Awesome and inspirational video! I love watersports and after seeing videos of you and other wakeboarders, I wanted to try it myself. So I bought a wakeboard last year, but the day after I bought it, I broke my foot while doing it. That meant seven weeks with crutches, and I haven't dared to try It this year. But I always want to try it again when I see your videos and specially after watching this. Love your content.
Started riding for the first time & obsessively at age 35 and I find myself going back through old footage getting inspired to try things I was working on but only landed once or twice and have also taken beatings on. (Roll to Blind, Big [Shaun style] Raleys, Crow Mobe) I will say that the pain increased exponentially after age 46. (I am 51 now). Injuries deter getting back in good riding shape now that wakeboarding is not as big of a sport anymore. Kudos Shaun, I will be curious to see how long you keep the stoke to ride at a high level! Giant Raleys at 60? :)
I'm finding that going back to some simple things, less risky things, are actually a ton of fun. Check out my switch backroll video. Have been riding unweighted sets lately and working on fundamentals and some things like switch bs 180's landing wrapped better.
Yeah brown is not bad either, I wish I still had it hanging up in the garage like you do. I do still have the Skurfer though in the pink color! It would be cool to try to get some straps for it again and take a run on it after three decades. Nice work on the KGB! 👍🤙
Talking about tricks that scare you and thinking the ambulance won’t arrive in time... Over a decade ago I crushed my trachea when the rope popped, during my pull down from a raley. I landed with the handle between my trachea and the water. I climbed back in the boat thinking I’d just had the wind knocked out of me. Which wasn’t unusual in my crashes back then. After a minute or so I realized that wasn’t what was going on. I could exhale just fine, but each time I tried to inhale my throat would close up, because the tiny bones that hold it open were shattered. I laid on the engine cover of my boat looking up at the clouds in the blue sky knowing that I wasn’t going to be alive when we got back to the dock. I accepted it and made peace with it. Fortunately my friends didn’t give up that easy and pushed the throttle of the Nautique to its limits. Another friend was attempting mouth to mouth and I finally figured out that if I exhale while she tried to breathe air into me, my trachea would open up enough to let a little bit of air in. That badass of a woman continued breathing air into me, as I constantly coughed blood and who knows what else, straight into her mouth. The ambulance met us at the dock (8mins after I initially climbed into the boat). I thought all was good until I couldn’t communicate my required breathing process to the paramedics, so I finally took the bag valve mask away from them and operated it myself. At this point my eyes were swollen shut and everything above my chest was purple. I literally had air being forced under my skin (or so I am told). They tried to intubate once the ambulance got moving and shortly after that I lost consciousness. They never successfully intubated (because they couldn’t get the tube into my sucked shut trachea). At that time I was the only one that had a clue as to what injury I sustained and of course I couldn’t talk. There was no external sign of injury, so the paramedics didn’t know what to do. To this day I don’t know how it happened, but I regained my sense of touch and hearing as we rolled through the ER doors. From what I could gather, a doctor sprinted across the ER with a blade in hand, jumped on top of me, and “slit my throat”. I can’t even begin to describe how good it felt to have my throat cut open in that moment. It was so strange for pain to feel like such a relief. After that I was aware enough to communicate to the doctors with a thumbs up/thumbs down. I unsuccessfully even tried to tell them to pull my brand new quicksilver trunks off of me rather than cut them off. Lol They had their priorities straighter than I did and cut them wide open. That’s the last thing I remember. I woke up over 24hrs later after having 2 reconstructive surgeries. Spent a week in ICU, another week in observation, and then a few months with a tracheostomy tube sticking out of my neck. Anyway, my reason for rambling on about this is to say that I CRINGED when I saw that knot in your rope. I’ve learned a lot about fiber technology since my little mishap and one thing I specifically learned is that a knot can create extra friction and heat in the line and cause it to fail. I’d say you are more likely to get hit by lightning than to suffer the injury I suffered, but as the official rope Nazi, I feel compelled to make everyone aware of the danger. My line wasn’t knotted. In fact no experts could figure out why it failed. According to them, it should have held 10times my weight taking a hard cut at 25mph. Just a fluke I guess. I do want to say that I don’t blame the Murray Faux Leather bindings that I was using, at all for that accident. Lol To get back on topic, it took me 2yrs to get up enough nerve to try a raley again. It’s like I felt fine with it mentally, but my subconscious would tell my body that the shit wasn’t a good idea and I could feel a sense of uneasiness tingling from my fingertips to my toes. I guess it was a PTSD type response. I’ve never felt anything else like it and even to this day I have to fight the urge to bail out of a raley. So well done on making the KGB comeback! I know what that took to do!
