reel first as I am a righty, but it just doesn't feel natural switching hands after a cast. After buying two right handed reels, I switched to lefty and never looked back. I use left handed retrieve on spinning gear as well, just makes sense.
Agreed
i am right hand but love fishing left hand do not like changing hands
Lefties here lol!
Lefties Unite! How is that if your right handed, spinning gear is cranked with the left but casting is with the right? That makes no sense to me
Omg thank you for this video so much your amazing
im a righty but i use a lefty reel because i like using my right to work the rod
I am also lefty. I am thinking of switching to righty cause when casting right arm, it work on rod and also feel tired of retriving..my right wrist getting pain.
I'm a righty but I only use left handed baitcasters. I like to be able to control the bait with my dominant hand, and I grew up using spinning gear.
It was 40-50s today and going to be in the 70s tomorrow here too.
make sure you get those selfies holding the fish.. ! love those guys
I'm right-handed, but grew up throwing a spinning reel right handed & reeling left-handed. So feels pretty natural to me, plus I don't have to switch hands each cast. BTW I have seen several reviews on this reel and the braking system is a problem. The Tsurinoya sided by side was a much better reel over all. Thanks for doing this reel review of BFS setups. .
Yeah i did the field battle between this and the XF 50 and said the Steed brakes are pretty crap
Same here.
I crank spinning reels left and bait casters right
Knew it was gonna be tons of comments about "this" being the right way to be reeling.
Nice video, and nice osprey sighting,a bit before the 2 min mark. I wonder how that setup would handle 1/32 oz,1/16 oz jig heads with a 2" curl tail grub rigged. For a backhand cast with a noodle whip like that, bring it back, wait a sec til it loads, then bring it forward and release,in a nice smooth motion. At least that's how it works with the pixy on a cheapo walmart 4'6" micro graphite series pole. It's a short noodle whip. If I try to do a regular backhand cast like with typical heavier casting gear,it will often crap out on me. I often I hold the reel size ways too, when I backhand cast. I think it helps it a little bit. Then again, you're probably more experienced with bait casting than I am lol. I wish you tried some underhand casts. That kind of casting works nicely with noodle whip poles. If you're interested in doing a review on a cheap BFS capable pole, found at walmart, look no further than the Shakespeare micro series UL 4'6" spin cast combo. Less than 20$, just take the junky spin cast reel off,and put on your BFS reel, and ready to go. Earlier,I lost a 1 pound bass on that pole, when I went to turn my video cam on. I was throwing an inline spinner, that I made. Wouldn't be the first fish I lost while messing around with my camera lol. It was great to feel a nice fish on that setup.
With the spool tension tight I had to adjust my backhand cast. I have a video coming up soon that will benefit all guys trying to get into finesse casting
You right handed ppl who reel righty are weird and confused about which arm is stronger!
So what u think..trulinoya xf50 or this haibo which one is better
so far the Steed but we have the field test to go
Wow, this is just great Sir! I really like the reel, although it needs to add more magnet but hey we still go the distance shoot out right?. Another great video, hope to see there's some improvement especially in casting light/ micro lures after the magnet installed! :D
i will install the magnets for the field test vs the XF50
So in the end how did that reel work out for you I’m gonna get the same exact reel I actually found one brand new at a pawn shop of all places
Can't wait to see this in the field compared to the xf50 are you going to use the same rod for both to keep everything even
I always do in the field tests
i want know the reel magnetic size. pls tell me
You should do a reel review on the 13 fishing origin TX... its only 100 bucks but I've heard good things about it. I'[d like to see it in action.
Can it toss the .8g Daiwa Presso Vega Spoon?
Damn I feel like getting the Haibo SMART now.
Left handed reels are good for pitching and flipping. Since this reels is aluminum frame, it can handle it.
Have you tried stacking the additional magnets on the installed ones youll have stronger breaking
i made a video about it already
THE REEL TEST .....I see theres is a haibo steed that's white with dual breaking system whats the difference besides obviously the breaks ?
HI man the rod has 2 tips? And how about L tip is it noodle ?
Sometimes I ask you righties the same thing lol
What's up with the bearings in this reel ? they sound terrible . I can't complain about the functionality it does what I need it to do which is throw weightless lures but it sounds terrible doing it lol
It's an advantage to learn to cast and reel with both hands. I have lefties and righties on my punch and frog poles.
Spinning gear for me when I go that light. Lol
well, how about making a poll here about lefts vs rights? I bet the results would be interesting
Out of curiosity, is there a reason you bought the Steed with the magnetic braking system over the Steed with the centrifugal system? They are the same price on aliexpress and I'm going to order it as my first bfs so I'd like to know which system is best for finesse. Thanks.
Zeke G What version is it? Is it with Banex Centrifugal brake?
Vire m.aliexpress.com/item/32327868353.html?pid=808_0000_0109&spm=a2g0n.search-amp.list.32327868353
honestly I didnt even know there was a centrifugal brakes version.
