I ride a 2019 through the foothills of North Georgia, USA and I absolutely love it. Mine is the 111, but looking at the stage 3 kit in 2021. Safe Ridin'!
Nice bike but that's a lot of money. It may be 'better' than the Harley as are probably the Japanese cruisers but I'd rather own a Harley. Its the Road King for me. Well done sorting your audio out.
Congrats on your new mic, terrific improvement. Now can you do a comparo btwn the R18 and another popular cruiser? I’m not a cruiser guy but entranced by the new R. Current ride is an rt. R18 will be a 2nd bike.
A very pristine review of an Indian bike favorite! The mic and audio is much, much better and does finally compare to the visual aspects. A complete and visual review of the bike made with honesty and knowledge. Being on the taller side, I do find the Indian on a longer wheelbase to be roomy and comfortable to ride with ease and pleasure. The Indian appears as one badass bike with a wicked disposition for riding all day long! Thanks for such a review as to be far superior to like ones. Bless you. RideWithPeace.
You guys are one of the best reviewers around, in market for new bagger and after this review definitely adding this to the shopping list, thanks for the great informative content
Great Review as always! I like your reviews because it is so authentic and it's clear, that you have a lot of experience in riding bikes. Just subscribed your channel. ...And I am very happy, that you like the Springfield. I own one since 2016, when the Springfield was launched. Just a great bike, and would like to have the extra power of the 116. Regards from Germany
Hi Guys, First of all: great success with the new microphone system. Thank you for investing so much money and effort on our behalf. To the bike: It is a great bike, no doubt about it. But some details, like this frame of cast aluminium was the main reason, why i decided against the indian and for the road king instead. Did you adjust the rear suspension with an air pump? If not, this perhaps can be the reason for the "firmer" ride.
Thanks for an excellent review of a motorcycle I (now) strongly consider. Very informative, with many points others miss. (dimensions, ergonomics, weight, rake and trail, etc.) - I of course hammered both thumbs up and the subscribe button, and I look forward to seeing more material from you.
Being from Texas, I cringe every time I see the bushes on the left coming that close, mainly because when I saw that in my view I was either actively in the process of crashing or damn near it and scaring the crap out of myself! I'm looking at trading my Scout Bobber Icon in next week on either a Super Chief or a Springfield, and your video helped out with my decision!
I'd like to think that anything that's not a Harley is always a better bike than Harleys. But that doesn't translate to a better riding experience (or a better experience in owning a motorcycle), as that'd largely depend on the type of rider you consider yourself to be. I love your reviews! Keep it up!
Hey Old Man! Nice work on this piece. The new mic sounds great. This bike looks good. Somehow it looks longer than the Dark Horse I tried. And I rode a camm'd 111, not the 116. I bet the 116 ran well. So the only thing I didn't hear you speak much of was the suspension, except to say that "it wasn't a problem." LOL! Can you provide a bit more detail? I am curious. As for the heritage looks, I can certainly appreciate the styling, but in the end this is not a bike I would own. I would love a Chieftain that had this bike's dimensions and fit! Anyway, very glad you have your Indian connection sorted. Looking forward to more Indian reviews. Cheers!
Thanks buddy! No issues with the suspension; it soaked up all the countryside bumps pretty well. Maybe not quite as compliant as the Heritage Classic Harley Davidson.
S @@MrDarcy-OlMan The Indian has more suspension travel 4 inches of travel and can be adjusted less air softer more air firmer. I was surprised you said that because Harley is a firmer suspension due to less travel the air shock must have been pumped-up on this one you tested. Harley only has 2-3 inches of travel. I could be wrong because the regular Springfield has fox air shocks like my Roadmaster but this is the cheaper Darkhorse version so maybe they use a regular shock.
@@chonasimpson6487 Jumping straight from the Heritage Classic to the Indian, it felt that way. The Harley Road King Special certainly has a worse ride than the two

Great Vlog as always mate. I hate to say it as I’m a HD lover but the Indians do seem pound for pound slightly better made. Could you see yourself ever going to the dark side, excuse the pun, and trading in your Heritage for one? The sound is so much more pro by the way.

