Great review - I definitely have some stuff to say on the points you made, and it'll be fun to hear what it has in common with LOTR seeing as I haven't read it.
The first book is definitely a bit different from the rest of the series. Matt is terribly annoying in the first two books, but gets very interesting in later books. The world building is the strongest part of the series, but the character work is just lacking for me. This was one of my absolute favorite fantasy series when I was younger, but Sush and I tried a reread of it as adults and got too frustrated with it to finish - we DNF'd the series at Book 11 last year. It's got some really die-hard fans out there though, so it definitely works super well for a ton of people!
Yeah it is one of those series that I have heard so much about, positive and negative so wanted to try for myself. Definitely continuing and have heard that the second book is better than the first so 🤞🏻
I started this series way back in 1990 and it’s a hard one to go with. The first 6 books are amazing but after that it felt that Jordan started to just get overwhelmed by the monster he created and started to lose control. Starting in the early 2000’s when we learn that he was not well and was looking for a writer to complete the series and Michael Sanderson was picked it got ever weirder. I personally been a fan of Jordan since the 70’s and the change in writer was difficult for me. I struggled with the last books. Yes unfortunately Robert Jordan did not get to complete the series as he sadly passed away in 2007. I prefer to pretend that the awful Amazon series doesn’t exist at all, it’s horrible. I do hope you will enjoy this series, I am a huge fan but I do understand that it’s not to the taste of everyone
I think there was a lot of promise in this book so if it builds from here which I have heard it does I can see myself thoroughly enjoying it. I haven't watched the series, I may one day but have not heard many people talk positively about it so may not bother.
I think book 1 is quite generic (LOTR tribute) and quite different to the next four or five books. Overall the series is epic, but has its weaker books (book 9,10,1 for me) .
@@baskinthestory i recently did a re-read, the first time i read eye of the world was in 1992 as a teenager. To be honest its a different experience as a middle aged adult. I still think books 2-7 and books 11-14 are really good however with book 4 being my favourite.

Excellent, I'm looking forward to chatting about it. Should be a fun discussion

I enjoyed this book when I read it years ago. Interested to see how the journey will go for you guys
It should be an interesting journey, I have heard book 2 is a big improvement 🤞
