I love that sound at the 5:30 mark…where you take the low mid out. I love the full presence of it with the that little bit of twang stilll in it. Reminds me of a Flea type tone. Nice to hear the dead/old string sound, but would love to hear how that eq sounds on some new strings
New strings would make so much difference, particularly with the slap tone, which is my favorite part of any bass pickup, bass electronics, bass amp or bass demo.
Great sound and playing. I’m not much of a bass player but thinking of switching from guitar. But it seems to me like you must have great technique because I don’t hear all that nasty string noise and rumble/buzz I hear on so many other videos. Thanks for sharing, seems like a great bass, especially after the mods!
Have you got to try some John east preamps to compare to the audere pres? I really like that the John east have a passive bypass with a passive tone control that's what's kept me from the audere up to this point.
Even with those dead strings that thing is a monster! That preamp was right at the edge of overdriving your input. That’s a great combination of pickups and preamp though. The b string was articulate, even near the nut. What’s up with everywhere you go lately somebody is trying to step on your groove?? He he he… I love it when you start laughing! It’s infectious, in a Good way….
nice bro thx for posting i watch all your vids im like you im always trying to get the best tone and playability without breaking the bank lol sounds great!!!
Is this DI or are you micing an amp? Sounds good. I have this exact same bass and am looking to mod it. I’m a guitar player and producer and just needed to add some instruments to the studio. Thanks for the vid. I’m about a year late, but thanks all the same.
Thank you for uploading. Are you the type of player that likes a little harmonic distortion sound from driven tubes I’m hearing distortion in the recording
Hey @bullythekid Im not a beginner, I’m an intermediate to advanced bass player, I am considering a Sterling 5 string. I don’t like to spend a lot of money. Would you say the Sterling 5 string is a good choice? Is SUB series good for intermediate/advanced? I only hear about basses good for beginners…
Im looking for a bass that has a humbucker for a deeper darker tone. I already have a jazz and PJ bass so I am looking for something that has a darker tone for hard rock. yet provides some versatility
I have this same bass and recently bought an AG 5M for it. 18 mm bridges seem pretty rare. I am cool with 19 mm spacing, but do you feel like the B&G strings get TOO Close to the edge of the fingerboard? Have you ever had any problems with it?
@@BullyThaKidd Thanks. I did find an 18mm that looks decent, it's just going to take a few weeks to arrive (Amazon) . I think I'll probably go with that to be on the safe side. I actually don't mind the close spacing of the stock bridge, but I want to upgrade that pickup :-). FWIW-I played my Sterling StingRay5 on my salsa gig tonight and it played GREAT! Can't wait to hear it with the Aguilar. Preamp will be be down the road bit.
1st of all maybe to each his own or common sense says if your going through the preamp and a new upgraded pup how are gonna really hear the quality of your new up grades with dead strings?Never again bro do a up grade video with dead strings lol just saying but just a little constructive critisism thats all.
Heck of a bassist. Fantastic job man!

Sounds excellent! I have a SUB 4 string laying around that doesn’t get much love these days, I am SO doing this.
LMAO the funk face at 10:45! Great vid

I love my sterling sub 5. Michael Jackson and Scorpions plays smooth af on mine
LETS GOOOOOOO
Love your bass playing Billy, it's been a while since I've watched, nice to hear and see you again
Just sold my 5 string to get the 4 string version. ALMOST got the Aguilar pick up but went with Bartolini instead.
Who makes the replacement bridge?
Its very noticeable that your strings are gone but over all she sounds very good and beefy.

Hey Bully will I need to change the bridge if im looking to replace the stock pickup with the Aguilar DCB’s?
yep it will be off center.
Awesome video! When changing the bridge do you have to change the nut as well?
No need
@@BullyThaKidd Thanks!

Yeah not the base model though. Look in the 500 to 800 price range for intermediate level gear...
Do you have any suggestions?

I got 19mm and I slip off rarely... you should be good as long as you bend to the center of the fretboard