Shaun Murray thanks for replying! 15yr old me would have never thought that I could one day just randomly talk to Shaun Murray from anywhere in the world. Lol
Sending my child to OWC summer camp next summer. Are you around with the kids at all? Just want to say I grew up watching you and stoked you are still out there killing it. I set my 6 year old up with a board and he's hooked. Working on selling the fishing boat we have to buy a wakeboard boat!
My kids head to the summer camp as well. I hang w them and their friends while they're there and I'll stop in sometimes when I'm coaching during the summer. Just never scheduled to be part of the camp.
Shaun Murray Awesome good to hear. I hope while we are there I could say hello. Also stay safe and tie up that G23 so it doesn’t blow away as this hurricane heads your way. Looks like it might hit us up in Charleston as well.
Man, I can't deny the sheer skill level, dexterity along with bravery. But visually I just can't get behind wakeboarding. It looks so cumbersome vs. Surfing, skateboard and snowboarding. That's awesome Jorge. Oldest person to do their first invert w me was probably at least in their 50's maybe even 60's. You've got plenty of time. But, make sure you're taking the time working on a good foundation for many reasons. Less hard crashes, faster progression, and more than anything...actually fun doing the basics. Enjoy your ride!

By the way, I broke my jaw when I was 24 trying my first invert. Never tried it again, haha!

Do you even know who Steve O is then? Not even close hahaha Shaun needs to smoke about 50000 cigs before he’s on his level
That trick after the 3rd kgb. I haven’t seen that one since either detention or Shaft. I can’t remember. You are awesome man!
Now there's some classics. Nice memory. I can't remember either:)
You are bad ass Shaun! Also you are humble too. Very inspiring...
7:01 kgb “it’s and easy trick” 😂
You’ve inspired me man! I haven’t done the wrapped k since my injury as well! Might have to make an attempt this weekend
How’d you go? Spend much time in hospital? 😂😂
Awesome riding! Going to the lake tomorrow and it's been years. This video got me pumped up to try things a little out of my comfort zone
Awesome set Shaun! Keep it up with your amazing videos.
Thanks for watching Brock!
Love your content.
the slow moo yaaaaayyys are funny as
😂
I voted for you Shaun!
Thanks James!
Definitely earned a vote from everyone who has ever wimped out before!
Thanks Calvin
Good show man. And yes you have to test yourself. Once you stop testing yourself you get slow. When that happens they get ya. Who ever they are. 🤘😎🤘
Yessir
That is a sweet bike! My dad used to have an identical one but brown. The blue looks way cooler!
Right?! I mean, brown sounds sweet too though.
Yeah brown is not bad either, I wish I still had it hanging up in the garage like you do. I do still have the Skurfer though in the pink color! It would be cool to try to get some straps for it again and take a run on it after three decades. Nice work on the KGB! 👍🤙
i remember when i used to play your wakeboard game on ps2 and grinding on the houseboats and releasing and catching the rope lol
That’s a crazy story you lived through and what a bunch of amazing people that kept you going. Thanks for sharing
@@scottcourtney5647 you in Charleston?
