I’ve been using rust-oleum for most of my paint jobs. I’ve found it beneficial to use one of their paint and primers for the base coat, as the primer part will help it adhere to the plastic. Also, I’ve found that leaving flat or matte finish paints unprotected will cause them to wear off (especially on handles) I have started using one of their specialty lacquers as a clear coat and have had some trial and error. Beware, if you do weathering with diluted black acrylic, then wait at least 12 hours before applying the clear coat. I had an entire half of a stryfe shell orange peel on me because I was impatient and put my clear coat on too early. Other than that it works great and protects the paint very well. I hear so many people saying to use vinyl dye but I’m doing all personal builds at this point and I’ve had no issues with chipping or paint not adhering so far. I can’t justify spending $20 on a can of spray paint.

You can use a gray vynil dye as a basecoat and then coat the whole blaster in orange and youre at spray paint plus a can of gray instead of all that bread for the orange dye. Its almost as much but still less
For my paint jobs I use a paint pen and add color to certain areas. I don't use spray paint because it scares me but I also just do little bits of the blaster or to repair a paint job.
I've resigned myself to not painting the orange parts of my blasters very often, stuff hates sticking to it smoothly for some reason, I am probably half adding the sanding job on them tbh. I also love the duplicolor perfect match I did a crossbolt in the dodge viper blue with black accents and a gloss clear coat and it turned out amazing. If they all ended up that nice I would be happy lol.
Captain Xavier, have you considered doing videos on simple tactics, such as stacking up, and clearing rooms? I think they would be well received, and just really cool.
I second this. Playing in an urban area really gives that real-steel feel (lol), and as he is in private security he definitely knows what he's talking about.
I prep my blasters with scotch brite pads and water that helps dull the shine on the plastic before priming. I did a video on wet-sanding my nerf logos on my other channel because friction makes things take longer because of heat so i do all mine like that now :)
When you say sand the paint, you mean literally all of it? Or just scuff it real good cause I have a rapidstrike and I been sanding it for 3 hours and theres no way you can get every morsel off paint off without say like a bead blaster.
Question about number of coats: do you do multiple coats of primer/each color to get it fully covered before moving on to the next? Or, do you just move on with the little bits that are uncovered like you discused to avoid pooling?

Hey Cap! Great informative video! Any tips and recommendations regarding painting Springer's like the retaliator and how to prevent that the 'plastic-on-plastic' region gets scuffed through the slide-/pump-action. Any procedure to protect the paint or have a paint type which is not affected by the sliding? Maybe you can demo this type of paint jobs and the slide action not destroying paint in a video? Keep up the great work! Cheers from Germany.
The trick is going to be really light coats of paint so there is not much build up (vinyl dye is great for this) and a good thin clear coat. The clear coat will protect the paint. You also might try sanding the under side of the slide to make a little more room to make up for the thickness of the layers of paint. Not much, just enough.