@@MrDarcy-OlMan yeah, that thing looks like a ton of fun. Taller, forward leaning riding position, liquid cooled, ride command, brembo brakes, but Ill be hanging on to my Springfield until we're both showing our age haha
Why was the throttle sticking? Get heated grips & seats. Floor boards look more raised on an angle than the Harleys. I'd like a clear removable screen or bathing fairing for winter- getting on a bit, like my creature comforts. Going to keep the Heritage?
I think is was on choke. Yes the boards do look higher. You can get an optional screen. It's very similar to the Heritage so not worth changing it for and losing money
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Hmmm, curious about this. Was it the dealer or Polaris being typical Polaris? I'm betting it was Polaris, but the dealer can be the X factor when gaging a rider's overall satisfaction with a bike.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Copy that. I am very spoiled in that my dealer is also a top-notch outfit. They continue to work on my Victory Vision with unabashed enthusiasm and have never done anything shady. I know that is not always the case with dealers. Polaris can be a real bitch to deal with as well and can sometimes tie the hands of a dealer, but again, the same can be said for almost any manufacturer. Your mileage will vary!
Like the standard Springfield more, just like the look. Lots of good reviews on the Springfield in general. Ever give an opinion on your best riding most comfortable motorcycle. Mine all time is the Victory Vision which is hard to look at I know. Enjoyed the review.
I think I'd be a lot more interested in the Indian bikes if their accessory prices didnt make HD's look like a bargin brand. And I wish that oil cooling unit came stock like it does on the M8. Seems like a very nice cushy cruise happy bike, but I dont fancy they idea of having to pay 310$+Labor for an oil cooling unit for summer, and then 410$ for a front engine guard highway bar. The skirted fender is also way cooler than that chopped one. Bring back the classy fender!
So i heard that in other countries in europe that the turn signals have to be amber. in the states it doesnt matter. for bikes like this, are they amber or red in the rear. LOVE to see an indian on your channel
Great review Please give the weight & price as if in the USA ... did like the way you covered everything including the kickstand . I subscribed & looking forward to more reviews
You get more for your money with Indian. The power is there and the looks and ride are fantastic. Still love my harley but won't be buying a new one at the ridiculous price they want for the cvo road glide lol.
A "mode button", I wonder how many accidents fiddling with one those will be caused, looking down at the display while the traffic ahead has come to halt. I was searching an Indian dealership's listing of used bikes and marvelled at the ultra low mileage bikes with multiple previous owners. Lots of older gents think what fun it would be to have a bike again, only to find the novelty wears off in a few hundred miles.... often less..
Yes that’s certainly possible although like anything, you get used to it and don’t need to look after a while. Same with the Harleys; lots of low mileage bikes out there for the taking
Thanks for the review! I was curious, I know they’re two different bikes, but you seemed to have absolutely loved the Harley Breakout 114 that you reviewed previously, and were a little hesitant on this Springfield on some things. Which bike did you like more? I currently have a deal available locally for the two bikes and have been trying to make a decision on which one I like more. I’ve only been able to test ride each for 15 minutes and curious about long term comfort, and the overall performance. Thanks in advance.
Thanks bro! I'd say the Breakout pips it because I prefer the rake and overall look, but the Indian was surprisingly good. Comfort both about the same except that on junctions you have to lean forward to steer the Indian more. Performance the same. Down to looks really because either is awesome.
Did Indian ever sort out the reports of their engines chattering? Lots of users reported earlier models of the dark horse having a strange noise not unlike marbles spinning around inside a glass jar.
That is a gorgeous bike it really is.great review also, I have a 2020 chieftain darkhorse and as you mentioned the torque these things produce is wicked. Good job, cheers 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🇳🇿
Nice Review. Did you mention how to air up the rear shock? Wondering if its the same under the seat body panel to remove just like my Victory. Wish my air valve was mounted externally since I need to air it up every weekend.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan No Problem. I rarely ever see anybody mention that on the Indian Bikes with the Rear MonoShock. Heck, it never gets mentioned much on Harley reviews either. Or maybe I've got a leaky shock...lol.
ok. Fucking awesome. The engine test sound is something you have to make an staple of your productions. No one does that or they put 3rd party exhaust that arent what the bike sounds on purchase, and that's something that may interest you or deter you from buying.
