The only part I don't get is the whole "dancing with my back against the wall"... The rest of the lyrics can make sense, but these, I can't figure what they could mean metaphorically...
The lyrics of this song are something else. ”Unless you feed the fire deep inside, a golden heart won’t keep you warm at night”. Words of wisdom. Being a genuinely good person is important, but you’re going to need something to be passionate about, or you’ll end up feeling like missing something. Top-3 Sonata Arctica album without a doubt.

I gave it a couple of listens and it grew on me, just like their last 4 albums. Now I cannot stop humming the song. As for the people commenting how their music has taken a turn for the worse, I kind of get them. Sonata has always put out emotional music with which you could connect immediately, and it's kind of hurtful to some that may not feel that connection anymore. But I also think that you cannot simply ''demand'' that they make the same kind of power metal-y speedy songs. That is not how music or art in general works, it comes in a form that the creator feels is right. Take "Rise a night" for example form the last album. Apart from being one of my least favourite songs they've ever put out, I also think it goes to show that you cannot force out a style out of someone. It just sounds weird to me and stands out from the rest on that album. Anyway, I will be giving the album a couple of listens and would recommend everyone to at least give it a chance. It takes a lot of work to make music, so at least pay respect to the band you love, or once loved, by listening from the beginning to the end.

Yeah but the mixing is still a mess... the only instrument that is audible in the sub region is the kickdrum, and some stray waves from the bass, which makes it almost painful to listen to with a woofer... They really need to find new studio staff... Pretty sure in the right hands, this would sound -much- better...
@@tyreekmurillo4524 I work with studio gear a lot... when you hear that a band's 10 year old material sounds better then the current one, it's time to get new studio crew...
I've been waiting for the release of a new album. I love all the lyrics and songs written by Tony. For me sonata is like a god. I want you to come to Japan.
Did not believe it... but damn... I'm gonna roll this through Cubase for good quality speed increase lol Now if only the drums actually did something other then 1-2-1-2 through 90% of the song, it'd be great...
You really need to bring that chair to the stage. This would be great intro, rest of the band playing while Tony walks from the dark and sits on that chair. Then after this song you would play San Sebastian or Black Sheep. That would be amazing transition.
"When you show to a commitment and you make clear that you don´t want to be there. " That´s the easiest way to explain what I think about this song and album. BAAAAAAD ALBUM.
Guys i swear, if you listen to this song at 1.25 speed, the song goes from alright to BEAST! At normal speed just feels like new, slow and kinda boring. At 1.25 it feels like old sonata! Try it i promise you wont regret!
@@matthewsoden8978 Click on the little gear wheel on the bottom right corner of the video when you move your mouse over there. Click it, then you'll see the setting Playback Rate. Select that and put it to 1.25 Speed. Hope that helps! :)
In the end what really differs new sonata from old, is the metronome speed. Feels like their normal songs go around at 60bpm. If they would speed to about 80 - 100bpm the band just goes back to how they used to play. Im impressed how this songs feels different at 1.25. Reminds me of Unia, or Days of Grays
Too many people complain about how this doesn't sound like their old stuff and that somehow makes it bad. Stop crying about them doing what they want to instead of conforming to your needs and just go listen to their old stuff. It's not like you aren't allowed to listen to their old music anymore. And nobody complained when they made Tallulah, Acoustic Mary-Lou, Broken, Draw Me, My Selene, Shamandalie, Under Your Tree, ect. Those were all slower than what they normally did back then. They've adjusted to what they like doing better, and for what it is they do an amazing job at it.
It's not bad because it doesn't sound like their old stuff, it's bad because its bad. Seriously though, I have stuck with this band over the years because every album at least had mostly decent songs that still had a hint of a metal sound in them. So far this album has lost the last hint of metal that was left in this band and I think it will be the first SA album I just skip. I will definitely be purchasing the new Insomnium with the bonus of Jani being on it.
Because there's a big difference between releasing a metal ballad on an album & releasing a full album of the same sounding mid paced material? Maybe that.
In a few days Sonata will be playing in my city. I wish they play at least 5 songs of power metal era. SA was my favorite band for almost 10 years and Ecliptica was the first album I bought.
