Welcome to our Homelands, produced by ISSofBC with funding support from Vancity Credit Union, features six Indigenous communities as they extend a welcoming message to newcomers to Canada.
This version include Amharic subtitles and voice-over.
The video provides a glimpse of Aboriginal history in Canada including its more complex aspects, and reflects the wide diversity of Indigenous peoples in Canada and their cultures.
Learning about Canada's full history is an important part of Truth and Reconciliation (T&R) and is a topic many newcomers are not aware of. ISSofBC's ongoing T&R efforts aims to address this issue so that newcomers can appreciate the contributions Indigenous Peoples have made to the land we now call Canada.
The video along with a study guide serves as a “jumping off point for further learning.” The video was written, directed and edited by Kamala Todd.
