    Seems like it needs a way to detect the edge of a drop-off, similar to how a Roomba can detect stairs. Maybe another ultrasonic sensor pointed at a downward angle? The logic would be the opposite of the forward facing sensor - it would need to detect the floor ahead, and if it did NOT detect the floor, then stop & turn.

    0:36 actually, it calculates how to move every 16 times every second, because it is clocked at 16Hz.

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  3 місяці тому

      Nope ❤️ The Arduino clock is 16MHz (million hertz). And at 10:10 you can see in the code that they set a timer interruption that calls the balancing function at every 5 milliseconds (so, 200 times per second)

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  10 місяців тому +2

      Ohhh… that’s a super duper complex project - from the mechanical stand point, computer vision and solving algorithm. But you can find many videos on UA-cam of people that built those machines - maybe you can find one that is not so difficult to make. It gets expensive and super complex when you try to do it fast. If speed is not a goal, I saw some simpler ones. Search and you will find. Good luck! 🍀👍

    Nice review! The issue with your I2C expansion plan is due to the fact that they must read the accelerometer fairly quickly, at accurate intervals. During that time, you cant use the bus for reading or writing to another device. So, the challenge will be to write code that "caches" up I2C messages, waits for the time BETWEEN Accelerometer readings, and dispatch a message. Basically a message que system for I2C which assigns priority to the Accelerometer. This may mean only writing portions of the display at once, rather than the whole screen. "Slow" GPIO with the PCF8575.
    The "quick and dirty" way would be to add these other I2C device code routines right after the Accelerometer read. Ideally, since they are using a 5ms sensor loop, you would want all of the additional I2C read/writes to be fast, to keep that whole process much less than 5ms total. It may seem difficult, but 5ms is quite a long time in "microcontroller time." It executes 80,000 instructions in 5ms. ;)

    • @epremeaux
      @epremeaux Рік тому

      To clarify: you cant write code that just tries to access the I2C bus whenever. Likely you interrupted the attempt to read the accelerometer, or caused the reading to be delayed too long.

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  Рік тому

      Hi there! I absolutely loved your explanation and it totally makes sense - it occurred to me that I should have tried to use the display with I2C right on the same time interruption that reads the accelerometer as you said. I was trying it on the main loop and, I agree, everything you said could have contributed to my failure. Also, the encoders on the wheels are using hardware interrupts and the frequency is much higher than I imagined at first / I still need to better study the priorities around Arduino interruptions, and see which functions have their execution suspended… I smell that the encoders can also making the whole thing very tight - more than the 5ms accelerometer reading.
      Unfortunately, I never got time to revisit my little Robot friend and continue learning and tweaking its code.
      Thank you so much for your time and knowledge! I really appreciated your comments! ❤️

I feel such a difference here in Spain: I might have ordered near 100 cheap items from AliExpress last year... all of them arrived by mail without problems. Things between 2 to 10 USD. I remember trying to get things from eBay in Brazil, it was always a bet.

    Have you played with tuning the PID for balancing? Mine seems to hunt / sway slightly when stationary to stay upright. I think it might be partly due to the (slight) motor gear backlash, but I haven't had a chance to dig in and see if that can be tuned out.

      This Robot uses a Bluetooth module - and it is possible to make better control of it changing the code and using an Arduino to send the commands (or write your own App). You could go to the Support area in the Elegoo Website and download the code from there, and open it in the Arduino IDE to check it that’s something you can understand and tweak 👍

I bought what was available nearby my house just to keep my things a bit organized. I prefer transparent cases, I don’t like removable divisions, I pay particular attention to how the lid is connected to the case: I avoid cases that the lid is a single piece with the body, because the hinges eventually break.

      And very often, when the video is sponsored, the brand requires the creator to submit for their reviewing and approval (after all, it is a paid piece). Only after green light the video is made public. So, you don't have a candid, clear opinion of the creator.

    Which programming language used in arduino to make it functional.

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  3 роки тому

      Hello there! By far the most popular way to program Arduinos is to use the “Arduino IDE” (recommended for your first steps into the Arduino world) and you write code in C++
      The amount of examples and tutorials on the Web and UA-cam is amazing - you shouldn’t be frightened by the fact it is C++, even more because most Arduino projects are quite simple, to the point.
      If you are asking about “Functional Programming” in Arduino, there might be a few experimental language projects… it is not mainstream.
      If you are looking to program in high-level languages (like Python or JavaScript), there are a few options - but maybe the best thing is to use an ESP32 board (instead of the typical Arduino board).

      I am curious: why? Did something happened with the USB of your Arduino Nano? (if so, it might be simples just buying another Arduino Nano and just plug it on the socked of the Robot’s board. Or are you asking about something fancier, like, wireless upload?