At first I was a bit disappointed, seeing how the previous single "A Little Less Understanding" was so slow already, but in the last third of this song, there they were again: the shivers down my spine. This really sounds like some good old Unia/Days of Grays vibe. Absolutely love it.
I will always love Tony’s voice. Ecliptica is never coming back, but I’m still a huge fan and I’m just happy they’re still making music after 20 years.
This whole album is sooooo refreshing!!! I think that Tony finally got the formula down for the slower sonata albums. It's just so EASY to listen to and chill while working, and I keep and keep coming back to this album again and again!!! Talviyö is AMAZING! If anything I wish Tony's sweet voice was mixed a bit louder! that's it!
I've always loved this band. So much talent and creativity. Yeah it can be weird and different and isn't pure power metal anymore but I'm still pumped for every release 🤘.
Question is if they ever were power metal. That style is characteristic with bombastic big bangs, boosted guitar melodies going up and down the scale, while sonata was always more straightforward focusing on speedy loops and more clean guitars. Thus they are usually refered as speed metal. Well this song has similar vibe as old work but slow. Sort of same fate as Nightwish had, also started fast and slowed down big time.
@@kingie66 Wha.. what? Um. Yeah. They adopted a Stratovarius sound & supported them on tour throughout the beginning of their years. Not to mention people referring to them as Sonatavarius. How can you listen to the first 5 albums (with Jani) & question their position in power metal? Possibly the dumbest question I've seen asked all year. And the year was nearly over! Just in time! Congratulations!
Dale Sonata 💞
@@NeeceLoneWolf He isn't expecting anyone to cater to his needs, he just says he has a right to dislike this new sound. He likes the old Sonata Arctica better than the new one, and it's absolutely legitimate to tell that to the band.
Even though it sounds nothing like the old Sonata that many people miss (including myself), I personally like and welcome this Rock or Rock-like style change, it even reminds me to the pre-Ecliptica days (when SA was called Tricky Means), and it doesn't sound "weak" like people say, it's simply another style, they still have the energy. Also that little riff from 2:05 to 2:22 kinda surprised me, I mean, it's very simplistic, but doesn't sound like anything from Sonata that I've heard before.
Haha, i remember when they play I Want Out, Kai Hansen commented that they play too damned fast. But, this video in normal speed, my opinion is to damned slow, 1,25x is better 😄
The song have to be at that Speed... The original version is like, a little bit boring, but with that little aceleration, it turns like a Old School Sonata Song
Well, I won`t say bad of the band. It is a new style , made for a select few new generation of fans. For the oldests connoisseurs it just remained us to embrace the left masterpieces from 1999 to 2012 (Stones Grow Her name still has like eight powerful songs) and just forget this other Sonata Arctica. They still please many. So then they continue their work and we continue our lives.
The more i replay it, the more i appreciate it! I hope as a lot of SA fans there will be more fast paced songs, thing that i doubt since their past few albums but honestly i progressively dig this one more and more
this is called "acquired taste". If you force yourself to listen something, in the end you will be able to like it. This is one of the most beautiful things in music.
@MichaelDustterthat's a YOU issue isn't it. If YOU can't get over it whose problem is that yours or theirs?? If YOU can't get over it, why is that EVERYONE'S problem but yours?? Go listen to something manchild.
"Cold"
Standing with my back against the wall
Standing with back against the wall... it's cold
Cold...
Day, night, fades to dawn
Now the fire breathing dragon
I have nursed by my side is turning cold
One night, blinding light
Felt the necklace with a golden heart get cold
Against the wall, against the wall, it's cold
Why can't this make me warm on winter's nights
Maybe your heart has stone cold gold inside
Dancing with my back against the wall
Dancing with my back against the wall
And again
Why can't you make me warm on winter's nights
Maybe your heart has stone cold gold inside
Unless you feel the fire deep inside
A golden heart won't keep you warm at night
But when the memory has a face no more
And the days are getting longer
When all the words unspoken die away
Believe the wisdom written on the walls
Maybe the road ahead is golden
The white thunderbird will drive away, fly away, fly away
Why can't you make me warm on winter's nights
Maybe your heart has stone cold gold inside
Unless you feed the fire deep inside
A golden heart won't keep you warm at night
Maybe your heart has stone cold gold inside

If you haven't then you should check them out,if you have then you might understand why it's dump to trash out a band because they don't sound like what they were 20 years ago.
