Walking Tour in Camogli Italy 4K ASMR Autumn 2022
Camogli is a colourfully fishing village and tourist resort located on the west side of the peninsula of Portofino, on the Golfo Paradiso in the Riviera di Levante, in the Metropolitan City of Genoa, Liguria, northern Italy. As of 30 April 2017 its population was of 5,332. Camogli is one of the largest areas of the Parco Naturale Regionale di Portofino, and a part of the Portofino Marine Protected Area.
    -- History --
The name of the town is of ancient, though of disputed origin.
One story suggests it comes from the shortened Casa de Moglie. When the ship captains sailed, they put their wives (mogli) in a sort of home for all of them (casa), and the town was well known for this.
In the late Middle Ages, Camogli was a considerable seaport. In its heyday, its fleet consisted of hundreds of Tall Ships, and it was called the "city of a thousand white sails". In 1798 the city hosted a large contingent of Napoleon's fleet, which was then beaten in the Egyptian waters of the Nile by Admiral Nelson. The prestigious naval college "Cristoforo Colombo" was founded in Camogli in 1874, named after the Genoese navigator Christopher Columbus.
In 1880, the former fishing village had, in a population of 12,000, 500 registered as ship captains. Camogli now relies mainly on tourism and is known for its colorful houses that line the beach. The house colors once helped the fishermen of Camogli find the way back to their port.
-- How to get to Camogli --
    Reaching Camogli is very simple.
By car it can be reached by taking the A12 Genova - Livorno (exit: Recco) or the state road 1 Aurelia.
To reach Camogli by train, the reference station is Camogli-San Fruttuoso, on the Genoa-La Spezia railway line: it is an important route with fairly frequent trains.

Camogli is more than one of the most beautiful fishermen villages of the Italian Riviera with a glorious past of sailors, captains and explorers, Camogli is also one of the three municipalities of the Portofino peninsula: a little more than 2,000 ft high Mount that is a Natural Park with a marittime protected area and more than 50 miles (80 km) of trails for hicking enthusiasts. Camogli is also the secluded cove of san Fruttuoso, with crystal clear water and a X Century Benedictine abbey, the rock of Punta Chiappa (a paradise for snorkeling and scuba diving) and much more.

I know it very well. I'm from Turin, I discovered Camogli more than fifty years ago and I bought a small house with an amazing view to live there after retirement. It's a true gem. I love hicking on the Mount of Portofino, snorkeling in the deep, blue sea of the Marittime Protected Area and having a glass of wine and a "slerfa de fugassa" (slice of focaccia) at the small harbor of Camogli. @@gemwalktourist
