The question I forgot to ask. I used shellac and i'm ready to tape up the bindings. I'm using thin viscosity CA glue. But, I'm using "plastic bindings" NOT wood. Is this O.K

hey Robert, I used this method very successfully last year bonding plastic binding and purfling to an arch top, but my latest project has some CA staining despite sealing all the glueing surfaces with nitro sealer. the top and back are laminated maple so I can't sand too much, so wondered if you had a trick to remove the stains? I tried a little acetone which definitely helped, but I am concerned about getting it too close to the plastic. any thoughts?😞

Hi Alan, There is no way I know of to fix the problem after the fact. Prevention is the best thing. Wish I could help more.

thanks Robert. I have managed to get the bulk of the stains out with acetone. I have toying with the idea of trying CA glue as a grain filler on this flamed maple veneer, so I might be able to blend the stains with the 'grain filler'.

Remember that CA glue is very difficult to sand down scrape it flush before it dries. Apply in small areas at a time. P.S. This is Natalie replying for Robbie who is filming in Canada.

      thanks Natalie.
I will be applying the CA with small squeegee, keeping the surface flat at all times. small areas at a time, until the back is covered in a uniform film.
I will of course do a test first.