Just bought this bike in quartz gray, 23 model, holy smokes is it amazing. It was very hard for me to wrap my brain around the fact that it weighs as much as it does(I have a super duke GT for scope). This thing is so easy to ride and just an absolute treasure at 80mph on the freeway. The wife and I were doing a tiger 1200gt pro and I didn’t like the pillion experience with it. My wife is 135 pounds so I was surprised. Indian was super nice to us to ride up a canyon to Deadwood from Sturgis. I didn’t even notice her on the back and slow u turns were a breeze. I was always intimidated by these bigger bikes, I am an off-roader mostly 701 and 1090r which are my bread and butter type things. My buddy I ride BDRs with has a huge Harley and we traded bikes on a ride. My personal biases and preconceived notions were wrong. If you have a woman who wants to ride with you get this class of bike. She is so calm back there, comfy and wants to ride more and more. There doesn’t need to be massive communication on things. Love your videos and have watched a ton. Be cool if you guys ever came over to these parts and experienced what it is like around Sturgis. You guys would love it
Just picked up my quartz gray 23 SDH - couldn't be happier. I did add a wind screen and the rear passenger back rest - it's just so comfortable now - highway, turns, tooling around town - fun bike.
The Harley kick stand is fine. It appears that the bike is going to roll forward and fall over. But when the stand is down all the way, it slips into a notch that makes it impossible to roll forward and fall. It will roll an inch or two, but it won't fall. Other brands cannot say that. I have a Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic and an Indian Chief Vintage. I like them both and each of them has their strengths and weaknesses.
Yes that’s true, but even knowing that it still makes the heart skip when it rolls as you walk away. The Softail stands are genuinely rubbish! I and many people have dropped the bike because of the badly designed stand
@@MrDarcy-OlMan yes, I get that. I would be happier if the stand was longer and went forward more. I had an FXRS and an FLST and I always left the bike is 1st gear. Then I would push it forward until the gears stopped the bike, then I would put the kick stand down. It worked well, but if the stand was right in the first place I could have avoided the extra step.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I think it could even be a better experience for you if you would opt for the extended reach saddle by Indian. I take it this was the standard saddle? Your upper legs actually went up with your knees ending up above the tank. It would be more comfortable and esthetically better looking if you would use the extended saddle I think (it is recommended for folks from 6,3 up). Just curious: how tall are you?
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thanks for that quick reply. The MLD (mile long driveway) shots on a country estate do suit the bike well, almost like being in front of a green screen in a studio. In fact, bloody hell, it’s made a hell of a difference, like you’re in a studio with the audio!
Thanks bro! A few tweaks and we're on pointe!
I ride a 2019 through the foothills of North Georgia, USA and I absolutely love it. Mine is the 111, but looking at the stage 3 kit in 2021. Safe Ridin'!
Sounds idyllic! Awesome
I went with Lloydz 2 stage cams on my 2019 Darkhorse and a Craig B (fuel moto) tune. Dont waste that money, just get a 2021 Chieftain with the 116.
Nice review, brother. I have the standard Springfield and I couldn't be happier.
Thanks buddy! Excellent; lovely bike 💯
Nice bike but that's a lot of money. It may be 'better' than the Harley as are probably the Japanese cruisers but I'd rather own a Harley. Its the Road King for me. Well done sorting your audio out.
Thanks buddy. Understood 👍🏼👍🏼
Also more American that Harley
What you talking about ? No different from Harley price . The HD road king special is about the same price.
Congrats on your new mic, terrific improvement.
Now can you do a comparo btwn the R18 and another popular cruiser? I’m not a cruiser guy but entranced by the new R. Current ride is an rt. R18 will be a 2nd bike.