Shaun Murray yes sir!
You ever come up this way?
Man, I can't deny the sheer skill level, dexterity along with bravery. But visually I just can't get behind wakeboarding. It looks so cumbersome vs. Surfing, skateboard and snowboarding. Now I say this with no disrespect as doing it is legit fun. You know what, Wakeboarding is the Golf of water sports. Fun to play boring to watch. BUT Hell Damn well played son, you honestly mad it look like a warm up trick.😃🙌🙌🙌🙌🥂🎆
Awesome! That definitely takes some rather large kahana's 👍🤙
Once in a while I like to go for it, but not every set. :)
Hi Shaun! It's Quade! I'm still practicing everything you've taught me
Right on Quade! Was great having you and your family out this week:)
Thank you so much for teaching me!
Wow...So cool seeing you still rip it!
Nice Job... I busted my chin open doing that same trick. Had to get 20 stitches.
you make wakeboarding look so fun
I honestly enjoy myself a lot on the water.
Fear is really a thing! Awsome you just did that, and that you pushed again for that kgb 👌🏻👌🏻 you killed it 🤙🏻🏄🏼♂️💯🔥
Thanks HLG!
So far I've only gone wakeboarding 3 times. Still learning how to get air off the wake. Taken some killer slams, but tons of fun.
Solid man!! Enjoyed watching that wrap kgb!!
Hey Shaun! Hope you see this!! (It’s Clara)
Hey Clara! I told my mom about coaching you and it made her smile (for those of you who don't know, my mom's name is Clara as well)
You are a BOSS...!!!! Keep inspiring
Thanks Pat!
Love it Shaun. You're an inspiration.
One of my all time favorite tricks to see you do and loved trying to recreate on my trampoline. I remember meeting you when I was 13-14 at the Abbotsford Canada Pro Tour Stop and had your old pro model with the green edge all the way around. So awesome to follow you still killing it behind the boat. You are the GOAT.
Are you gonna be at the event at lake Allatoona this weekend in Georgia?
Not this year but maybe the Nautique Regatta on Lanier next year.
@@Shaun.Murray ah dang that’s too bad but I understand you can only make so much time for these events. Also lake Lanier is a sketchy one to attend I may have to pass on that one 😅 do some research on how many people have died there.. that lake is over a flooded town and over spiritual grave sites and many people say it’s haunted which is why the mysterious deaths occur so often
@@LawsonTrawick 😳
How do I get motivated to jump the wake
Watch this series, which takes you through the sport to give you a good foundation and have fun learning fundamentals. ua-cam.com/play/PLzW7auimACTo2jYfsUqGqaP0rUqRG6M1w.html
@@Shaun.Murray thank you
Shaun, I keep getting inspired by you.
I'm 45 and arrived at the sport probably to late. I'm trying to do the 360 this year, and eventually an invert in 2020. How old was the oldest person you have seen make an invert for the first time?
That's awesome Jorge. Oldest person to do their first invert w me was probably at least in their 50's maybe even 60's. You've got plenty of time. But, make sure you're taking the time working on a good foundation for many reasons. Less hard crashes, faster progression, and more than anything...actually fun doing the basics. Enjoy your ride!
@@Shaun.Murray 50-60? wow! that's great! Good to know that. And thanks for the sound advice. As with everything in life, one has to not only focus on the destination, but also enjoy the journey :)
Exactly @@JorgeFerreira-cd9dr And that's a good point as to why I say "Enjoy your ride"
@@Shaun.Murray Who is the oldest to learn a Mobe? ;)
Im in my 40s and i calculated i made over 1,000,000 from wakeboarding. I only won some local tournaments but my money was made through the business contacts i made. Now i have over 400 commercial tenants. I was broke and learning behind an old barefoot Nautique. Im afraid to just do a ralley. Can you do one for me to give me confidence?