THE REEL TEST so if you had to choose one now which would it be?
ive heard bad things about the brake arms of the Haibo reels, that they break easy. but if the spools were the same Id take centrifugal all day over magnetic
You must live in Michigan with that weather lol
Or Wisconsin hahah
What rod is that?
Do you have anything I can talk to you on and would you recommend the xf50 or the steed
wait till the field test video and Ill give you guys my final verdict
THE REEL TEST thank you and do you have any form of social media
not right now
Hey great video just wondering if you were done with the $99 reel contest and which would be a good investment
hey Sid, no I have 1 more test to do for the $99 reel contest, just been to busy with new reels. Ill get it done soon though and give my final assessment
THE REEL TEST cool thanks I’ll be looking to seeing it soon. Keep up the good work man your videos rock
i am right handed and i only use left handed reels
You don't go left on your spinning set ups?
DD European and North Asia people
DD do your research, bait finesse system (BFS) a fishing technique that originated in japan for targeting trout in streams
I love your videos, man. When will you uplad the metanium DC video?
soon lol..
THE REEL TEST mysterious...
the Haibo Steed videos took precedence because I wont have it very long. But I plan on making at least 3 videos on the Metanium DC. The unboxing/tabletop, the field test vs the MGL, and on the water where I go over the DC brake settings.
THE REEL TEST Thanks, i am waiting for them. Success for the Channel! (Sorry for bad English, i am from Brazil).
Right hander with left hand retrieve is only way to go..why switch hands to cast makes little sense especially if you also use spinning reels. Give it a few days and doing it will feel completely normal.
what fishing line you use?
4lb flouro in this video
Will you Post a link for the rod and reel?
look them up on aliexpress
Yes please do im interested in that combo too.
Both rod and reel can be found on aliexpress, I totaled it up and the combo was $108.84
What are you mean because the rod are noodle? Not good? Sry my English is not good
Hey am a lefty in casting... soo i'm weird?
To us lefties, reeling with the right hand feels weird and unnatural
Lol, I am right handed and use a left retrieve baitcaster, makes no sense to switch hands when you cast.
And it feels weird for me to Reel with my right
Well, you said "You lefties are weird" and I gonna said "Damn, you righties are weird". LOL
I'm ambi. Ha!
I think trulinoya xf50b is better..because xf50 only have 5 magnetic can perform more than this haibo reel set to max breaking cannot perform well like xf50
we lefties are not weird okay... you right handed are weird...ahahaha
Where did you buy the rod from?
aliexpress
THE REEL TEST I looked I didn't see it.... oh well I'll keep looking.

THE REEL TEST your awesome my friend
For the love of good god, youtube translated the name of the rod as "lord Hitler"
You able to overhead cast, but make sure not to whipped the tip of the rod....if you do that you will get backlashes due to the rod so flexible....I don't know if you understand what I talking about. If you fly fishing you cast with you arm not with the rod....the motion of your arm not the tip of the rod.
A flick cast?
I saw a video demonstration with an old school pro bass fisherman casting light lures on a baitcaster. He said practice holding a sheet of paper against your body with your elbow to cast. If you drop the paper you're casting wrong and will backlash. It's a smooth wrist action with only movement from your elbow down. Elbow, upper arm & shoulder is fixed. I will find the link an add to this thread.
CASTING LIGHT LURES: This applies to BFS as well... I am still learning this technique. Notice he holds his reel sideways to on the over head cast.
ua-cam.com/video/vxR1JCmPBRg/v-deo.html
If your casting arm is right then left hand reel should be used.....otherwise your waisting time changing the rod from one hand to the other .... 3 seconds by 1000 casts is 3000 seconds....that's 50 minutes.
I could argue that it takes even longer....because you hold the rod with your left hand while retrieving...then change to the right .....cast. click reel. Change hands again.
Vasii Lucian.M.Vasii I never understood why people cast with one arm and then switch to retrieve.
I suppose if your not under a tournament situation wasting time is not really going to be a problem. ;)
I'm ambi, doesn't matter to me.
palm it better than what you doing .. you will feel the difference
lefty isnt weird think of it like baseball i catch with my left throw with my right, so i would cast with my right and reel left if anythingg your weird and all the people that cast this way that are rigth handed
Did your cousin like it or not
im giving it to him in a couple of weeks
That’s cool 😀
4lb? Nah, go 2lb.
Usually, you point the rod across the body when fishing. If I can learn RH after 20+ years of fishing left with spinning reels, you just need more practice. The form is exactly opposite. Jerk and set the hook to the left of your body. Lol
you actually jerk the rod however you need to keep the lure in the strike zone.. so at that particular spot I needed to keep the jerk bait near the edge of the current
Haibo Steed is a dud. return it.
Lefties are normal....Why is a spinning reel ....."Normal" and a bait caster not?.....LEFTIES UNITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