Thanks buddy! Our old mic was good but couldn’t cope with the constant wind! We’ve got an R 18 booked for a second review! Watch this space 👍🏼👊🏼
Much appreciated, thank you 👍🏼👍🏼
You guys are one of the best reviewers around, in market for new bagger and after this review definitely adding this to the shopping list, thanks for the great informative content
Thanks buddy! Much appreciated 👍🏼👍🏼
nice test ride as usual, hoping we can see soon some Moto Guzzi
Thanks buddy! Yes definitely will
Not a bagger guy but this is a beautiful bike. New mic is great.
Thanks Milo. 💯👍🏼
Beautiful bike! The white and black is gorgeous. Great review!
We appreciate that! Thank you for subscribing!
Hi Guys,
First of all: great success with the new microphone system.
Thanks Michi! Yes I can see your point. No I didn’t adjust anything so that may explain it
The old man looks like a Knight of the realm and speaks like a gentleman not bad for a big full Bruce nz
Thanks Bruce! 👌👍🏼
@@jamescoll130 💪🏻👍🏼💯
Great to hear Moto guzzi pronounced correctly 👍
Yes like Pizza! Nobody says it right 👊🏼
Thanks for an excellent review of a motorcycle I (now) strongly consider. Very informative, with many points others miss. (dimensions, ergonomics, weight, rake and trail, etc.) - I of course hammered both thumbs up and the subscribe button, and I look forward to seeing more material from you.
Thanks very much! Welcome aboard! Check out our other videos too!
Great review. Looking forward to seeing you review the Indian Scout :)
Thanks buddy! Yes it will be soon!
I'd like to think that anything that's not a Harley is always a better bike than Harleys. But that doesn't translate to a better riding experience (or a better experience in owning a motorcycle), as that'd largely depend on the type of rider you consider yourself to be. I love your reviews! Keep it up!
Haha they’re not that bad! Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
The Harley Road King Special certainly has a worse ride than the two
I love the looks of this bike especially the roomy bags. I’m thinking of buying it and using it as a replacement to my pickup truck. I live in the city and parking is a pain! Thank you for this review.
Yes it’s awesome. Ok that’s an interesting pickup alternative 👍🏼👍🏼
oh and I never thought I’d see the day a bike that comes along and dwarves the Ol’ Man 🤯. What a bike .
Yes it was certainly roomy enough for a change’
weird revving at 11:20+ possibly due to rear cylinder deactivation?
Yes maybe. It was on choke so maybe that
Mic is a brilliant addition guys!
Thanks Jet. No more wind noise!
To my eyes, the Springfield Classic with all the chrome and big front mudguard looks so much nicer.
Great Vlog as always mate. I hate to say it as I’m a HD lover but the Indians do seem pound for pound slightly better made. Could you see yourself ever going to the dark side, excuse the pun, and trading in your Heritage for one? The sound is so much more pro by the way.
Thanks bro. It's very similar to the Heritage so not worth swapping for, plus the loss. But it's worth considering if on the market for a big cruiser.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I’m actually looking at possibly getting back on 2 wheels in spring with a swap from my Freewheeler to a Fat Bob. Just need to sort out the right side issues for my prosthetic leg ha.
@@Andy-px1mj ok got ya! 👍🏼👍🏼
You've found a bike that fits lanky lad! As a fellow lanky I know how you feel, pygmies bikes are all cool but getting a machine you fit does help. 🤘🖖
Yes it’s a bigun! 💪🏻
Love the colour and the bike. Like yourself I'm over 6ft so this size bike would suit me just perfectly. Great video as usual guys, thanks.
Thanks buddy. Yes it’s unusual to see white isn’t it!
Nice review and nice Indian. I had a demo on the Dark Horse Chief and was also impressed with it. If the dealer also carries Guzzis as mentioned, any chance you can give a future review on a MGX-21 Flying Fortress? Would be interested to hear a review of it from an independent party. Keep up the good work!
