My 1970 1600 got a crack in the channels that feed the oil cooler. I found a mechanic who stitch welded it, but that failed after 30kms. I ended up talking to an old bloke who was a former VW mechanic. He found the leak and then showed me a trick. He took a short length of regular copper domestic hot water pipe and tapped it down into the channel. It never leaked again.
congrats on an exciting trip ! lucky for that workshop huh ! good work taking out ur engine n fixing it ! what the heck is this cat ear tattoo haha fair enough!!
Karstan and Maxine, congratulations on your great videos. I like your jalopy and particularly the fact that you travel on some isolated desert tracks in it. I get a bit sick of watching guys whose attitude seems to be that it's not possible to do these trips unless you have a top-of-the-range 4x4 kitted out with every gadget known to man. I own a 40-year-old Citroen CX diesel, and I want to do some of these trips in it (once I give it a thorough overhaul). I can raise it up hydraulically of course, which I think is more important than having four-wheel-drive (its front-wheel-drive which may be an advantage in sand). What I am interested in is if you think you would give a track like the Simpson desert (west to east) a crack in your kombi? I would only attempt such a track if I could tag along with a 4x4 or two (because you may get stuck properly out there). I communicated with an English guy who used to drive a WWI delivery truck from Cape Town to London and back (6 week trip one way), before there were any good roads. And he told me he drove a Peugeot 504 down the Canning Stock Route decades ago, and I was really impressed. The 504 also has high clearance and long suspension travel and was a great rally car, like the Citroen CX. I would be very interested in your opinion? Have you thought about such a trip in your machine?
Hey guys, did you do the Bloomfield track? My boss at the bus company had an old Commodore with a Country Pack suspension that I'd drive down to Cairns via the Bloomfield track in the Dry Season. It's even better nowadays. I've heard they've done a lot of work on it to make it easier for locals to get South.
A replay of the block just came on normal tv decided to google u to c what u were up to n seen u had a UA-cam channel this is sick what a life your living! Good on ya nice to c u both still happy n healthy!
Do a video on the kombi bloke. I am dying to know if those tyres and rims are even legal here haha. Is it lifted? how do you fit your whole life in there? tools fishing gear food clothes parts . its gotta be a mission. I used to own a 76 1800. Change your oil often bruh.
the fact a wild horse would walk up and eat right out of your hand speaks a lot to the kind and gentle nature you guys posses!!!!

Karstan you can also make gaskets from aluminium cans, that soft material as well.
What a trip, and Karstan, the only thing missing was you cocking your leg after the tatt lol🤣🤣🤣