Sonata Arctica will always be Sonata Arctica, they are not just a power metal band they're probably the greatest to ever excist, people should be happy they still togither making music.
No band does the same thing always, and the few that do, they're really boring.
Sounds good guys!!!
I just realized something very weird: I can actually hear the bass
Renan Colombini that’s the one thing i like about their newer stuff
Yeah but the mixing is still a mess... the only instrument that is audible in the sub region is the kickdrum, and some stray waves from the bass, which makes it almost painful to listen to with a woofer... They really need to find new studio staff... Pretty sure in the right hands, this would sound -much- better...
BizarroMD wow someone’s picky
@@tyreekmurillo4524 I work with studio gear a lot... when you hear that a band's 10 year old material sounds better then the current one, it's time to get new studio crew...
@@BizarroMD it sounds fine on monitor stole earphones.
Maybe your sub is over dominant.
I would love more dynamic range though

Beautiful song, thanks Tony =)
All they ever do its perfectly arranged played and produced they are Kings of music for the people
Nice, can't wait to hear the album! \m/
I've been waiting for the release of a new album. I love all the lyrics and songs written by Tony. For me sonata is like a god. I want you to come to Japan.
Better than the first song for sure. Singles don't really give you any sense of a Sonata album these days.
I don't know why some people says this song isn't that good. In my opinion this is amazing song. Good work
Same here. It get's better and better every time I listen to it ☺️
WOW, 1.25 really makes this song hundred times better!
I actually like it slower. Maybe I'm just getting older. Sonata was never strictly metal but I like their music anyway.
Its true, finally all album will play in 1.25 for speed
It works. Wow.
Did not believe it... but damn... I'm gonna roll this through Cubase for good quality speed increase lol Now if only the drums actually did something other then 1-2-1-2 through 90% of the song, it'd be great...
That actually worked. It's like they took a normal sonata song and slowed it down. Guess they're getting slow in their old age.
You really need to bring that chair to the stage. This would be great intro, rest of the band playing while Tony walks from the dark and sits on that chair. Then after this song you would play San Sebastian or Black Sheep. That would be amazing transition.
Amazing!!!! I love it!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
"When you show to a commitment and you make clear that you don´t want to be there. " That´s the easiest way to explain what I think about this song and album. BAAAAAAD ALBUM.
Stop bitching and stfu. If you don't like the songs, nobody gives two shits about your opinion.
beautiful song
Sonata Arctica show its new album which is why I been Sonata Arctica fan since 1999.
Guys i swear, if you listen to this song at 1.25 speed, the song goes from alright to BEAST!
At normal speed just feels like new, slow and kinda boring. At 1.25 it feels like old sonata!
Try it i promise you wont regret!
Yeah that's the solution bro 😂
This may sound dumb, but how do you speed it up lol?
@@matthewsoden8978 Click on the little gear wheel on the bottom right corner of the video when you move your mouse over there. Click it, then you'll see the setting Playback Rate. Select that and put it to 1.25 Speed. Hope that helps! :)
Definitely!!
Incredible and beautiful music as always
The type of song that you don't like at first and try it again for five times and it stuck in your head now
les magiciens du monde ...toujours sublimes !merci
I Do like your comment Indeed my kind Sr.
Because there's a big difference between releasing a metal ballad on an album & releasing a full album of the same sounding mid paced material? Maybe that.
@@skeletankmcgraw7343 that's your opinion
@@squawk_off Wow, really? I didn't know that..
Glad I'm not the only one getting the Days of Grays vibe!
JAJAJAJA sii
Dhahahaha 1.25 master piece
Jani and Sonata putting out new tracks on the same day!? I’m happy!
What did jani post?