Thanks buddy. Yes we definitely will at some point, We’ve been trying to get the press bikes but they aren’t a very accommodating company
What was with the engine sticking at high revs with the throttle blips? Is this a common thing? Why, and what does it do?
I think it was the choke because it just started.
Those Indian big twin OHV engines are wonderful to look at.
However, as a 2020 motorcycle in all enviroments and situations.... Moto Guzzi MGX21 Flying Fortress all day long.
We are hoping to get on the Moto Guzzi very soon!
Hey! Great review. Glad you enjoyed the bike! James, Motorcycle World-Northampton
Thanks Buddy! Yes fabulous! And the dealership is first class. I emailed a couple of times since and haven’t heard back.
One thing l like is the is it has a gear primary and the secondary is on the opposite side. Alot less work to change the belt.
Yes indeed 👍🏼
I think that Indian would look better in cream rather than white but.what a great quality build this bike is, it looks the dogs nuts!
Yes that would look nice. Yes it’s very good 👍🏼👍🏼
good point about being fit for the taller rider,
Thanks! Yes it’s a rare quality 👍🏼
The closest dealer to me is 100 miles in heavy traffic. If they had more dealers I would own one.
I've owned both Harleys n Indians..n ur spot on that Indians r definately better suited for taller riders..great power n accessories right out of the gate..ride Safe sir!!😀
OK that’s great! Thanks. Yes they are much roomier 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi Guys I really enjoy your videos thank you for your efforts. I have a 2020 Xdiavel (not the regular diavel!!). I love it o think it's a magnificent bike but generally over looked and rarely discussed. I would love to see a non biased review from yourselves if possible. Many thanks
Thanks buddy! Yes that’s something we should do!
HEARD THEY BREAK ALOT AND THE COST TO REPAIR IS OMG
That's my exact bike. I love it so much and now I'm fully set on the Indian line... got my eyes on an FTR 1200 S 👀
Cool! To add to the garage?
@@MrDarcy-OlMan yeah, that thing looks like a ton of fun. Taller, forward leaning riding position, liquid cooled, ride command, brembo brakes, but Ill be hanging on to my Springfield until we're both showing our age haha
Best bike review host ever!
Thanks my friend
Why was the throttle sticking? Get heated grips & seats. Floor boards look more raised on an angle than the Harleys. I'd like a clear removable screen or bathing fairing for winter- getting on a bit, like my creature comforts. Going to keep the Heritage?
I think is was on choke. Yes the boards do look higher. You can get an optional screen. It's very similar to the Heritage so not worth changing it for and losing money
Had a 16 Springfield, fantastic bike, far better than the harley RK classic, my previous bike, badly let down by the dealers, now on BMWs
Thanks bro! Shame about the dealers!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Hmmm, curious about this. Was it the dealer or Polaris being typical Polaris? I'm betting it was Polaris, but the dealer can be the X factor when gaging a rider's overall satisfaction with a bike.
@@dennism1919 the comment from Wayne (above) was referring g to a dealership. The dealership we borrowed this from couldn’t be more helpful
@@dennism1919 yes I hear you. 👍🏼👍🏼
Like the standard Springfield more, just like the look. Lots of good reviews on the Springfield in general. Ever give an opinion on your best riding most comfortable motorcycle. Mine all time is the Victory Vision which is hard to look at I know. Enjoyed the review.
Yes it looks really nice. We will do a best of 2020 in December 👍🏼👍🏼
Agree, the Victorys were great bikes that now have a strong cult following.
Yes agreed. It’s a premium brand for sure.
So i heard that in other countries in europe that the turn signals have to be amber. in the states it doesnt matter. for bikes like this, are they amber or red in the rear. LOVE to see an indian on your channel
They have to be amber front and rear in the UK 👍🏼 Thanks buddy
Great review Please give the weight & price as if in the USA ... did like the way you covered everything including the kickstand . I subscribed & looking forward to more reviews
Thanks David! Welcome aboard!
i love your channel,great reviews,God bless
Thanks Vincenzo! Much appreciated 👍🏼
You get more for your money with Indian. The power is there and the looks and ride are fantastic. Still love my harley but won't be buying a new one at the ridiculous price they want for the cvo road glide lol.
