Watching the two of you and loving this beautiful song 🎵 by Oleta Adams is astounding. I dont want to say this here, but honestly, you two as black people can relate clearly to this song, that the two of you can critic and judge the level and degree and impact this song for your generation and maybe personally.
I must admit, i am a Filipino, and we love songs like this that made it so famous anytime of the year, until now. And honestly, this song came out in the 80s, which is my era of very good black R&B music, jazz, and love songs.
Honestly, you can't hear this type of song nowadays. Comparing the music today and those days in the 80s is incomparable. It is so powerful that it can speak of a love relationship that no matter how far that person importance and significance, you need to get there. And that is about this song for me .
Try to listen to other black woman artists who made a hit single song that shook the air waves of every country in the world

    2. Oletta Adams - Get here if you can

This is on my list of top 100 songs ever made and sung. Nothing sad about this song; to me it is a song of hope sung on another level. Her depth and range is extra ordinary and very very few can sing in her range; unique talent. One of my favorite songs that never gets old; just beautiful as beauitful can get.

This is still a beautiful song. I grew up listing to this song also and for some reason it draws me back to a time when life was simple and the emotion of craving for someone to return home on a journey away. No matter that one goes through, just to come and get here.

The song "Get Here" is a pop ballad written by American singer and songwriter Brenda Russell. The title track of her fourth studio album, Get Here (1988). it became a moderate hit on the Billboard R&B chart on the heels of the album's massive first hit, "Piano in the Dark".
Oleta Adams covered and released the song in 1990, reaching the top five in both the US and the UK with her version. Adams' version of "Get Here", co-produced by Roland Orzabal from the band Tears for Fears (for whom she had performed the female vocals on the hit single "Woman in Chains" a year earlier), became her signature song.
Brenda Russell had written the song while staying at a penthouse in Stockholm, Sweden: the tune came to her as she viewed some hot air balloons floating over the city, a sight Russell recalls set her "really tripping on how many ways you can get to a person" (the eventual song's lyrics include the line: "You can make it in a big balloon but you'd better make it soon").
It was while Adams was visiting Stockholm, Sweden that she heard Russell's song playing in a record store and was sufficiently impressed with the song to record it for her album Circle of One (1990).
World events at this time gave the song a resonance as an anthem for the US troops in the Gulf War-underscored by the lyrics "You can reach me by caravan / Cross the desert like an Arab man"-which sent Adams's single into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1991.

Oleta Adams released "Get Here" in 1990. Lord when I tell you, I had to get to the hospital because my newborn daughter was born in a bad way. I had no transportation and found a hospital transport bus. My wife was crying and I was on high alert and concerned. I had a radio and GET HERE came on. (Sniff) Oh, my Lord....It felt like my little girl was talking to me. Well, my daughter "Ebony" passed away in about 2 months from kidney failure. (Whew)