Best video I've seen on UA-cam in awhile. I've been watching you ride since your early career and I sill can't believe you can still do all of these tricks. It seems as if you've found the fountain of youth! What's your secret? I'm old and fat and all I want to do is surf anymore, it's much less painful. By the way, I broke my jaw when I was 24 trying my first invert. Never tried it again, haha!
SO SICK!!!
Whats up brotha! 😂 (alex pregel)
Anything different on the 2020 model? Or just colors.
Just graphics.
Shaun lets see a back mobe. You always had one of the best looking ones!
Insert wide eyed emoji here. I'll pretend I didn't see that for a while. I have some other tricks I haven't done in a while that I could do. But, then again, maybe I should figure it out again. Ah man! Maybe. I'll think about it Steve:)
Shawn what is your rope length on this video? 65'?
Nice man, you're an inspiration
Thanks for watchin Aaron
That trick is sick
damn i cant believe the wrapped kgb of all things ! i would think a 911 to blind or something. thanks gregg for inventing it.(i was at masters in 96? when i met u)stephen
I know right?! Have probably done thousands of them, but some of my hardest crashes are from them. And yeah, I have some other tricks that make me nervous still and don't do too often. Maybe more edits in the future. Makes me nervous just typing that:)
Congrats on bringing back the KGBISCUIT and hitting plenty of hammers on top of that 🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
Biscuit. Now it's time for a Triscuit. You have to know John to get that one. If you've ever ridden OWC and had the operator rhyme as you go off the dock...that him. You're funny Haile.
Triscuit! 😂😜Thanks Murray!!! That means a lot!!! We’ll have to ride together sometime ❤️🤘🏻😃
Yeah buddy! You bet. We gotta hit the lake for a quick set. @@JohnHaile
Yeup- went through a phase when I loved doing wrapped kgb's. Started to grab them and got destroyed by one attempt, then the same exact crash happened again and I decided they weren't that cool anymore haha went through the exact same thing with sbends
Hyped for those 2020 boards to get reviled
Soon Brado, soon.
I loved your wake game for PlayStation was so sick.
Was/is a good game
@@Shaun.Murray yes sir was and is a good game. I actually bought it twice second time took me a little too find it. Keep it up with the videos love watching you shred still.
Your actually so good!!
I love wake boarding so much but I have been trying to do a back role but never been successful. It's been super annoying and frustrating. I have been wake boarding all my life, but I live in Canada so I can only go out during the summer. If you have any advise to help me out that would be great.
I love the cameraman’s stoke
You make it look so easy!
You are professional 👏👌👍👍 love it.
Thanks Roman! Cheers!
voting done can’t wait for 2020
I know this video is a year old but hopefully someone can explain at 5:16 how he gets so much air so effortlessly!?!?! I've seen his how to get more are video but he starts from further away on them. Here he's barly a foot from the wake yet he's 2 feet in the air!?!? Love this dude he's super inspiring!
Rioblue he’s good
The boat he’s behind is the best wakeboarding boat, but he has hops to
Since you got your new boards have a giveaway for people who want to get in to the sport. Unless you have a use for them. Good vid keep up the good content Shaun!
I look for opportunities to get boards into people's hands when I can.
@@Shaun.Murray ok I got one the other day love the new sport
Hi I'm Kaleb from the mark bros I love wakeboarding
What speeds are you at doing these tricks?
Approx 23mph
Do you like the snow ski better or snowboard better?
I’m more comfortable with a snowboard but I’ll do either when the opportunity arises
@@Shaun.Murray That’s awesome, we are actually riding with you on the boat on Thursday. My nine-year-old daughter asked you that question after watching the video! They are excited to see you.

Do you use slider fins...if so what size?
No. Just stock fins that come w my Hyperlite Murray board. .8 inch fins.
what kind of boat was pulling you?
Super Air Nautique G23 in this video. My current boat is a G23 Paragon.
I want to come down to OWC and get a lesson from the goat.