I will always love Tony’s voice. Ecliptica is never coming back, but I’m still a huge fan and I’m just happy they’re still making music after 20 years.
same like me always a fan and never stop loving them!
Try listening to this at 1.75 or 1.50 speed. Much closer to the old stuff
Undercoverfire well it’s a different path they have taken. I kinda like it. It’s tony his voice and the story he tells with every song they got.
Same dude
This whole album is sooooo refreshing!!! I think that Tony finally got the formula down for the slower sonata albums. It's just so EASY to listen to and chill while working, and I keep and keep coming back to this album again and again!!! Talviyö is AMAZING! If anything I wish Tony's sweet voice was mixed a bit louder! that's it!
I definitely sppreciate more complex masterpieces like Unia, but Talviyo absolutely stole my heart
@@kingie66 you're probably right haha. But high vocals, trade off guitar and keyboard solo's has always felt power metal enough for me lol.
@@kingie66 watch the band trailers Tony said they're not power metal
yet they have been doing the same song/album over and over again for the last couple of years now, not so much creativity huh, more like wasted talent
That meaty guitar, that bass, those keys...all that Tony! Sonata are back!
I do not want to sound bad, but I don't think I like how this band is progressing...
This has been 10 years of shit, pal. Progressing is not the right word haha
Truly amazing song. Beautiful melody and lyrics that moves me deep.
I agree. All the whiners can suck my balls.
Play 1.25
Omg! Just loving it!! ❤️
I f*** love the C-Part of this song! So damn great!
Greetz from germany! :)))
Super nářez bezva nádherný Bomba 💣 fajn muzic ok 💥 🌟 super 👌.
Awesome! Luv this band!!🔥🤘🏻🔥
Dale Sonata 💞
The song is very good and the band begins to be more professional to capture new generations of followers.
I really miss the power in the latest 2-3 albums. Hope there will be far more fast and powerful songs!
Forget this...
So am I
Forget you lot who need to grow up and stop expecting people to cater to your needs
Yes, old, good Sonata Arctica ❤️
@@NeeceLoneWolf He isn't expecting anyone to cater to his needs, he just says he has a right to dislike this new sound. He likes the old Sonata Arctica better than the new one, and it's absolutely legitimate to tell that to the band.
Even though it sounds nothing like the old Sonata that many people miss (including myself), I personally like and welcome this Rock or Rock-like style change, it even reminds me to the pre-Ecliptica days (when SA was called Tricky Means), and it doesn't sound "weak" like people say, it's simply another style, they still have the energy.
Also that little riff from 2:05 to 2:22 kinda surprised me, I mean, it's very simplistic, but doesn't sound like anything from Sonata that I've heard before.
this is amazing !!! Ok it's different from old sonata Arctica , but what's the problem ? everything
in our lives changes, and S.A. too
Put tempo to 1,25x because this comes so much better when it's a bit faster! (Sadly the quality is so bad with 1,25x)
Thanks for the 1.25x suggestion, it made it around 50% much better. I think this is what they need, more speed I guess?
Haha, i remember when they play I Want Out, Kai Hansen commented that they play too damned fast.
But, this video in normal speed, my opinion is to damned slow, 1,25x is better 😄
Man... The song just gets way better. What a shame
The song have to be at that Speed... The original version is like, a little bit boring, but with that little aceleration, it turns like a Old School Sonata Song
Sonata is back oh yeah
Missing you Sonata Arctica... :(
Well, I won`t say bad of the band.
Exactly ! But some just get stuck to their initial thought and don't go further, it's a pity
...
@MichaelDustterthat's a YOU issue isn't it. If YOU can't get over it whose problem is that yours or theirs??
If YOU can't get over it, why is that EVERYONE'S problem but yours??
Go listen to something manchild.
It's a beautiful low tempo song, Kakko...amazing as always, and that piano...shit, it's perfect with the melody.
love this song so much!
It’s always a blast song with a beautiful melody 🤩👍🏴☠️
Oooo mann....the guitar....i fall in love
¡Come on!
Without Jani
Sonata Arctica doesn't exist.
Tony is one of the best singers in metal scene technically.. Not very wide scale but he really knows how to use his voice
