The lyricist, Cynthia Weil, had recently passed away, so RIP to her. She and her husband, Barry Mann, wrote this. They also wrote "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" for The Righteous Brothers. I always thought it was interesting that this song exudes Black Pride but it's written by a White couple.
She's was born and raised in Gary,Indiana. She was born June 2,( or 3rd) 1950. You can Google her biography, and music achievements since her days of singing background with Stevie Wonder and her friend/ mentor Minnie Riperton.
This video version does not do justice to how beautiful this song is. It is quite dated and is an older version of Niecy. I was hoping for the version I chose many reactors to do for this song. It is actually the debut to the song. Update: apparently some power that be had the video snatched from UA-cam because they knew how powerful it was and they didn't want anyone else to see it. I would encourage you two to research and view/listen to that version or the original version of that song. THAT is the one I grew up listening to in the 1980s as an African-American kid in school and the major inspiration it brought to me and my classmates. Thank you.
You have some amazing songs and reactions. If you haven’t done Chris Stapleton with Justin Timberlake mashup and Chris Stapleton “Tennessee Whiskey”, they are a must react. Keep up the great work