Yes they are ever so good! The CVO’s are so expensive. It’s hard to see the justification
I would definitely change the exhaust if I had one though to me sounds like one of the mini bikes with a Brigs and Stratton motor with the stock pipes
Yes we would too 👍🏼💯
Thanks for the review!
Can't wait to see a review on the scout. Quality video as always.
Definitely in the pipeline! Thanks buddy 👍🏼
Did Indian ever sort out the reports of their engines chattering? Lots of users reported earlier models of the dark horse having a strange noise not unlike marbles spinning around inside a glass jar.
I didn’t notice that so maybe it’s sorted
Indian makes it REALLY Hard to want a Harley
That is a gorgeous bike it really is.great review also, I have a 2020 chieftain darkhorse and as you mentioned the torque these things produce is wicked. Good job, cheers 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🇳🇿
Thanks buddy! Yes awesome bike!💯
Nice-looking bike my problem no real dealer Network they could Bowl in any year also that much money you need a good fairing for long-distance riding
You can get an optional fairing. Only time will tell if they go under.
Nice Review. Did you mention how to air up the rear shock? Wondering if its the same under the seat body panel to remove just like my Victory. Wish my air valve was mounted externally since I need to air it up every weekend.
Thanks buddy. No I didn’t go in to that👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan No Problem. I rarely ever see anybody mention that on the Indian Bikes with the Rear MonoShock. Heck, it never gets mentioned much on Harley reviews either. Or maybe I've got a leaky shock...lol.
That is one truly beautiful machine. Indian scores again...
ok.
Fucking awesome.
The engine test sound is something you have to make an staple of your productions. No one does that or they put 3rd party exhaust that arent what the bike sounds on purchase, and that's something that may interest you or deter you from buying.
Thanks buddy! Totally get you. What a bike!
Fantastic review, this is on my list of test rides Thank you
Thanks bro. Fingers crossed for you 👌🏼
I love my 2019 Indian Chieftain! LOW MAINTENANCE too!
That’s great! 💯👍🏼
You guys would love it
@@gilvietor1918 awesome, great to hear 👍🏼
Just picked up my quartz gray 23 SDH - couldn't be happier. I did add a wind screen and the rear passenger back rest - it's just so comfortable now - highway, turns, tooling around town - fun bike.
Awesome, enjoy 😉
That is my favorite Indian, but I would have to ad a quick detach windscreen.
Yes it’s pretty cool isn’t it!
Beautiful bike and a great review thanks.
Thank you 👍🏼👍🏼
Stunning bike, sounds like it may need a little adjustment in the fuel injection response.
Absolutely. Yes could be that 👍🏼
I'd add an extended reach seat, passenger backrest and a windshield. I'd prefer a gloss color too, but it's a dark horse.
Yes that would be good!
You say it doesn’t roll yet admitt it does an inch or two which is exactly what the man is saying. Notch Notch go away
Crazy engine! Did it feel too heavy compared to your Herritage Classic? It would be nice to see a Moto Guzzi reviewed by you two :)
Yes awesome. No it feels about the same
Finally a bike that fits you! 😊
Yes at last!
@@doordevloer9105 Thanks and yes that's a great idea. I'm 6'3"
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thanks for that quick reply. It was a great review by the way, and I appreciate the approach to bikes from the "tall rider" perspective being 6,3 myself (so I signed up to the channel). I so agree with the importance of a long wheel base, besides handling also for reasons of appearance. (I ride a BMW F 850 GS: taller in that regard then most adventure bikes, including that squat BMW 1250 GS).
@@doordevloer9105 Thank you! Tall people are under represented by manufacturers and we want to highlight it
I looked at this scoot vs the road king special. It was nice but the authentic soft that dash and headlight bucket didn’t agree with me. It looks minimally futuristic not motorcycle-ish enough if that made sense.
OK I see what you mean. 👍🏼👍🏼
